Riven’s eyes narrowed, now was the worst time for his buff to be near its end, he needed his buffed strength to destroy the pillars and only 10 seconds remained.
If only he had a little bit more time then the chances of success would be much higher. Maybe, Ayala could increase the duration of his buff. So he turned his head towards Ayala and his expression darkened.
She was on her knees gasping for air. Her forehead was covered in sweat. Countless drops fell to the ground.
It didn’t look like she could increase the duration of the buff but he still told her to do so.
"Increase the duration of my buff!"
Ayala tilted her head and then shook it, saying weakly.
"I can’t mister... It’s impossible."
Riven sighed but he didn’t say a word because he had expected this when he first laid his eyes on her.
He had to act quickly if he wanted to succeed.
Riven stared at the pillar... Then he hammered his fist into the same spot of the pillar again and again, refusing to give up.
Each time his fist landed, fragments of rock flew backwards and new cracks emerged while the old cracks grew larger.
Riven continued and the cracks kept growing larger but it was a very slow process...
He wasn’t confident that he could destroy it in time with his bare hand. Maybe he could but he didn’t want to take the risk with his buff nearing its end.
Cutting it down with a sword was much more likely to succeed. There was just one problem...
His mana reserves — it was very slow. If he used mana manifestation then his mana reserves would almost become zero.
And when it happens... it won’t be pleasant for sure.
As he was lost in his own thoughts, the system whispered into his ears.
(Your buff ends in 7 seconds!)
Time was running out.
Now wasn’t the time for hesitation.
So without wasting his time, he manifested another mana sword. The moment he did so the system whispered into his ears but he ignored it.
But the thing that he couldn’t ignore was the overwhelming weakness that took over him. His legs trembled as his body swayed left to right then right to left.
Gritting his teeth, he stabilized his body and locked onto his target. He tightened his grip around his sword but before he could do anything...
The system whispered into his ears.
(Your buff runs out in 2 seconds!)
Riven’s eyes narrowed... he had to act quickly.
Without wasting a second, he swung his sword forward. In an instant, it cut through the pillar like a knife passing through butter.
Then the entire pillar came crashing down with a thunderous sound. Certain sections of the pillar hit the walls of the building with tremendous force and broke.
These sections broke into several pieces of rock, filling the horizon with countless pieces of debris. They slammed onto the ground one at a time.
The majority of the debris fell near the entrance and some landed too close to them... A large boulder was just a few inches above Krylian’s head.
Before he could warn him... Krylian cut the rock in half with his sword and ran back towards the staircase where Ayala was standing.
As Krylian ran, he looked at Riven and said calmly.
"Look above you. Get out of there kid, if you don’t want to die."
Riven tilted his head — there were dozens of fragments of the pillar above him and his subjects. If they stayed here, then the debris was going to fall onto them. So he mentally commanded.
"Get out of there."
His subjects stopped fighting the undead near the entrance and rushed towards the center of the room.
He was just about to follow them but then the system whispered into his ears.
(Your buff has ended!)
A moment later, he lost the strength in his legs and arms. He tripped and slammed onto the ground with a loud thud.
He turned his head towards the sky and saw countless pieces of debris above him. They were going to crush his body if he didn’t get to safety...
Riven rose unsteadily, stumbled, and collapsed. Moments later, he planted his hands on the ground and fought his way back to his feet, only to fall once more.
This wasn’t working...
He tilted his head upwards slightly. Dozens of pieces of debris were inches away from him. With his condition... dodging was next to impossible.
But before the debris could hit his body, the Devil Slayer appeared between them acting as a shield. The fragment of the pillar slammed onto its back and then turned to dust.
This wasn’t even the worst of it, the pillar was just a few inches away from hitting the ground. He had to act fast...
Left with no choice, Riven grabbed onto the Devil Slayer’s back and began to climb to its back. He moved one fist at a time and then pulled himself up a second later.
He whispered.
"Get out of here!"
The Devil Slayer lunged towards the staircase where Krylian and Ayala were reaching them within a moment.
Right after they arrived at the entrance, the entire pillar crashed near the entrance of the building and exploded into countless small fragments in all directions. A cloud of dust rose high in the sky.
When this cloud of dust cleared... there could only be seen one thing: debris and debris. The entrance was no longer visible.
However, the sound of the undead banging on the walls was still present and growing.
Krylian stared at the blocked entrance for a heartbeat then he stared at his newly gained subject.
He stared at him lying on the Devil Slayer’s back and asked.
"Care to explain, what is the meaning of this?"
Riven tilted his head and his lips curled upwards.
"I will only say one thing... my power works on these immortal undeads while yours doesn’t work."
Krylian didn’t reply immediately. His gaze lingered on his subject and then he said.
"So you can make monsters your slaves, huh?"
Riven replied neither confirming nor denying his claim.
"I may or I may not but one thing is certain..."
Riven paused and added a moment later.
"I am a lot more useful than you imagined, isn’t that right?"
Krylian didn’t speak immediately. A moment later, he saw his lips part then close. It seemed like he was about to say something but before Krylian could finish... exhaustion finally took hold.
His eyelids became heavy and started to slowly close and before he knew it... he blacked out.
