The starlight spilled through the viewport of Pako’s room, bathing the cluttered space in a silvery glow.
Poiderman and Tatman comics lay strewn across a low table, their edges curling like memories.
The pirate ship’s engines thrummed faintly.
But here, in this cramped, dimly lit room, time seemed to pause, trapping Syn, Vera, Pako, and Aster in a storm of unspoken pain.
Vera stood rigid, her purple wavy hair glinting, her patched tunic stretched tight across her shoulders.
Her purple eyes, which were fierce with anger, shimmered with tears as she glared at Syn.
He stood by Pako’s bed, dark hair falling into hazel eyes that carried a crushing weight of guilt.
Pako perched beside him, her black bob framing a face tight with hurt.
Aster leaned against the doorframe, blonde ponytail loose, teal eyes glistening, her muscular frame tense with regret.
Syn’s words from moments ago lingered like a wound—his fear that staying would have killed them, his belief that leaving was the only way to protect them, his guilt over the deaths of Riko, Lena, Jace, and Sira.
Vera’s voice cut through the silence, sharp at first, then cracking. "You thought we’d just forget you, Syn? That we’d just lay low and become a part of the kingdom, living half dead lives?"
Her purple eyes locked onto his, her hands trembling. "I lay awake every night, wondering if you were dead, if I’d failed you. Do you know what that did to me? To us?"
Syn’s hazel eyes dropped to his hands, his gray shirt creased from his hunched posture.
"Vera, I... I didn’t know how to stay," he said, his voice low, breaking. "Every time I closed my eyes, I saw them—Riko’s smile, Lena’s laugh, all gone because I led them into a war we couldn’t win. I thought if I stayed, I’d lose you too." His fingers clenched, knuckles white. "You’re my family. I couldn’t survive that."
Pako’s breath caught, her expressive eyes flooding with tears.
She shifted closer, her black bob brushing her cheeks, her lace camisole soft against Syn’s arm.
"Family doesn’t abandon each other, Syn," she said, her voice small, stripped of her usual mischief. "When you left, I felt like... like I was nothing. Like I was just some toy you got tired of playing with." Her lips quivered, her vulnerability laid bare. "I kept asking myself, what did I do to make you go?"
Syn’s head snapped up, his hazel eyes wide with anguish.
"Pako, you were never nothing," he said, his voice fierce despite the tears spilling down his cheeks. "You’re the light in every dark moment I’ve had. I left because I was scared—scared I’d get you killed, scared I’d destroy what was left, the most precious thing to me." He reached for her hand, his touch trembling. "I’m so sorry. I was wrong."
Aster stepped forward, her teal eyes glistening, her blonde ponytail swaying.
She knelt before Syn, her muscular frame softened by guilt.
"I failed you too," she said, her voice steady but thick.
"I was a princess, Syn. I should’ve seen how heavy the rebellion was on you. I should’ve carried more of it." Her teal eyes searched his, raw with regret. "Instead, I let you bear it alone, and when you left, I thought I wasn’t enough to make you stay."
Syn shook his head, tears streaming.
"Aster, you didn’t fail me," he said, his voice cracking. "You fought beside me, believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. I left because I was a fucking coward, not because of you." His hazel eyes met hers, then Pako’s, then Vera’s, each gaze a plea.
"I hurt you all, and I’ll spend my life making it right if you’ll let me."
Vera’s shoulders sagged, her purple eyes softening as she crossed the room.
She knelt beside Aster, her hand reaching for Syn’s, her touch tentative.
"We hurt you too," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "We thought you’d joined Ila, that you’d betrayed us. We should’ve trusted you, Syn. We should’ve known you’d never turn."
Her purple eyes shimmered, a vulnerability in her tone.
"Can you forgive us?"
Syn’s hazel eyes held theirs, his tears slowing.
"There’s nothing to forgive," he said, his voice steady now, warm. "You fought for me, even when I didn’t deserve it. You’re my home." He opened his arms, and they fell into a tearful embrace, a tangle of limbs and hearts.
Vera’s purple hair mingled with Pako’s black bob,
Aster’s blonde ponytail brushing Syn’s cheek, their tears blending as they clung to each other, a family whole again.
"I love you," Syn whispered, his voice muffled against Vera’s shoulder. "All of you. I’m never leaving again."
"We love you too," Pako sobbed, her face buried in his chest, her lace camisole soft against his shirt.
Aster’s arms tightened, her teal eyes glowing with hope. Vera’s purple eyes closed, a single tear falling as she held them close.

The ship’s mess hall was a warm contrast to Pako’s room, its long table set with mismatched plates and steaming bowls of stew, the scent of herbs and bread filling the air.
The group had migrated there, drawn by the need for comfort after their raw confrontation.
The hum of the engines was softer here, the starlight filtering through a smaller viewport, casting a cozy glow over the scene.
Pako, her black bob bouncing, ladled stew into bowls, her expressive eyes brighter now, a hint of mischief returning.
"Eat up, Syn," she teased, sliding a bowl toward him. "You look like you’ve been living on air and guilt." Her lace camisole shifted as she moved, her playful energy infectious.
Syn managed a small smile, his hazel eyes warming as he took the bowl.
"Thanks, Pako," he said, his voice soft but genuine.
He sat beside Vera, who was cutting bread with precise movements, her purple hair tucked behind her ear, her patched tunic replaced with a loose purple sweater that matched her eyes.
Aster sat across from them, her blonde ponytail loose, her teal eyes calm as she sipped water.
"This feels... normal," she said, her voice quiet, almost surprised. "After everything, just sitting here, eating together—it’s nice."
