Dozens of undead had surrounded the watchtower, some banging on the walls loudly while others banged on this boulder blocking the entrance.
The sound of rock cracking echoed through his ear before the boulder split apart with a deep crack, followed by the grinding rumble of stone collapsing into fragments.
Then came the roar of Devil Slayer and the undead. Then the entire tower trembled not lightly but violently. Like the kind of shaking that made standing difficult.
Riven’s eyes narrowed as realization dawned upon him.
The undead had entered the watchtower and the devil slayer was fighting them. His expression darkened but before he could say a word, Krylian’s voice echoed through his ears.
"I am going down... Since you are taking protection of this tower, you have to help me protect it."
Riven didn’t say a word instead he just nodded his head slightly. His subject was done fighting so of course he was going to go.
He didn’t want to lose his strongest subjects no. So he rushed towards the staircase and descended the stairs.
As he ran down the tower, the staircase trembled so violently that it almost threw him off but he took the support of the walls to maintain balance.
But the stairs trembled violently again.
Then again.
Then again and again.
Every time it happened, he took the support of the walls. The others did the same too and continued running down the stairs when the trembling had stopped.
Finally, he saw the end of the stairs. He saw light.
But before he could stop, the system whispered into his ears.
(Your Subject Devil Slayer is injured!)
(Your Subject Devil Slayer is requesting mana for regeneration!)
(Heal your Subject? Mana is required.)
Riven didn’t immediately accept instead his gaze lingered on his mana reserves and he clenched his fist.
(Mana Reserve: 123/320)
His mana reserves weren’t high but they weren’t too low either. However, he didn’t know what kind of danger awaited below him.
So it was probably best for him to save his mana. But if Devil Slayer was severely wounded and would die without it?
He couldn’t let his strongest subject die... especially not one with skill.
Riven thought for a moment and decided.
"I will decide after seeing the condition of Devil Slayer."
If the condition of Devil Slayer was so bad that it would die if he didn’t use mana to heal it... only then would he use his mana to heal it.
He continued walking down the stairs and when he arrived at the room, his gaze swept across the entire place.
There was 6 undead scattered across the room. Two of them were the bandage undead and the remaining 4 were the armored undead.
They surrounded Devil Slayer. Wounds covered its back. From the wound, blue blood flowed down, creating a small pond of blue liquid below.
The wounds looked serious but he wasn’t sure if it was life-threatening.
Should he heal it or not? He wasn’t sure.
He thought for a moment and mentally said.
"Accept."
The system whispered into his ears.
(Request accepted!)
(Your Subject Devil Slayer is healing...)
(Your mana reserve has dropped by 44!)
(Current Mana Reserve: 79/320)
The wounds across Devil’s body disappeared as flesh slowly covered them.
As he stared at Devil Slayer, Krylian lunged towards the undead scattered across the room.
He wrapped both arms around the undead’s body and, with a strained grunt, hauled him off the ground. Every muscle in his body tensed as he staggered a step before summoning the strength to hurl him into the distance.
The undead collided with the ground, bouncing up and down several times a second before slamming onto a wall outside.
Krylian turned to them and shouted.
"Get every single undead out of here by hook or crook! Afterwards, gather rocks and Boulders to seal the entrance!"
Riven’s eyes narrowed. He didn’t understand why he was telling them to get the undead out of the base instead of killing them.
"Why are you throwing them out? Why don’t you kill them?"
Krylian shouted, his voice carrying a sense of urgency.
"Don’t question me! Just do what I am doing and get every single one of them out of here!"
Riven frowned and said.
"You can’t expect me to listen to you when you don’t even give me any answers!"
Krylian looked pissed. He finally snapped and said.
"BECAUSE THESE DAMN MONSTERS WILL RE...!"
Before Krylian could finish, Ayala’s voice resounded through their ears.
"Look out! Behind you Mister Krylian!"
An undead was charging towards Krylian’s back; its sword pointed towards where his heart was located. Krylian rotated his body around faster than his eyes could follow.
Before he knew it, Krylian swung his axe horizontally, the axe swept cleanly through the undead’s neck. Sand shot out like water shooting from a broken dam before falling to the ground.
The severed head was thrown upward by the force of the strike before crashing to the ground moments after the headless body collapsed.
When its body and head hit the ground, they turned into sand but instead of looking happy...Krylian looked frustrated like really frustrated.
Riven heard him mumbling.
"Damn it... I have to do it all over again!"
Do what again? He had no idea what.
Just then, the sand belonging to the undead that Krylian had just killed, started to ascend into the air and gather just a few inches away from them.
Riven stared at the sands intensely. The form that it was taking seemed very familiar to him.
"Where have I seen them?"
He tried to remember and a heartbeat later... his expression completely changed. His eyes widened in disbelief.
"Isn’t that the form of the ud...",
Before he could process this information further, a brilliant white-yellow flash of light exploded from where the sand was gathering blinding his vision briefly.
When the light cleared, the same undead that Krylian had killed a few seconds ago was sitting. It’s bloodlusty eyes locking onto Krylian.
Just like that... the creature which was dead a moment ago had come back to life.
He couldn’t believe his eyes... it went against every logic in this world. The monster had unnatural power but he had heard of nothing like this.
Krylian looked back at him and said.
"This is why... every single undead here is immortal. It doesn’t matter if you blow them into smithereens, they will also regenerate."
