After the priest, Lura was the one who influenced his life the most. She was in the same profession as him, scamming others to live.
Maybe that was why they got together in the first place. Like mind, think alike afterall.
Lura stared at him from the bed, her eyes moving along his body. She frowned and asked. "Where are you going?"
Silas paused, stunned at the reveal.
His eyes widened as he realized the horror he was facing. Lura was here with him. That meant, the time was around when they scammed the mafia.
Judging by the ease she was giving, it was likely the bait had been taken and they were waiting for good news.
Silas placed the sunglasses and grabbed the chair.
"Lura."
"Yeah."
He sat on the chair, rubbing his hands, looking down.
Silas’s eyes were dark as he completely lost what he was supposed to do. He thought any time was good, even the time after his death was acceptable in his eyes.
But this.... He hated this part of his life. The small part which he named misery.
Relax... relax.
Silas was in an extreme state of stress and his emotions were fluctuating violently. He exhaled a breath and looked up at Lura who was staring at him with confusion on her face.
"Did they contact you?"
"Guess." She smiled brightly.
"Seeing your smile. I am inclined to believe that the bait did its job." Silas said with a heavy sigh. He laid back on the chair, resting his head. His heart was beating loud in his ears, blood gushing and his orientation was a mess.
"Of course, who set up the bait."
"You," Silas said.
Lura was the mysterious woman he met in a club when he was performing as a magician to gather the attention of the city mayor via his son’s birthday.
During his scheme, he and Lura clashed and split the money. After that, they both encountered each other and took the job together somewhat.
Since they worked the same line of work, they communicated about the information.
Now, this job was the biggest they conjured up. To touch the pocket of the biggest criminal organization of the city.
The mafia.
The first step was to set up the bait for the mafia to bite and enter into their group. Now that the bait had been taken, the operation was smooth.
"We are going to their place tomorrow." Lura said from the bed. She laid down, removing her coat and threw it to the side. She wore a white crop top with baggy pants.
She smiled at Silas and patted the empty place beside her. "Come here. We need to rest."
"Sure." Silas said, his mind still clouded with confusion and about how he had to move forward.
This was the past scene and with his knowledge about the future, he could change to the desired outcome.
Saving himself from death.
Perhaps, this was the purpose of the trial. To see how he would react to his death.
Silas sat down and looked at Lura. She caught his eyes with an almost sly smile, placing her hand on his face, playing with his hair.
Her hand moved from the hair to his lips and she chuckled.
"We are going to leave all of this right?" She asked.
Silas smiled, matching her. "Yeah..." He whispered.
Lura let go of his lip and placed her hand in his cheek, pulling him close to her face. Their lips met and she kissed him briefly.
After that, she pulled back and looked at him with concern. "You don’t seem to look good. Are you okay?"
"Just a bit of worry." He speaks truthfully.
"Well, nothing I can’t fix. Come here, let’s cuddle. We don’t have a condom here." Lura said.
Silas let her hug him and laid on the bed, looking at the ceiling. His mind flickered between the two choices.
Normal people won’t hesitate and immediately choose the one where they live. But Silas was burdened by his impossible dream.
He wanted to destroy the mafia’s fiance and built the slum with that money. He accomplished that task when he was alive here.
At least, he hoped his plan moved on without him.
Silas closed his eyes, taking in the warmth from Lura. She was a precious person in his heart, taking in the spot no one dared. Her smile and wit were the charm.
He didn’t know when but he fell in love with her. To people like them, such love was deadly poison.
That was why Lura planned to risk her life for the final grandiose. Gather the wealth and leave this life. Built the family with Silas.
***
When the morning came, they both changed their clothes. Lura grabbed the bandage in the bed and threw it to Silas who was fixing his shoes.
"Help me." She asked.
Silas looked up and nodded, taking the bandage and walking toward her.
"Hide your boobs?" He asked, looking at her naked body.
"Yeah. I am disguising myself as a man for my identity. I don’t want to flirt with those bastards."
"Oh." Silas smiled. "Aren’t you going to use your wonderful charm? You loved to take the easiest path, right?"
"Want me to?" Lura said, looking at him with big eyes.
Silas picked up her hair and tidied up to the side. "Your choice." He said softly.
He wasn’t the type to force others with his feelings.
"Then, I chose this." Lura said, grabbing the bandage from his hand.
Silas nodded and began warping around her torso. "Tell me if it hurts."
"You can go. More."
He grabbed the bandage and pulled tightly. After that, Lura wore a white shirt and wore a bluish suit. Her boobs were gone, hidden by the bandage and the baggy suit.
She then looked at the mirror and checked her body, nodding with satisfaction. "At least, I don’t look like a woman anymore."
"You look like a skinny twink." Silas joked. "Oh, and your hair?"
"Shit! I forgot."
Silas watched as Lura took off her clothes and went to the bathroom to cut her hair. His eyes followed her.
4 months. The time they were going to spend together before the inevitable happened. The time was too short and yet felt long.
