Konohagakure - Hokage Building, Corridor
The door to the Hokage’s office had barely closed behind him when a figure emerged from the shadows of the corridor.
"Lord Danzo."
The Root operative had been waiting, patient, and perfectly still, the way all of Danzo’s agents were trained to be. A young boy, no older than a genin, but with the composure of someone who had long since had the luxury of childhood stripped away.
"Have them make their move."
"Yes, sir."
The boy already knew who Danzo was referring to. That was the nature of Root, information flowed on a need-to-know basis, and those who served Danzo always seemed to know exactly what was needed.
The operative vanished as quietly as he had appeared.
’Any threat to Konoha, no matter how small, no matter how distant, must be cut down before it has the chance to grow.’
That had always been his philosophy. The roots of a great tree didn’t wait for disease to spread before acting. They strangled it in the soil.
It was no secret, at least not to Danzō himself, that Hiruzen Sarutobi’s position as Hokage was unshakable. That battle had been lost years ago. The village had chosen its leader, and no amount of ambition could undo that.
But that didn’t mean Danzō intended to fade into irrelevance.
He would prove to the council that, his methods were just as essential to Konoha’s survival. That his judgment, his decisiveness, his willingness to operate in the spaces where Hiruzen’s idealism couldn’t reach, all of it was indispensable.
Danzo’s intelligence network was extensive, and little happened across the continent’s battlefields without eventually reaching his ears.
He knew the details of the border clash between Amegakure and Sunagakure six months ago with surgical precision. He knew because Hanzo the Salamander had made sure he knew.
The leader of the Hidden Rain was a calculating man. He’d deliberately fed wartime intelligence to Konoha through back channels, not out of goodwill, but out of strategy. Hanzo wanted the flames between Konoha and Sunagakure to burn hotter. The more those two bled each other dry, the better it served his interests.
Danzo understood the game perfectly. And Hanzo knew that he understood, because Root’s existence guaranteed that Konoha would always receive the "message," regardless of what official diplomatic channels did or didn’t report. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
It was an unspoken arrangement between two men who operated in the same kind of darkness.
Among the intelligence Hanzo had passed along, two names stood out.
’Two geniuses of Sunagakure.’
The first was Sasori, grandson of Lady Chiyo, already making a name for himself on the battlefield as a prodigy of terrifying potential.
The second was Yuji, a descendant of Suna’s civilian-born shinobi. A medical ninja.
At first, Danzo had barely given the second name a thought.
In the grand scope of the war, the impact of Sunagakure’s sudden troop recovery was real but limited. The wounded shinobi who had been patched up and sent back to the front lines gave Suna a temporary boost in morale, but strategically, it changed nothing about the war’s trajectory.
Hanzo was a smart man. He could see that Konoha’s foundation, its depth of talent, its resources, its resilience, would ultimately carry it to victory. The Sand couldn’t match that. Not in a prolonged war of attrition.
But the people of Sunagakure couldn’t see it. Or wouldn’t.
They were still committed to fighting to the bitter end.
’Foolish.’
Danzō had filed both names away with the same cold efficiency he applied to everything. Sasori. Yuji. Suna’s rising generation. Eliminate when convenient.
But then the reports kept coming.
Yuji, the one who had seemed almost inconspicuous compared to Sasori, had begun revealing a medical talent that went far beyond what anyone had anticipated. The speed of Suna’s casualty recovery, the efficiency of their field treatment, the morale boost rippling through their ranks, more and more of it traced back to a single nine-year-old.
Was Yuji an existential threat to Konoha? No. Not yet.
But Danzō Shimura did not wait for threats to become existential.
Even the faintest spark, left unattended, could become a wildfire.
"Just a medical ninja..."
Danzō’s thoughts turned as he walked the dim corridors of Root’s underground compound, his footsteps echoing against stone.
’The intelligence Hanzō passed along was clearly curated. That man is as calculating as ever, he highlighted what he wanted me to see and buried what he didn’t.’
His eye narrowed.
’But the core information is sound. Sunagakure’s leadership is focused on the front lines. Their attention is outward, on Konoha, on Iwagakure, on surviving. They would never expect something to happen right under their noses.’
’Sometimes... the darkness closest to you is the most dangerous of all.’
The coldness in his gaze deepened.
Sunagakure, Several Days Later, Night
The desert air had cooled to something almost pleasant by the time Yuji finally dragged himself through the door of his small apartment and collapsed onto his bed.
He lay there for a long moment, staring at the cracked ceiling, letting the tension in his shoulders unwind one knot at a time.
The past weeks had been relentless. Between the hospital restructuring, the constant stream of injured shinobi cycling through recovery, and the sheer administrative chaos of implementing new treatment protocols on the fly, he’d barely had time to breathe.
But it was done. Or at least, the worst of it was. The temporary changes at the hospital had finally stabilized, and the system he’d put in place was running smoothly enough to function without him hovering over every detail.
He could rest.
For now.
Yuji raised one hand toward the ceiling and called up the system interface. The familiar translucent panel materialized in his vision, glowing faintly in the dark room.
Host: Yuji
Identity: Sunagakure Genin (Medical Ninja)
Age: 9
Stored Positive Experience Points (Saving): 13
Stored Negative Experience Points (Killing): 469
Exchanged Items & Abilities:
Kuroo’s Medical Notes and Insights - Comprehensive medical knowledge archive
Special Scalpel (Origin: Black Jack) - Precision surgical instrument
Acquired Medical Ninjutsu:
Yin Healing Wound Destruction (A-Rank) - Pre-emptive healing technique. By anticipating the point of impact before an attack lands and concentrating chakra at the targeted location, the wound regenerates automatically upon being struck.
Mystical Palm Technique (A-Rank) - Accelerated cellular activation at the wound site. Under standard conditions, injuries can be fully healed within minutes.
Delicate Illness Extraction Technique (B-Rank) - Advanced procedure for extracting or transplanting toxins and organs with surgical precision.
Healing Resuscitation Regeneration Technique (A-Rank) - Multi-medic cooperative technique. Utilizes the patient’s own cellular material to repair extensive wounds. Requires sustained concentration over a prolonged period; participating medical ninja must rotate in shifts to maintain chakra reserves.
Chakra Scalpel (A-Rank) - Concentrates chakra into the hands to form an invisible blade capable of cutting internal tissue without leaving external wounds. Range can be extended at will. With sufficient medical knowledge, it doubles as a close-combat weapon.
Body Pathway Derangement (A-Rank) - Converts chakra into electrical impulses that interfere with the brain’s signals to the body, scrambling the target’s motor control and rendering them unable to move properly.
Attachment Line - Allows the user to fix silk threads to anchor points, enabling remote control of thrown blades for precision strikes.
Cutting Knives Death Waltz - A thread-based assassination technique using finger-controlled silk lines that are nearly impossible to detect. Can also bind threads to throwing knives for long-range manipulation.
(Origin: Belphegor, Katekyo Hitman Reborn!)
Yuji dismissed the interface and stared at the ceiling.
"General medical ninjutsu are almost all accounted for now," he murmured, half to himself. "Next time I spend positive points, it’ll be S-rank techniques. Maybe even forbidden-level."
He folded his arms behind his head and ran through the math in his mind.
The abilities he’d pulled from the system weren’t limited to techniques native to this world. The thread arts proved that much. But ninjutsu still held a particular value. They were the original power source of this world, woven into its foundations. Mastering them meant operating within the rules that everyone around him understood and respected.
And that mattered. Especially for what he was building toward.
So he’d spent everything. Every positive experience point earned from the border missions, every scrap accumulated from months of grueling hospital work, all of it converted into raw capability.
The four newest additions to his medical arsenal were Yin Healing Wound Destruction, Delicate Illness Extraction Technique, Healing Resuscitation Regeneration Technique, and Body Pathway Derangement. Each one filled a gap. Each one made him harder to kill and more dangerous to face.
Which left his balance looking... lopsided.
Positive points: nearly drained.
Negative points: 469. Far, far ahead.
He closed his eyes and mapped out the next phase.
If he kept accumulating positive points at this pace, the next tier of exchanges would open up the techniques he actually wanted. Creation Rebirth. The Hundred Healings Technique. The Yin Seal.
Those three would push his medical capabilities into territory that only a handful of people in the entire shinobi world could match.
He’d already ruled out the rest.
The Kekkei Genkai technique Dragon Life Reincarnation and Chiyo’s One’s Own Life Reincarnation both had undeniable power. Resurrection-level healing. The ability to bring back the dead. But both came with the same fatal catch.
The user dies.
Yuji had no interest in techniques that required him to trade his life for someone else’s. Not because he was selfish. But because dying wasn’t part of the plan.
As for the rest of Tsunade’s catalog, most of her advanced techniques required her summoning beast, Katsuyu, to function. And purchasing a summoning contract through the system meant paying for the creature itself on top of the technique. The cost was absurd. Completely impractical.
So the roadmap was clear. Learn the Hundred Healings suite, and his acquisition of medical power from the Naruto world would be essentially complete. At that point, his ninjutsu configuration alone would place him among the top medical ninja in history.
Combined with his non-native abilities...
Yuji allowed himself a small, quiet smile in the dark.
Perfect.
And going forward, spending the same points on abilities from other worlds would give him far more bang for his buck.
"Still..." he muttered, his voice barely above a whisper. "The points from the hospital are terrible."
It was the fundamental inefficiency he couldn’t escape. No matter how many patients he treated, no matter how many lives he saved, the positive experience points trickled in like water from a cracked pipe. Months of exhausting work for a handful of points.
The math didn’t lie.
For someone like him, the battlefield was the optimal solution.
Yuji exhaled slowly and let his mind shift from the system to the bigger picture.
The second step of his plan was nearly complete.
He’d made himself indispensable to Sunagakure’s medical infrastructure. He’d earned the trust and admiration of the villagers. He’d built a reputation not just as a prodigy, but as someone the village needed. The kind of person whose absence would be felt immediately.
All of that mattered.
But it wasn’t enough.
This was the shinobi world. Influence earned through service and goodwill could carry you far, but there was a ceiling. Political respect, civilian admiration, institutional value... none of it meant anything if someone stronger decided to take what was yours.
Kage wasn’t just a title. It was a declaration. A statement that said: I am the strongest here, and no one can dispute it.
To reach that level, he needed more than medical genius and a good reputation.
He needed raw, undeniable power. The kind that shut mouths and closed arguments.
"When Sasori gets back," Yuji said softly, a grin tugging at the corner of his mouth, "I’ll head out with him."
That idiot probably still thought Yuji had been sitting around in the village getting soft. Wasting his potential. Losing his edge.
If only he knew.
Every day Sasori spent grinding on the battlefield, Yuji had been grinding in his own way. Quieter. Less visible. But no less relentless. The system purchases alone represented a massive investment, one that had fundamentally reshaped his combat toolkit from the ground up.
The more he earned, the more he spent. And every point converted into something tangible. Something he could feel in his hands, in his reflexes, in the way his chakra moved.
There was something almost addictive about it. Watching yourself get stronger in real time, measured and quantified, laid out in clean numbers on a glowing interface.
But Yuji never let himself forget the other side of that equation.
Every point on that ledger had been earned the hard way.
With his life on the line.
