Transmigrated as the Villain: I Will Destroy Fate

"Many of you know me, but for those of you who do not, I am the headmaster of Luminara Academy, Rubin Goldmark."

A wave of mana spread out through the crowd, but it wasn’t suffocating. It felt warm, gentle, and reassuring. It made the man standing on the podium look all the more friendly.

"What you are about to participate in is not a lesson. No, it is far more than just that."

Ronan saw Kazuma’s eyes narrow when the headmaster said that.

"We at Luminara Academy have given our students an education. We have taught them theory, we have given them structure, and most importantly, we have given them a safe and competitive environment to grow."

Another wave of mana, but this one more forceful.

"But strength will not fight your battles for you. No, strength without judgment and adaptability is useless. Without the ability to survive and preserve their strength, even the greatest talents will die on the battlefield."

The battlefield. Those words shook the student body. Most students here never thought they would ever get to see a "battlefield." Humanity had a peace treaty with the elves and demons, and there was no sign of any war happening anytime soon.

So the idea of a potential battlefield was frightening.

And one word stuck even more. Survive.

That implied something far worse.

"As you know, you will be deployed into a controlled region of the southern region. ’Controlled’ is a relative term. It will simply be monitored."

He chuckled at that. No one else did.

"You will operate as a class unit. Each class will be a team, and you will be competing against each other, as the name suggests."

He pointed behind him to the words Inter-Class War.

"Your performance will be evaluated through points. Similar to the entrance exam, but not quite the same. Points will be awarded through two methods."

He raised two fingers.

"Territory control, objective completion, and combat contribution."

"Each team will be assigned one major mana node, along with numerous minor nodes." As he said that, four circular artifacts began floating around his hand. "The major node will be used to secure your team’s base. The minor nodes will be used to obtain territory."

"Throughout the designated area, there will be multiple points of interest that you can capture. Each area can be captured by inserting your mana node into a large statue that will symbolize the point of capture. When you enter your node into the point of interest, you will have essentially ’captured’ the point. The node will automatically generate mana into the statue, leading towards the capture of the point."

"Each point of interest will take a different amount of mana to capture, depending on the difficulty. Some will be difficult, and they will award fewer overall points, while some will be difficult to capture and will lead to more points."

Ronan turned to his class. They all seemed extremely invested in the information, as did every other class.

Leaders from all classes sharpened their gazes, already coming up with plans and ideas. Everyone seemed on edge.

"However, if another class defeats your defense of a point and replaces your node, they will transfer all the progress over to their own class, and should the point be captured, it will belong to them."

The Headmaster’s gaze hardened as he swept through the crowd.

"If your major node gets destroyed... You are disqualified, and your class rankings will drop drastically, along with all the royalties provided."

He paused.

"You will find," Rubin continued, his tone calm once more, "that protecting your foundation is far more difficult than seizing another’s."

The four floating artifacts rotated slowly around his hand.

"Your major node will remain fixed once deployed. It cannot be relocated. It cannot be concealed once activated."

Ronan didn’t need to look to know what that meant for the room.

Every class now had: a target, a weakness, and a responsibility.

Conflict wasn’t just encouraged.

It was inevitable.

"The minor nodes," Rubin went on, gesturing lightly, "will be distributed amongst your class upon arrival. How you allocate them... is your decision."

"Objectives," Rubin continued, "will be issued periodically."

The floating artifacts flickered once.

"They will be issued to the major nodes, and completion of objectives will lead to great rewards. However, they are optional, and will not be required, nor will classes receive any punishment for ignoring them."

"You will be provided no provisions."

That line landed heavier now that everything else had been said.

"No food. No water. No shelter."

A few students shifted. Others went completely still.

"Your ability to function," Rubin said, "is part of your evaluation."

Ronan glanced briefly at the surrounding classes.

Some nobles looked irritated. A few... concerned.

Surprisingly, the commoners among the crowd looked a little sharper and less concerned. More focused.

"The southern region is not forgiving. Mana beasts inhabit the area. Environmental hazards are... unpredictable."

That was the closest thing to a warning they would get.

"You are permitted to engage one another freely. Combat is expected. Engagements will be monitored, but we cannot watch everyone at once."

A pause.

"Killing will be heavily punished for the guilty individual."

For the guilty individual. Not the class.

The implications of that were not hard to understand for anyone in the room, and the already silent students were frozen at this point.

Dropping this on a group of freshman students.

Ronan wanted to laugh.

Around him, reactions began to form.

Elara had already shifted closer to Darius, speaking in low, urgent tones. Her posture was tense, focused. She was already thinking in terms of structure, allocation, and control.

Predictable.

Necessary.

Kazuma stood beside him, unusually still.

"They are forcing decision-making under uncertainty."

Ronan didn’t respond. He already knew that.

His gaze shifted.

S class.

He expected distance. Fragmentation. Ego.

Instead–

They were... communicating. Not all of them, and they were still largely fractured... but they didn’t seem nearly as bad as he’d read.

Ronan’s eyes narrowed slightly.

That wasn’t...

His gaze passed briefly over a familiar figure.

Grace Light.

She wasn’t looking at the headmaster. She was watching her fellow students with a kind gaze that spoke compassion and understanding.

For the first time, Ronan felt something he hadn’t expected.

A slight... disconnect.

Something wasn’t aligning.

He couldn’t explain it, nor put it into words, but this situation felt wrong somehow.

Before he could follow the thought–

The air changed.

A low hum spread beneath their feet.

Intricate lines of mana lit up across the floor of the hall, forming a massive array.

No warning. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"Prepare yourselves," Rubin said calmly.

The light intensified.

Space distorted.

Sound compressed into nothing.

For a brief, disorienting instant–

Weightlessness.

Then–

Impact.

Heat struck first. Heavy, humid air entered his nostrils.

The smell of damp earth filled his lungs.

The academy was gone.
