The surroundings were dim, and the road was silent. There wasn’t a soul in sight. The more she walked, the more panicked the girl in the white dress felt.

"How much farther?" she asked in a low voice.

The pregnant woman and the woman in the shirt exchanged a look. "We’re almost there," the pregnant woman said weakly.

The woman in the shirt glanced at the guy with glasses beside her and gave a slight cough, signaling him.

The guy with glasses slowed his pace and snuck up behind the girl in the white dress. He pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and pressed it firmly over her mouth and nose.

The girl’s eyes widened in an instant, and terror flooded her heart, but she passed out before she could struggle.

Seeing this, the pregnant woman and the woman in the shirt started laughing.

"This girl is way too gullible."

"It’s because our acting is so good. Tricking her was a piece of cake."

The guy with glasses hoisted the girl in the white dress over his shoulder and continued deeper into the alley.

Renee Jennings, led by Inky, arrived at the bus stop. The moment she got off, Inky flew onto her shoulder.

"Renee, they were right here just now. They went down that road."

"I know." Renee Jennings sent her live location to Henry Stark, then used 20 points to redeem an hour of Combat Power.

She followed Inky into the pitch-black alley.

The little guy was smart. He had arranged for other birds to follow along the way, with a new one pointing the direction at every turn.

"Inky, you’re finally here!" two robins flew down from the utility pole.

"Clementine, Millet, thanks for your help." Inky thanked them before asking, "Where did those bad guys take the female?"

"Right inside that building." Clementine pointed with a wing at the dilapidated residential building next to them.

Millet glanced at Renee Jennings and warned, "There are a lot of bad guys. One human might not be able to win, especially a female."

"How many of them are there?" Renee Jennings asked.

Clementine replied, "Besides the three bad guys from earlier, there are three more inside the building."

"Six people?" Renee Jennings pursed her lips, a thoughtful look in her eyes.

She asked the system, ’With the Combat Power I redeemed, can one person win against six?’

’Four strong men?’

Renee Jennings’s gaze flickered. She said to Inky, "Sonny, go take a look for me. I need to know what those six bad guys are like—how many men, how many women, and whether they’re young or old."

"Got it!" Inky agreed immediately, then turned his head to Clementine. "Which apartment are they in? Take this Robin for a look."

"Let’s go." Clementine was the first to fly up.

Inky flapped his wings and chased after him.

About two minutes later, the two birds returned to Renee Jennings’s side.

Inky said urgently, "Renee, it’s bad! They’re about to hurt that female in the white dress!"

"What’s the situation up there?" Renee Jennings asked, her brow furrowed.

"This Robin saw that besides the three humans from before, there are three more inside. One old female and one old male—the old male’s legs are bad—and one young male." Inky first reported back on the task Renee Jennings had given him.

He caught his breath and continued, "They’re going to make the young male sleep with the female in the white dress. Then the three bad guys will wait until they’re done, take their money, and find a place to dump her."

Renee Jennings’s hands, hanging at her sides, clenched into tight fists. The situation was about what she had expected.

She took out her phone and dialed Henry Stark’s number. "How much longer until you’re here?"

Henry Stark: "The GPS says about ten more minutes. I’ve already contacted the local police station."

"Okay," Renee Jennings said. "I’m going up first to stall for time."

On the other end of the line, Henry Stark’s dark brows knitted together. He said in a low, serious voice, "Wait for us to arrive."

"I’m afraid there isn’t enough time," Renee Jennings’s voice was tinged with anxiety. "Inky said they’re about to make a young man sleep with the girl."

"Are you confident you can handle it?" Henry Stark asked, clearly worried.

Renee Jennings said softly, "I’m eighty percent sure I can hold out until you get here."

"Okay," Henry Stark instructed. "No matter what you do, your safety comes first."

"Don’t worry."

"Don’t hang up."

"Okay." Renee Jennings didn’t hang up. She locked her phone screen and put it in her pocket.

She scanned the area and faintly spotted a dog in the distance.

"Inky, go see if there’s a dog over there. Try to get it to come upstairs and help." After speaking, Renee Jennings looked at Clementine. "In a bit, you lead the dog upstairs. Inky, you stay here to guide the police. Millet, you’ll lead the way for me for now."

With the tasks assigned, Renee Jennings followed Millet and dashed into the dilapidated building.

It was an old-style residential building with only one apartment per floor. The voice-activated lights in the stairwell were all broken, making every step in the darkness feel like a plunge into an abyss.

Renee Jennings quickly took out her phone, turned on the flashlight for light, and climbed all the way to the fifth floor in one go.

Millet stopped. "Renee, it’s in here!"

Inside the door, in the cramped and rundown apartment, the old woman was serving fruit to the pregnant woman, the woman in the shirt, and the guy with glasses. There were also sunflower seeds on the table.

The group chatted while cracking open sunflower seeds.

The pregnant woman, finding her belly uncomfortable, reached into her dress, pulled out a pillow, and stuffed it behind her back for support.

The woman in the shirt grabbed an apple and took a bite, asking, "Why don’t you find a wife for your son?"

"We did. She ran away." The old woman sighed. "My son’s a good person, really. He just went through something a couple of years ago that... affected his mind."

The fake pregnant woman sneered, "Not mentally well, but he still knows he wants to sleep with women?"

A hint of embarrassment crossed the old woman’s face. The guy with glasses, however, spoke up for her. "What’s not to know about that? It’s instinct. Even a fool knows."

The woman in the shirt couldn’t be bothered to comment on such matters. She urged, "Ma’am, just give us the rest of the money. The three of us will split it now. Let’s not waste any more time."

"In a moment." The old woman stood up. "Let me go check on how my son is doing."

Just as she stood up, a knock suddenly came from the door.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK—

"Someone’s visiting you this late?" the woman in the shirt asked with a frown.

The old woman was also confused. "I don’t know. No one ever comes by."

She walked over and opened the door, revealing a beautiful young woman—prettier than any girl she had ever seen before.

"Who are you looking for?" the old woman asked.

The door was only open a crack. Renee Jennings placed her palm against the door panel and forcefully pushed it open. The old woman was forced to take a few steps back. "Who are you?"

Renee Jennings entered the living room, glanced at the people cracking sunflower seeds, and then scanned the entire apartment.

She first pushed open the door next to the sofa and saw an old man sitting in a wheelchair.

Renee Jennings then walked to the other side of the room and reached out to push open the door by the TV stand.

Seeing this, the old woman rushed forward to stop her. "What do you think you’re doing?"
