Sheldon Reid said coldly, "Hardly."

Marcus Monroe’s brow twitched, but his expression quickly smoothed into a polite mask. "I hope you have a pleasant evening, General Reid!"

To Sheldon Reid’s ears, the words were laced with sarcasm.

He let out a quiet snort and was the first to turn and walk away.

Just then, a young man near Marcus Monroe snorted. "What’s he so arrogant for? He’s just a general! He only got where he is by riding his old man’s coattails. Does he really think he’s the City Lord of Central City or something?"

The words were full of aggression, a clear sign of long-held resentment toward Sheldon Reid.

The man beside him immediately nudged him with his elbow, signaling him to be quiet.

Marcus Monroe took in their words and actions, his eyes missing nothing. He recalled that the speaker was Jared Yorke, who had just been introduced, and the one beside him was Elias Hayes, a scion of the Hayes Family.

A subtle glint appeared in his eyes. He nodded toward them and said, "Please, speak freely. Everyone here today is an honored guest of Jovitas, and we consider you our friends. What need is there for such reservations between friends?"

Upon hearing this, a spark of understanding lit up Jared Yorke’s pensive expression. He immediately pulled Elias Hayes over and began to chat animatedly with Marcus.

This played right into Marcus Monroe’s hands.

And just like that, he had an opening...

He believed that with Sheldon Reid’s domineering attitude, there were bound to be many who opposed him. And the opinions of these scions undoubtedly represented those of their fathers. To truly stand in opposition to Sheldon Reid, all they needed was a catalyst, an opportunity.

And he was more than willing to play that part.

Such banquets always dragged on for quite some time, but Paige Summers had already finished what she needed to do.

She hurried from the restaurant back to Marcus Monroe’s residence, armed with the information she had gotten from Wendy Lowell about Ryan Faraday’s possible whereabouts.

Although Marcus Monroe wasn’t there, his men had their orders: Paige Summers’s commands were to be treated as his own.

So, a team was quickly dispatched from Central City, heading for Kennet Base, a very small and unremarkable outpost not too far away.

In stark contrast to their smooth operation, Sheldon Reid was in an absolutely foul mood.

He had left the banquet early and returned to Military Command headquarters.

At this hour, no one was still at their desks. A dead silence filled the halls of Military Command.

He sat in his office, his frustration mounting the more he thought about it. Suddenly, he swept his arm across the desk in a fit of rage.

Documents went flying, scattering all over the floor.

From outside, an aide immediately called out, "General?"

Sheldon Reid slowly leaned back in his chair. ’This is nowhere near enough to vent my frustration,’ he thought. He raised his voice and ordered, "Get the car. We’re going to the villa."

He then called Nora Lowell and ordered her to wait for him outside the dormitory area.

On the way to the villa, Nora Lowell could easily feel the oppressive tension in the air.

She didn’t make a sound, simply sitting there in silence.

’If it were any other man,’ she thought, ’I might not mind offering some gentle comfort. But Sheldon Reid... I still can’t figure out his temper, so I don’t dare make a rash move.’

Besides, the thought of their destination filled her with a complex mix of emotions.

In that villa, Sheldon Reid had subjected her to countless physical and verbal humiliations.

She was afraid.

But beyond the fear, in the deepest recesses of her heart, there was also a secret flicker of pleasure.

At times, that feeling of being completely conquered and dominated—that irresistible sense of submission—brought her an immense thrill!

It had even reached the point of being irresistible.

It was just like her feelings about Sheldon Reid himself.

It was a contradiction.

On the one hand, she hated him. On the other, she was completely dependent on him.

This contradiction drove her to do things that even she couldn’t fully control.

When Milton Faraday became so infatuated that he obeyed her every whim, not just in bed, she felt a subtle sense of glee.
