Kimberly Jennings frowned slightly. ’Why do I have such a bad feeling about this?’
"Kimberly, the decor in your house is so luxurious. It must have cost a lot, right?" Eleanor Young was stunned by the fashionable, artistic interior the moment she stepped inside. Compared to this, their house was practically a straw hut!
"It did cost a lot, but the house is our own, and we’ll be living here for the rest of our lives. Spending a little extra on renovations is worth it." This was Kimberly Jennings’s philosophy. Even if they no longer came from a wealthy family, their quality of life would not be compromised. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Of course, improving one’s quality of life wasn’t necessarily about spending tons of cash. True quality was reflected in a person’s refinement and aesthetic taste.
"Kimberly, which designer did you hire to make this house so beautiful? You should introduce them to me. After Zoe gets into a prestigious university, we should redecorate our house too." Clearly, Aria Cheney also loved the layout, feeling the place was filled with a fresh, artistic atmosphere.
"Seraphina and I designed it all ourselves. We didn’t hire anyone; we just did what we liked. If you’re going to renovate, you should just do what you want. The most important thing is that it’s comfortable for you and you love how it looks! That’s the whole point of decorating!"
’Kimberly Jennings had seen right through these two families. One was more selfish than the other, one more vain. How could she possibly let her precious daughter help them decorate any house!’
When Aria Cheney heard they had done it themselves, the amazement in her eyes immediately faded, and her previous praise turned to disdain. "You have a point! Now that I look at it, it’s all just black and white. So inauspicious! There isn’t even a splash of vibrant color. My house could never be decorated like this!"
Kimberly Jennings’s expression soured. Anyone would be in a bad mood if the fruits of their labor were so maliciously criticized.
Just then, Seraphina Sterling, having heard the voices, came out of her room. "I hear older people tend to prefer vibrant colors. That statement is perfectly embodied by my aunt here!"
"Seraphina Sterling, you dare say I’m old—" Aria Cheney was so angry her eyebrows shot up. A woman’s age is her biggest sensitivity!
"Auntie, you’re not going to stop me from telling the truth, are you? Compared to my mom, and compared to me, you *are* older! I’m not wrong!" Seraphina Sterling couldn’t be bothered with pleasantries. ’Three women make a drama, and these three showing up so early in the morning definitely means trouble!’
"You—" Aria Cheney just couldn’t stand Seraphina Sterling. ’From the very beginning, she’s seemed to be going against me at every turn!’
"Kimberly, since you’re so wealthy, sparing fifty thousand dollars to save Zeke shouldn’t be a problem, right?" Eleanor Young, worried that Aria Cheney would anger Seraphina Sterling and ruin their chances of borrowing money, quickly cut her off.
"Save Zeke?" Kimberly Jennings still didn’t know what had happened.
Eleanor Young immediately explained the whole story in great detail. "Kimberly, I’m truly at my wit’s end! The other party is demanding fifty thousand dollars to settle. The police said that if we don’t settle, not only will our little shop be shut down, but Zeke will be thrown in jail! You absolutely have to help Zeke this time!"
"Kimberly, you got so much from the demolition compensation. Taking out fifty thousand dollars to help Zeke should be no problem, right?" Aria Cheney chimed in. ’She certainly didn’t want to be the one to pay!’
"Kimberly, hurry up and get the money to help Zeke. We’ll go find the other party to settle immediately!" Miss Jennings was even more ridiculous, not even asking for an opinion but directly giving orders.
Kimberly Jennings laughed and retorted, "Help Zeke? Why should I help Zeke? I remember it crystal clear. When he paid me back, you said that no matter what happened to me in the future, I should never come to your door for help! Now that Zeke is in trouble, you have the nerve to come here asking for my help. Isn’t that laughable!"
Eleanor Young’s face grew even paler. She had indeed said those words before. At the time, she was just angry that Kimberly Jennings had made them repay their debt. She had worried that the mother and daughter wouldn’t be able to survive on their own and would later drag their family down, so she had wanted to sever ties for good. She never imagined that this mother-daughter duo could still live so well without the Jennings Family’s support! And that they had even received such a huge sum for the demolition!
"Kimberly, I was wrong! I was so wrong! I shouldn’t have looked down on you and your daughter, and I shouldn’t have said those awful things! You’re the bigger person, so please forgive me this one time! No matter what, Zeke is still your brother!"
"Oh? Does Zeke Jennings even remember that I’m his sister, and Seraphina is his niece? If he really considered us family, he wouldn’t have gone to the police station to testify against Seraphina when Philip Hale turned the tables and framed her! He nearly saddled Seraphina with a charge of false accusation!"
Just mentioning it filled Kimberly Jennings with rage. "Seraphina is still a student! She has the college entrance exams in her future, yet Zeke didn’t even think twice before going to the police station to spout some specious nonsense! He showed no regard for Seraphina’s future or her prospects! He doesn’t treat us like family, so why should I save him? At this point, the only reason I’m not kicking him while he’s down is out of respect for Mom and Dad!"
Kimberly Jennings’s attitude was extremely stern and her words were sharp, leaving everyone stunned. This was a side of Kimberly Jennings they were not familiar with.
Miss Jennings hadn’t known about this. "Foolish! Truly foolish! How could Zeke do such a thing!"
Hearing this, Eleanor Young was at a loss and started to wail. "Mom, what are we going to do? Is our Zeke really destined for jail?"
