But she said nothing. With a nod, she shot up the iron chains toward the peak like a bolt of lightning.

Each displaying their unique abilities, the two arrived at the summit.

Zheng Xiu pursed his lips and surveyed his surroundings.

The platform was like a small courtyard. It held a simple wooden house with a stove out front. A pot sat on the stove, unwashed.

Seeing the young man staring at the unwashed pot, Feng Bei silently carried it into the house. Only then did he avert his strange gaze.

The flatness of the summit didn’t look natural. When Zheng Xiu couldn’t resist asking Feng Bei about it, she revealed the truth.

The thrill of discovering a new area on the map was palpable.

In his arms, Xiaofeng squirmed restlessly. It raised its head and looked around warily.

Although Xiaofeng the Orange Cat was a defective product, it had consumed a round of Soul Cores. Its fur hadn’t turned black, yet it still possessed a certain degree of Ability for Spirit Communication.

Its ghostly pupils stared at the house. The surrounding smell made the poor kitty feel utterly awful.

Zheng Xiu soothed Xiaofeng. "Don’t be afraid. This is Sister Feng Bei’s home. It’s normal for it to smell a little of meat."

Tightly covering its nose with its paws, Xiaofeng nodded as if it half-understood.

"Go on, get inside and out of the wind," Zheng Xiu said, putting Xiaofeng down.

But Xiaofeng absolutely refused to go inside. With a MEOW, it leaped nimbly onto the roof, standing ramrod straight in the cold wind, its fur all blown to one side as it shivered.

He glanced back. Seeing that Xiaofeng hadn’t run off, he thought to himself, ’The cat Ye Weiyang raised is so clever, it’s like it can understand people.’ He then turned back, holding his hands out flat. With the sharp CRACK of rapidly growing bone, two chains shot out from his palms.

Black flames solidified at the ends of the chains, forming the twin Large Curved Sabers known as Purgatory in his hands.

Now that he was here, Zheng Xiu finally understood why Feng Bei had brought him.

This was Feng Bei’s territory—secluded and deserted atop a steep mountain peak. Moreover, it seemed everyone in Ye Weiyang knew this was the hidden residence of Lord Upper Three and wouldn’t dare disturb her. It was the perfect place to grind for experience.

Seeing the young man eagerly draw his weapons, Feng Bei recalled their agreement. Wasting no words, she clasped her hands behind her back. "Come at me. I won’t use my hands. First, I want to see your true foundation. And while we’re at it, let me see what Senior Zheng Shan taught you."

Zheng Xiu raised his Curved Sabers and asked tentatively, "So... I should go hard?"

Feng Bei nodded impassively. "It’s fine."

Zheng Xiu had only drawn his weapons; he had not yet entered his Caged Sparrow form. The long chains shot out from his bones, and the Large Curved Sabers lunged toward Feng Bei.

Feng Bei sidestepped with ease, offering her assessment.

"It’s not over yet!"

A triumphant grin spread across Zheng Xiu’s face. A gust of wind whistled behind Feng Bei’s head as the Chain Sabers bizarrely whipped around to pursue her.

This was Tracking Purgatory!

At first, Feng Bei merely dodged. But then Zheng Xiu brought his other saber into play. With a flick of his wrists, the two Chain Sabers, burning with black flames, bent in bizarre arcs atop the cliff’s peak, lunging at Feng Bei as if they had eyes of their own.

It was then that Feng Bei finally realized: the young man was using some kind of Magic!

Like a black butterfly flitting through the air, Feng Bei weaved between the chains.

Zheng Xiu was like a relentless machine, madly whipping out the chains. The twin sabers chased right at Feng Bei’s heels.

Zheng Xiu felt he was doing a great job holding it in.

But the corners of his mouth still curled up into an irrepressible, joyful arc.
