"I guess my pirate boyfriend still needs to develop feelings for me, even after everything I did today,"
Ila said, her voice a grim mockery, her teal eyes glinting with a dangerous, unhinged edge as she loomed over Syn, her muscular frame pinning him to the pristine grass of the Scenery Biome’s glade.
Her black hair, pulled in a ponytail, framed her breathtaking face—high cheekbones, sharp jaw, lips curled in a smile that was both seductive and terrifying.
Her fitted tank top clung to her curves, her thighs pressed against his, radiating heat and control.
Syn’s eyes widened, his heart lurching like a trapped animal’s.
Had he heard her right?
"Pirate boyfriend"?
The words sank into him like a blade, sharp and cold.
The air thickened, oppressive, and Ila’s weight felt like a boulder, crushing his resolve. Something was wrong—terribly, viscerally wrong.
"What happened, Syn? Why do you look surprised?"
Ila’s voice dripped with mock sweetness, but her smile twisted into a predatory grin, her teal eyes gleaming with psychotic delight, pupils dilated as if savoring his fear.
gulp
Syn gulped, his throat dry, his instincts screaming danger.
The glade’s pleasant breeze was suffocating now, Ila’s presence a storm about to break.
He tried to shift beneath her, to push her off, but her thighs clamped tighter, her strength unyielding.
Slowly, deliberately, she grabbed his hands, her fingers lacing through his with a deceptive gentleness, guiding them to her chest, pressing them against the rapid thud of her heart.
She leaned down, her nose brushing his knuckles, inhaling deeply, her eyes fluttering closed for a moment before snapping open, her smile now a feral slash that sent ice through his veins.
He’d heard her correctly.
She knew.
She’d called him a pirate, and the realization crashed over him like a tidal wave—she’d known all along.
Panic surged, his pulse hammering in his ears.
Syn yanked his hands free, shoving her with desperate force.
Ila stumbled aside, caught off guard?, and Syn scrambled to crawl away, his fingers clawing at the grass, his heart pounding as he tried to rise.
But his leg wouldn’t budge.
He glanced back, horror seizing him as he saw a thin, metallic string coiled around his ankle, its end burrowed into the earth, anchoring him like a chained beast.
Where had it come from?
Ila rose, her movements slow, almost theatrical, as she untied her ponytail, letting her black hair cascade in a silken wave before pulling it back into a tight knot, two bangs framing her face like daggers.
Her smile was psychotic, her teal eyes burning with sadistic amusement.
"Where are you running off to, my ’pirate boyfriend’?" she purred, emphasizing the words with a chilling, unhinged chuckle that echoed in the glade as she stalked toward him, each step predatory.
Syn kicked out, his foot aiming for her legs, but Ila caught it with terrifying ease, her grip like iron.
She pulled a small string from her pocket, its ends glinting with tiny, whirring drills.
With a swift motion, she pressed it to his leg, and the drills activated, their high-pitched whine piercing the air as they burrowed into the ground, binding his second leg in place too the ground.
Syn stared, his breath shallow, his body trembling with dread. He was trapped, ensnared in her web, the glade—once their sanctuary—now a twisted prison.
"What are you doing, Ila?" he yelled, his voice raw, cracking with fear and defiance, his hazel eyes wide with panic.
"Something I should’ve done a long time ago," Ila replied, her voice a low, velvet growl, her smile unwavering as she moved to his head.
She grabbed his running hands, wrists, her fingers bruising as she forced them together above his head, pinning them to the ground.
Another drill-string appeared in her hand, its ends sinking into the earth with a mechanical hum, securing his arms in an unyielding bind.
Syn was now fully immobilized, spread-eagled on the grass, his chest heaving, his body exposed and helpless under her manic gaze.
She was going to kill him, Syn decided, his mind spiraling into despair.
No one would save him—not here, in her domain, sealed from the world.
He’d been a fool to return to the Kingdom, to think he could outmaneuver her.
Vera’s warnings echoed in his mind, mocking his hubris. "Just kill me already," he rasped, his voice breaking, his body slumping in defeat.
"For all the time we spent together, please... make it quick."
Ila straddled his stomach, her weight pressing down, and with a cruel flourish, she let herself drop fully, forcing the air from his lungs in a painful, wheezing gasp.
Syn’s vision blurred, his chest burning as he struggled to breathe.
"Who said I’m going to kill you, Syn?" she murmured, her voice dripping with mock tenderness, her teal eyes glinting with obsession. "You’re gravely mistaken."
"Then what do you want from me, Ila?" he gasped, his voice hoarse, his chest heaving under her weight. "I have nothing to give you!"
"I want you, Syn," she said, her eyes blazing with a yandere’s unhinged devotion, her smile both loving and terrifying, a paradox that chilled him to the core.
Before he could protest, she took a peach from the ground and shoved it into his mouth, the fruit’s flesh choking his words, its sweetness cloying against his panic.
"Mhm... mh," he choked, his jaw straining, the peach a gag that silenced his pleas.
"I knew the whole time you were a pirate, Syn," Ila said, her smile widening into a maniacal grin as she drew her knife, its blade catching the artificial sunlight in a wicked gleam.
"And I knew you’d return." She began cutting his uniform, the knife slicing through fabric like cheese, grazing his skin just enough to draw faint red lines, each touch of the cold metal sending shivers of terror through him.
The blade danced across his chest, peeling away his shirt, exposing his bare skin to the warm air, and Syn’s sweat beaded, his body trembling under her absolute control.
"Shall I tell you something funny?" Ila continued, her voice gleeful, almost childlike, as she stripped the last of his shirt, her knife hovering over his heaving chest., "A secret."
"I’m the one who controls the shapeshifter base."
