ELLA.
Yes, Alex was completely insane.
I stared at the content of the golden box with widened eyes, unable to believe what I was seeing.
Inside it rested a diamond necklace, a very familiar one. The exact same necklace I had once shown him a year ago during our fourth wedding anniversary.
Back then, I had fallen in love with it instantly. I could still remember how excited I had been while showing him the picture of it repeatedly like a child.
And I remembered his response too clearly.
"Ella, it’s too expensive. I can’t afford something like that right now."
At that time, I had believed him instantly, like a complete fool. I had smiled and told him it was fine.
I even apologized for asking for something "unreasonable."
Thinking back now, I felt utterly stupid.
How could I have believed that lie so easily?
Alex was the CEO of Bloodfang Group, one of the richest Alphas around.
Was there truly anything he couldn’t afford?
No.
The truth was painfully simple now.
He just never loved me enough to get it for me. That realization alone left a bitter taste in my mouth.
I scoffed softly while staring at the necklace glittering beautifully inside the box.
"What a waste..." I muttered quietly, my voice barely above a whisper.
The necklace no longer held any meaning to me. Slowly, I shut the box and shifted my attention toward the huge bouquet of flowers sitting on the desk.
And instantly, irritation surged through me again.
Roses.
Of all flowers, he sent roses.
I clenched my jaw tightly.
Was Alex truly this careless?
I had told him countless times during our marriage that I was allergic to roses. Even their scent alone irritated me badly yet here he was sending me an entire bouquet of them.
A humorless laugh almost escaped my lips.
Did he genuinely not remember?
Or did he never care enough to pay attention?
Honestly, I didn’t even know which one hurt more. I shook my head slowly in disappointment, feeling exhausted all of a sudden.
Then my eyes caught sight of a small folded letter attached neatly to the flowers.
My expression instantly darkened. Reluctantly, I reached for it and unfolded it slowly.
The familiar handwriting immediately greeted my eyes.
> Love you forever baby. I really cannot do anything without you, please come back. I miss your voice and your touches.
My grip around the letter tightened instantly.
The audacity.
Honestly, the sheer audacity of that man.
After everything he did to me...after humiliating me...after choosing Eva over me...He suddenly missed my touch?
I nearly laughed in disbelief.
I opened my mouth immediately, ready to curse him out loud but before I could say a single word...a hand suddenly snatched the letter away from me.
I froze instantly and only then did reality hit me.
Lurgard was still in the office.
Slowly, I turned my head toward him and his expression had completely darkened. The softness from earlier was completely gone. His jaw was clenched tightly as his eyes scanned through the letter in his hand.
And honestly?
The dangerous look on his face made my heart skip nervously.
After a quick glance through the contents of the letter, Lurgard’s expression darkened completely.
His jaw tightened sharply and the veins around his neck became visible as anger settled heavily across his face.
Then without hesitation, he tore the letter into pieces.
My eyes widened slightly as the torn papers fell to the ground one after another.
"I am going to break Alex’s hands," Lurgard muttered darkly, his voice filled with irritation. "So he won’t get the chance to write such horrible words again."
I stared at him blankly for a second before biting the inside of my cheeks hard to stop myself from laughing.
Honestly, his reaction was unexpectedly dramatic and strangely satisfying.
The jealousy radiating off him was impossible to miss.
"And roses..." Lurgard scoffed suddenly, glaring at the bouquet on the desk like it had personally offended him. "Doesn’t he know you’re allergic to them?"
I blinked instantly, as surprise flickered across my face.
He knew?
I stared at him carefully for a moment.
I couldn’t even remember telling him about my allergy before.
Yet he knew.
Before I could process the thought properly, Lurgard grabbed the bouquet roughly and walked toward the window.
Then without a second thought, he threw the flowers outside.
I gasped lightly.
The bouquet disappeared instantly from sight.
Honestly, I should probably have stopped him, because from just a glance one could tell that those flowers definitely cost a fortune.
But strangely enough, I didn’t care...not one bit.
Then Lurgard turned back toward the desk again. His eyes landed on the diamond necklace still resting inside the golden box.
"And this..." he muttered before grabbing the necklace carelessly.
The expensive diamonds sparkled under the office lights.
"...I can get you something far better than this, Theresa." His gaze shifted toward me briefly. "Just name it and it will appear."
The confidence in his voice was unbelievable and before I could even respond...
He threw the necklace out of the window too.
I blinked twice.
Honestly...Alex deserved it, and everything he sent deserved to be thrown away, just like the way I wanted to throw him completely out of my life.
I slowly exhaled and leaned back into the chair behind me, trying to calm the strange emotions swirling inside my chest.
The office suddenly became quiet again.
Only the faint sound of the air conditioner echoed softly around us.
Then Lurgard spoke again.
"There’s going to be a court hearing soon regarding your divorce with Alex."
My entire body stiffened instantly.
What?
I raised my head sharply to look at him.
"A court hearing?" I repeated slowly.
Lurgard nodded calmly, though irritation was still visible in his expression.
’It seems Alex refused to sign the papers willingly.’ The thoughts echoed in my head.
A dull ache spread through my chest immediately.
Why was Alex making things difficult?
Why couldn’t he just let me go peacefully?
I already made myself clear—I didn’t want him anymore, I didn’t want the marriage anymore.
So why drag things this far?
I lowered my gaze slowly, anxiety creeping into me bit by bit.
"I hope you prepare properly for it, Theresa," Lurgard added quietly.
His words only made my uneasiness worse.
What if things didn’t go as planned?
What if the court ruled in Alex’s favor?
My fingers tightened unconsciously around the edge of the chair.
No, I must definitely win, because I couldn’t go back there.
I absolutely couldn’t return to Alex again.
