ELLA.

I turned toward the direction of the voice, and my entire body froze.

The moment my eyes landed on him, my breath caught in my throat.

Alex.

He was standing right in front of me.

For a second, I couldn’t even process what I was seeing. My mind went blank as a dozen questions raced through my head at once.

What was he doing here?

And why did he look so furious?

Instinctively, my hand moved to my stomach, shielding it protectively as a wave of unease washed over me.

"What are you doing here, Alex?" I asked impatiently, struggling to keep my voice steady.

But Alex didn’t even spare me a glance.

It was as if I wasn’t there.

His eyes were locked on Michael, burning with a rage so intense that it made my stomach twist.

Without saying a word, he strode past me, his movements were sharp and purposeful.

Before Michael could react, Alex grabbed the front of his shirt and yanked him forward violently.

Michael’s eyes widened in shock.

"Alex!" I gasped.

"How dare you try to covet my wife?" Alex roared.

The fury in his voice echoed through the space, his fingers tightened around Michael’s collar as he shoved him backward.

"Didn’t you see the viral video?" he demanded, his jaw clenched so tightly that the muscles visibly flexed, and his eyes blazed with anger. "She’s a married woman, asshole!"

Michael staggered slightly under the force of Alex’s grip.

"Alex, stop it!" I cried out immediately, as panic surged through me as I rushed toward them. "You are going to kill him!"

But Alex seemed deaf to my words, as his attention remained fixed entirely on Michael.

The veins in his neck stood out prominently as he tightened his grip even further.

Michael struggled against him, his face beginning to lose color, and his breathing became labored.

"Alex!" I shouted again, as fear gripped my chest.

Michael’s face was growing paler by the second.

"Stay aside, Ella!" Alex snapped, his voice harsh and commanding. "I need to teach him a lesson." He added, his eyes never leaving Michael. "So next time he doesn’t go around proposing to people’s wives."

Something inside me finally snapped.

"I am not your wife, Alex!" I screamed at the top of my lungs, the words tearing out of my throat. "Release him now!"

My heart pounded violently against my chest.

I couldn’t take it anymore.

Watching Michael struggle for air while Alex continued squeezing his collar filled me with dread.

If anything happened to Michael because of me...If he got seriously hurt because of this confrontation...I would never be able to forgive myself.

Michael suddenly let out a weak chuckle. The sound was strained and breathless and even in that situation, he was somehow trying to smile.

"I...will not back down..." he managed to say, as his voice came out broken as he struggled to breathe. "Ella is..."

The rest of his words were cut short, as Alex’s grip tightened even further.

A dangerous look flashed across his face.

For a brief moment, the tension became suffocating and then suddenly...Alex released him.

Michael barely had time to catch his breath.

The instant he stumbled forward, Alex’s fist collided with his face.

The punch landed with brutal force and Michael’s head immediately snapped to the side from the impact. Michael staggered backward from the force of the punch.

The impact was so brutal that he nearly lost his footing.

A sharp gasp escaped my lips as I watched him struggle to steady himself.

A second later, he spat blood onto the floor. The crimson stain immediately spread across the surface, making my stomach twist.

The sight alone was enough to show just how hard Alex had hit him.

Michael lifted a trembling hand to his mouth and wiped away the blood, yet despite the injury, a stubborn look remained in his eyes.

Alex stood rigidly in front of him, his chest rising and falling heavily, as his hands were still clenched into fists. The fury radiating from him hadn’t diminished in the slightest.

In fact, it seemed to be growing stronger.

"I don’t need you to back down!" Alex said firmly, his voice dangerously cold while his gaze remained locked on Michael as though he were looking at an enemy. "All I need to do is get rid of you."

The words sent a chill down my spine, and the hostility in his tone made my heart pound harder against my chest.

"Alex!" I shouted at the top of my voice.

My voice echoed through the space and for the first time since he arrived, his attention shifted, his eyes finally met mine.

The anger in them softened ever so slightly.

"Baby, look—" He said, as he took a step toward me.

But I immediately cut him off. "Enough, Alex!" I snapped without hesitation.

The sharpness of my voice made him stop mid-step.

I could feel my emotions boiling over.

My hands trembled at my sides. Whatever sympathy I might have felt moments ago had completely vanished.

"Whatever you are scheming, you better stop it." I stared directly into his eyes, as every word left my mouth with conviction. "Sign those divorce papers and stay away from me."

For a brief second, silence settled between us and then Alex laughed.

The sound caught me completely off guard, as it wasn’t a cheerful laugh, it was one filled with disbelief.

"What divorce papers?" he asked. A faint smirk tugged at the corner of his lips as he took another step closer. "Those papers are invalid."

My brows immediately furrowed,bad confusion washed over me.

Invalid?

What was he talking about?

I stared at him, trying to make sense of his words.

"Didn’t your lawyer contact you?" Alex asked, as he clicked his tongue in annoyance.

Then suddenly, something seemed to occur to him, and his expression shifted, as the amusement vanished.

"Oh, wait." He shad, his eyes narrowed. "You weren’t the one who filed for the divorce?"

The question hung heavily in the air.

A dark look crossed his face, as the realization seemed to hit him all at once.

I remained silent, as I simply stared at him, and that was all the confirmation he needed.

"I knew it." A grin spread across his face, and the confidence in his voice returned instantly. "You wouldn’t divorce me, baby."

Before I could react, he stepped forward and reached for my hands, as though everything was suddenly fine, as though none of this chaos had happened, as though we were still the same people we used to be.

The moment his fingers neared mine, I pulled my hands away immediately. The movement was sharp and deliberate.

The smile on his face faltered.

I stared at him in disbelief, and my patience had completely run out.

"Have you gone mad?" I asked.

The words came out before I could stop them, harsh, direct and unforgiving.

For the first time since he arrived, Alex looked genuinely stunned.

His hand remained suspended in midair and the confidence disappeared from his face, as he stood frozen.
