- Chapter 1: Officer Robson
The memories of his recent campaigns suddenly replayed in Robson’s mind. He wasn’t sure why, but reflecting on those past battles, he would inexplicably fall deep into thought.
But it was just thinking. As for what he’d actually concluded, it seemed to be nothing at all.
Beyond such musings, the greatest changes brought by the Golden Seventh Tier were to his physical body and his Life Seed.
The physical changes were self-evident. Nourished by a ceaseless flow of energy from his Life Seed, Robson was now truly made of steel and iron.
No wonder Golden-tier warriors could withstand a blast from a Magic Crystal Cannon with their bare bodies.
Of course, what Robson didn’t realize was that even among those at the Golden tier, there were distinctions in power. The main difference lay in the amount of energy their Life Seed could unleash.
Robson’s current physique was clearly different from that of an ordinary Golden Seventh Tier. While he couldn’t compare to an eighth-tier, his foundation was, relatively speaking, much more solid.
The second change, naturally, was the amount of Battle Aura he could command.
Generally, after reaching the Golden tier, one’s entire body becomes a storage point for Battle Aura. Theoretically, the Life Seed can release a ceaseless supply of energy.
This was the difference between a Knight and a Mage. No matter how powerful a Mage became, they focused on expanding their Spiritual Sea and increasing their magic reserves. Knights, upon reaching the Golden tier, shifted to generating power from within.
If he could have seen it, he would have discovered a massive, spectral white sapling slowly growing in the air behind him.
Robson examined his palms. ’My family’s legacy is just too shallow.’ The Odogin Family had never produced a Golden-tier expert.
He was currently unable to use many of the techniques available to the Golden tier, such as the one Count Offman had used just before his death.
"DING! A member of the Frankish Militia has successfully slain a Dogman Tribesman. Experience +100. Your Experience +0..."
"DING! A member of the Frankish Militia..."
Robson froze. ’What’s going on? Is this a new feature?’
Robson opened his panel and was stunned to find that he could actually gain experience when his men killed enemies!
’The Golden tier comes with this kind of perk?’ Robson was pleasantly surprised. ’Is this a system upgrade?’
’Unfortunately, the amount of experience is too small to even matter right now.’ He figured that the total gain from an entire war would probably be less than what he, Lord Robson, earned from a single cannon blast.
Still, something was better than nothing. Now that he had reached the Golden Seventh Tier, he needed 10,000 experience points to advance further.
His command limit as Lord Robson had jumped straight to 8,000 men. He could definitely expand the scale of his wars in the future, and when that happened, this trickle of experience would become a considerable sum.
Of course, he could also break through simply by cultivating peacefully for a year, but the current situation would never allow him that luxury.
"This... This defies the principles of Magic!" The soul’s voice sounded astonished.
’Strange,’ Robson thought. ’It’s already a soul, yet it still has emotions.’
It was that familiar voice again. Now, Robson finally had a moment to search for its source.
"Who are you? Where are you?" Robson scanned his surroundings. Having composed himself, he finally had a chance to expand his Spiritual Sea.
His Spiritual Power locked onto a pendant lying on the corpse of a Foxman. The pendant was shaped like a tiny box.
"Hey, friend! No need to worry. I think... I might know a few things about you. Or rather... I used to know a few things."
"Know things about me? What do you mean?" A chill suddenly ran down Robson’s spine. ’What else could there be? It has to be my Mount & Blade system, or... the fact that I transmigrated?’
’Those are my deepest secrets.’
But Robson quickly dismissed the idea. He had been in this world for a long time.
He had left his family’s domain right after transmigrating and hadn’t brought any old friends with him.
Even his drastic change in temperament could be explained away by having faced life and death on the front lines—which was, in fact, the truth.
As for the Mount & Blade system, ordinary people couldn’t see anything different about his soldiers. To them, there were only recruits and veterans.
In their eyes, the process of Robson’s soldiers gaining experience and becoming veterans was simply what happened after any major battle—recruits were tempered into seasoned soldiers.
Furthermore, since Robson had always provided full rations, his soldiers’ physiques were excellent. He always held them to high standards, and this, combined with his reputation for being skilled at training troops, meant that their quality was considered a normal result of his efforts.
The only thing slightly out of the ordinary was the rapid pace of Robson’s own advancement in the Extraordinary ranks. But that wasn’t a major issue; "rapid" was only a relative term.
This world had never been short of true geniuses. Robson only reached the Golden tier at the age of twenty. Compared to some legendary figures, that was already quite slow.
But while ordinary people couldn’t see the subtleties, the soul of the Mage who had just been speaking with Robson had noticed a few oddities.
Although he had lost most of his memories, he still retained some common sense. It wasn’t as if he hadn’t seen similar individuals in his lifetime.
Judging solely by the energy that had just erupted from Robson’s Life Seed, this was absolutely not normal.
By all rights, upon first entering this tier, it was considered a great achievement just to nourish one’s internal organs. One had to be meticulous, using precise guidance techniques to avoid wasting a single shred of energy!
The way Robson had just done it was a complete deluge, washing over his entire body from top to bottom.
Robson walked over and picked up the pendant.
"What are you?" Robson asked with a frown, then immediately felt that was a bit rude.
"I mean, who are you?"
Fortunately, the soul didn’t seem to care.
"I am Falan Dao’an, from O... Hmm, that kingdom has probably been destroyed by now."
"I was a Palace Mage, responsible for managing the royal library. In life, I stood guard at the Abyss of the Giant Dragon, watching over the Magic Matrix of the Human Race." 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Robson frowned. This was a real test for him. Listening to all these terms, he suddenly felt like a complete ignoramus.
The Magic Book Master Kosen had given him contained purely basic knowledge. Almost everything Falan was saying was completely new to him.
’It’s fine if I haven’t heard of it,’ he thought. ’If I don’t understand, I can just pretend I do.’
Robson didn’t know if this soul was really a Palace Mage, but anyone who could preserve their soul after death was definitely a formidable individual.
"Why are you trapped in this little box?" Robson asked with a frown, looking at it with puzzlement.
"Because of magical affinity, understand? This box is one of my relics. I was able to use Magic to make it a vessel for my soul."
’Another area I know nothing about.’ Robson decided he would have to find Master Kosen later to confirm all this.
"Sir, perhaps now isn’t the time to discuss this. I believe I need some help..." Falan said, a hint of distress in his voice.
"What kind of help?" Robson asked.
"Some Magic Energy. Those stones over there, do you see them?"
Robson nodded. ’This supposed Human Mage must be talking about the Magic Crystal Stones.’
Robson walked over to the Magic Crystal Stones and held up the pendant.
"You mean like this?"
"Yes, yes! That’s it! Just place me on top of one."
Robson looked at the pendant. He still had no idea what this thing was.
"But why should I help you?" Robson asked.
He had no way of knowing if this thing was good or evil, nor did he understand its loyalties. He certainly wasn’t going to rush in to help.
