- Chapter 1: In The Distant Seas
During the five days that Zaliah was working on the ship, Petyr, Kruger, and Silius were spending their time gathering any necessary information they could about the island and the second ocean.
They managed to come to a great discovery, which was that the Gate Sea was set to open again in roughly seven days. That meant that the pathway to the third sea would open up, and sea creatures would flood into the second ocean.
Although they had no intentions of using this opportunity, as they believed they weren’t yet ready, Roseus took careful note of this.
This was because in just two days, they would be setting out to sea with the Templars to take down the Navy Commander, Chestnut.
As Roseus sat on the railing of the Armegeddon, he checked his treasures to make sure that everything was ready.
His revolver was sufficiently loaded with the Monochrome bullet, and Bloody Fingers was filled with enough blood to heal him. He couldn’t use the Ring of Unfavourability, as they were not currently out at sea, and his father’s cutlass had been discarded for the time being and replaced with the Greycloud Longsword.
As he finished checking himself, he stared up at the mountain range. At the nearest peak, which was also the smallest, was where he was preparing to travel.
Zaliah had told him that this location was called Thunderpoint, as it was where lightning struck hardest.
During the five days that passed, Roseus intentionally used the Greycloud Longsword to slay a creature so that he could hear more of Rai’zac’s rants.
This time, the sea god spoke, directing the words towards him: the wielder of the Greycloud Longsword.
[Our temporary pact can be extended]
These were the words that it said to him.
Due to his previous experience with sea gods, Roseus was, of course, sceptical.
He responded and asked Rai’zac what the terms would be, and the sea god explained.
They could extend their contract until they both achieved their most immediate goal, which was to make it into the third ocean.
However, Roseus knew that this was not an equivalent exchange. Rai’zac was asking for help to get past the sea god, Susanoo, who was preventing him from entering the third sea. This was a huge ask.
So Rai’zac said he would give another offering. He told Roseus to head to Thunderpoint during the nighttime when the thunderstorms happened, and there, he would be given a gift that would surely make things worth it.
This only made Roseus more dubious, which was when Rai’zac did something surprising. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
He gifted Roseus a temporary power that would make him immune to thunder creatures that were a product of Rai’zac’s thunderstorms. This would last 24 hours.
After consulting with his crew, they decided that the risks were incredibly high. However, from the look in their captain’s eyes, they could tell that his curiosity was very high. The decision was ultimately up to him.
He decided that he would travel to Thunderpoint that night.
...
As the sun began to set and the skies became cloudy and gray, the dockyard town became silent.
No one dared to roam the streets as the land darkened, afraid of the creatures that would be born from the thunderstorms.
They barricaded their windows, drew their curtains, and locked their doors.
However, through the gaps in the planks, many of them saw a lone figure walking across the pavement. He had long red hair, wore a black trench coat and pantaloons, as well as a golden-black longsword on his back.
It was none other than that new pirate mentioned in the Fresh Bounty Weekly papers!
Is he crazy? They asked themselves. They knew he was clearly powerful, as he was the son of that famous captain; however, daring to be out at night was not something that was safe for anybody, let alone a rookie.
A journalist began to write this down, as he knew even the neighbouring cities would find the death of such a pirate interesting.
He wanted to be the first to document the details surrounding this pirate’s death.
...
By the time he reached the foot of the main path, nighttime had arrived, and the first bolt of lightning struck the land.
Following this, there was another, then another.
Ten minutes into his walk up the path, which travelled into the side of the mountain rather than the main path with a staircase, the lightning was striking every ten seconds.
Roseus felt his heart racing, and his hand constantly reaching for both of his weapons.
Rai’zac... This gift better be worth it.
...
He made it halfway up the mountain before he first came face to face with danger.
A bolt of lightning crashed only ten meters away from him, making him jump and almost tumble down the steep mountain face. Luckily, he managed to maintain his balance.
After taking a deep breath and composing himself, he looked towards the place where the bolt had struck to see the damage.
Instead of seeing just damage, further danger awaited too.
Five figures appeared, standing in the crater that the bolt had created.
The best way that they could be described was that they were remnants of the lightning bolt. They did not have any humanoid body parts, but rather resembled bolts of golden light that hovered above the ground.
Still, it was clear they had some sort of sentience, as they seemed to position themselves facing Roseus.
These are the creatures created by Rai’zac’s lightning? What in the eight oceans...
Just as he had that thought, he noticed that the bolts’ golden light grew brighter and brighter. This was followed by a great vibrating sound.
Wait... Are they—
Suddenly, five bolts of lightning struck from the storm creatures! They travelled too fast for Roseus to have any chance of dodging or defending himself from the strike.
His body involuntarily tensed up right before the five bolts struck him. He found himself enveloped by a light so great that he could see nothing surrounding him.
Then afterwards, the light simply dispersed painlessly...
He was completely unaffected by the creatures’ attacks, just as Rai’zac had promised.
