"A car!"

The whole factory was overjoyed to have a car. Everyone gathered around it, circling it again and again. They wanted to touch it but didn’t dare, only getting close enough to look.

Xie Changning stepped out of the car, a slight smile on her face.

"What’s everyone gathered here for?"

Xie Changning’s face was full of mirth as she spoke, causing many of the workers to blush.

They stammered that they just wanted to see the car.

"If you want to look, then have a good look! You’re not going to break it by touching it."

Xie Changning’s encouragement got everyone excited. They all started to touch the car, but not without asking the driver what they should be careful of. "Are you sure we won’t break it?"

After the driver told them not to touch the more fragile parts, the workers swarmed the car, three layers deep, to get a better look.

They only left reluctantly when it was time to get back to work.

But their spirits were high. Their factory had a car now!

When she got to her office, she found Wang Guofu and the other vice director plastered to the window, watching. Both were too concerned with their dignity to go down and touch the car like the other workers, so they could only watch furtively from their office.

They were so absorbed they didn’t even notice Xie Changning had returned.

They were watching so intently.

"Is the car nice to look at?" Xie Changning sidled up to the two of them, teasing.

Without thinking, Wang Guofu replied, "It’s beautiful! How could it not be?" After he spoke, both of them came to their senses. Who was talking in their office?

They turned their heads and saw Xie Changning’s smiling face.

The two of them: "...When did you get back, Factory Director? Hahahaha, what fine weather we’re having today."

They tacitly agreed to look at the sky, look at the ground—anywhere but at Xie Changning.

Xie Changning knew they were embarrassed. She stifled a laugh. "Alright, alright. Look all you want. We’ll be riding in this car whenever we go out from now on!"

"Of course. The car belongs to our factory, so you certainly have the right to ride in it!" Xie Changning nodded, which only made their expressions more excited.

It wasn’t that they had never ridden in a car before, but they had never ridden in their own factory’s car!

When she got home that evening, she even ate an extra bowl of rice.

Xie Changning loved chicken and potato stew, but she would specifically pick out the potatoes that had been stewed until they were tender and mash them into her rice with the broth.

"Why aren’t you eating any meat?"

"Aunties, don’t you know? The broth is the best part!" Xie Changning explained herself.

They both knew Xie Changning was from Shanghai and that there were regional differences. They exchanged a look, then glanced at Xie Changning dubiously. "Is that so?"

"It is!"

Xie Changning nodded with a straight face.

’Everything I said was the truth!’

Aunt Wang always felt that Xie Changning wasn’t quite so honest, but she figured if she wanted to eat that way, let her. They could just save the meat for Little Yue.

"Little Yue said he was coming back today. How come he’s not back yet?"

"Hm?"

Wiping her mouth, Xie Changning realized for the first time that Yue Yihan was coming back today.

She craned her neck to look outside, but the courtyard was quiet and nothing was happening. "He’s a grown man, we don’t need to wait for him. If he hasn’t eaten, Auntie, just keep his food warm in the pot."

"Yue Yihan, are you crazy? I came here out of the kindness of my heart to see you and your wife, and I wanted to visit the two children. Why are you arresting me?!"

Yu Huo’s voice was not quiet, and lights began to flick on in many of the houses that had already gone dark.

Yue Yihan felt no guilt whatsoever. He shot Yu Huo a cold glare, grabbed the back of her collar, and started walking away. "You came to visit? What decent person pays a visit in the middle of the night?"

Yue Yihan dragged Yu Huo to the Anong County police station.

Once they arrived at the station, Yu Huo was like a cat with its fur on end. "I had to walk here because there were no cars! Are you insane?!"

"Couldn’t you have come tomorrow? What’s the rush?"

Yue Yihan’s counter-question made Yu Huo freeze.

She was indeed in a rush. She wanted to get her hands on the core technology of Xie Changning’s printer!

Unfortunately, Yue Yihan treasured Xie Changning like she was the most precious thing in the world and gave her no opportunities, which infuriated her.
