Ella.
I never knew Lawrence and Lurgard were this talkative.
They kept going on and on, each of them throwing in one comment after another, as though they had been holding back conversations for years and were only now finding the opportunity to release everything at once.
It almost felt endless.
One topic flowed into another without pause, their voices overlapping at times in their eagerness to be heard. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought they were trying to outtalk each other simply for attention.
They looked like children who hadn’t seen their mother in ages, excited and desperate to be acknowledged.
And without even thinking, something soft in me responded to that sight.
My hand moved on instinct.
I gently patted each of their heads in turn, the gesture surprisingly affectionate and natural, as though I had done it countless times before.
The moment I did it, the atmosphere shifted instantly.
Both Lurgard and Lawrence froze completely. It was as if time itself had paused just for them to process what had happened.
For a second, neither of them moved and neither of them spoke.
Just silence.
Then Lawrence finally broke it.
"You always do this whenever we are lost in conversation, Theresa," he said, his voice quieter now, though his gaze remained locked intensely on me.
There was something unreadable in his expression—something that felt like curiosity mixed with expectation.
"Did you recall anything?" he asked.
The question lingered in the air between us.
I paused.
Actually...I didn’t. I couldn’t say I remembered anything specific.
There was no clear memory, no distinct moment I could point to and say, this is why I reacted that way.
And yet...the feeling wasn’t empty, and It wasn’t unfamiliar either. If anything, it felt like something buried deep within me responding on its own, without my permission.
I didn’t fully understand it, but I was becoming more certain of one thing.
I had always been happy around them. Somehow, even without memories, that truth felt solid and perhaps that was what confused me the most.
Because if I truly trusted that feeling...then what did that make them to me?
My thoughts drifted further.
I was lucky.
Strangely, undeniably lucky to have them as my mates.
The realization sat quietly in my chest, heavy but not unpleasant. Still, I hadn’t found the courage to tell them everything.
All three of them.
The truth about the bond and the truth about what I could and couldn’t feel yet.
Because deep down, I feared my wolf wouldn’t be able to withstand the full intensity of the mating bond if it fully awakened all at once.
Right now, I couldn’t fully access my wolf, I couldn’t fully connect to that part of myself and I couldn’t clearly feel the mate pull the way others described it.
It was like something was missing or locked away and because of that uncertainty, I held back.
I also couldn’t fully trust them yet with the welfare of my child.
That responsibility weighed too heavily on me to ignore, so I made a choice...a quiet one—to keep everything buried for now and to set those thoughts aside until I was certain.
"I guess old habits never die," Lurgard said finally, breaking the silence that had settled between us.
His voice came out calm, almost casual, as if he hadn’t just dropped a sentence loaded with meaning into the room.
Then he turned slightly toward me, slowly and deliberately.
A faint, teasing smile formed on his lips as his eyes locked onto mine.
There was something about the way he looked at me that made my chest tighten without warning.
Before I could even process it properly, he leaned in just a little.
Not enough to close the distance completely, but enough to make his presence feel far more intrusive than before.
"Tell me, Theresa," he said, his tone lowering in a way that immediately made my attention snap fully to him.
The softness in his voice contrasted sharply with the boldness of his words.
"Why can’t you recall other intimate things you’ve done with me when we were alone?"
The question hung in the air immediately after he spoke. It hung heavy, loaded and unavoidable.
For a moment, it felt like the entire room had gone still. Even the silence seemed to shift, as though it had thickened around us.
I swallowed hard instantly, my throat suddenly feeling dry and almost immediately, I could feel heat rushing to my face.
It started subtly at first and then spread quickly. Within seconds, my cheeks were burning red, and I knew there was no hiding it, not from him and not from anyone in the room.
I tried to steady my expression, to force my face into something neutral, but it was already too late.
The warmth had betrayed me.
What exactly was wrong with him?
Why would he say something like that so openly?
So casually?
As though it was just another ordinary conversation?
My mind struggled to keep up with the situation, but the more I replayed his words, the worse it became.
Intimate things?
When we were alone?
The phrases echoed in my head repeatedly, making everything feel even more uncomfortable than before.
I exhaled slowly through my nose, trying to regain control of my thoughts, but it wasn’t easy.
Not when he was looking at me like that, not when his expression carried that same teasing confidence, like he already knew the effect his words had on me.
I shifted slightly where I stood, suddenly very aware of my own reaction.
And then my mind, unfortunately, betrayed me at the worst possible moment. I immediately recalled the morning I had found him on my bed.
That single memory flashed vividly in my head.
And my face reddened even further, this time deeper than before.
I quickly looked away, hoping neither of them noticed, but I already knew it was too late.
The atmosphere had changed.
"What’s going on between the both of you?" Lawrence asked suddenly.
His voice was tight, and I noticed the way his fists clenched behind his shorts, as though he was struggling to keep his composure.
But even without him explaining further, I could already sense what was happening—the tension and the shift in his mood, it was all too obvious.
"What do you mean, Lawrence?" Lurgard asked calmly, still not taking his eyes off me.
His focus remained completely on me, as though Lawrence’s presence in the room didn’t matter at all.
That alone made the tension worse.
"Why don’t you just go to your room?" Lurgard continued, his tone still steady but firm. "I have something to discuss with Theresa," he added.
The words were simple, but the intention behind them was clear.
"Hell no!" Lawrence said immediately, as his voice rose slightly, sharper than before. "There is no way I am leaving the two of you alone in this room!" he added, stepping forward just slightly as if to reinforce his refusal.
And this time, Lurgard finally turned away from me. He shifted his full attention onto Lawrence, his expression changing the moment their eyes met.
"What are you acting like this, Lawrence?" Lurgard asked again, his brows furrowing slightly as though he genuinely couldn’t understand the shift in behavior.
His tone carried confusion, but beneath it was something heavier—something closer to disbelief, like he was struggling to accept what he was seeing in front of him.
"You never argue with me in the past... in fact, you always ensure I get whatever I want," he continued, his voice dropping a little as his gaze lingered more carefully on Lawrence.
There was a long, assessing look in his eyes now, as if he was trying to read something deeper in him, something that didn’t quite make sense.
"Why are you...?" he began again.
But he stopped midway, hesitating.
It was as though the rest of the sentence refused to form properly in his mind, like the answer was there but uncomfortable to acknowledge.
The silence that followed stretched thin between them.
But Lawrence didn’t allow it to settle.
"There is no need to make me feel—" Lawrence started, his voice coming out strained and tightly controlled, like each word was being pulled out against his will.
He looked visibly tense now, as his jaw was clenched and his expression hardened.
It was clear he was trying to push through whatever emotion was building inside him, but the sentence never made it to completion.
Before he could finish, I stepped in immediately.
"Enough!" I said sharply.
My voice cut through the space like a blade, instant, firm and unquestionable.
Both of them froze at once, as if the word alone had physically stopped whatever argument was about to unfold.
I stood there, my expression tight, already sensing the direction this conversation was heading.
And I didn’t like it, not at all.
Silence followed immediately after my words. It was heavy, thick and almost suffocating.
For a brief moment, none of us moved and none of us spoke.
It was as though the entire room had been suspended in that single second, waiting for something to break the tension.
And then...right at that exact moment...the door suddenly opened.
