First Night with the Army: The Stoic Big Shot Is Done Pretending

"What’s wrong? Did your wife make you wear it?"

"No."

The commissar furrowed his brow, thinking the couple had fought last night over Zhao Dongmei. He quickly pressed, "Then what happened? Did you two argue last night?"

"The condoms the unit issued... I can’t use them."

The commissar was speechless.

Hearing this, his gaze uncontrollably darted downward. He and his wife didn’t have kids yet, but since she was career-focused, she made him wear one every time.

In the military, following orders was paramount.

Huo Jingyuan’s eyes narrowed slightly. Looking at the commissar, he hadn’t expected to piss the man off with just a few words. A faint smile touched his lips. "Are you serious? You really want me to run?"

"Who the hell do you think is joking with you? Run!"

Immediately, Huo Jingyuan put his hands on his hips and fell in with his regiment to start running.

The soldiers in the regiment were stunned for a moment to see Boss Huo running with them, then they all burst out laughing. "Even Boss Huo has days like this?!"

Hearing their laughter, Huo Jingyuan lowered his gaze. Regulating his breathing, he said, "During Devil’s Week, I’ll show you what ’a day like this’ really means."

At the mention of Devil’s Week, the men who had been laughing at Huo Jingyuan immediately lowered their heads and quickened their pace. "We didn’t say anything. We said nothing at all."

Wen Ci lay sprawled on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. Her entire body felt like it had been run over by a truck. Hips aching, back sore, she let out a long sigh.

After resting in bed for nearly twenty minutes, she sat up and leaned against the headboard. Out of the corner of her eye, she glimpsed that unused item from last night on the nightstand.

The image of him failing to put it on last night suddenly flashed through her mind.

Her face visibly flushed.

Her mind couldn’t help but wander.

Wen Ci patted her cheeks, trying to shake those ’dirty’ thoughts from her head. ’Stop thinking about it, just stop!’ she told herself.

Once the heat in her face subsided, she got out of bed, went into the living room, sat down on the armchair, and used the landline to call the hospital’s duty office.

Going to work was out of the question with the way she was walking.

So, she wanted to take this opportunity to go to Sea City with Doctor Yu to have the costumes for the Water Sleeve Dance made.

"Are there any extra doctors on duty today?" Wen Ci asked.

Normally, the hospital had doctors on their scheduled day off waiting in the lounge in case of an emergency, which was why Wen Ci had to ask first.

"Yes, there are," the duty office replied.

Wen Ci smiled and said, "In that case, could you ask Doctor Yu if she can take the day off? We’d like to take the eight o’clock bus to Sea City."

"One moment." A moment later, the person from the duty office replied, "Nurse Wen, Doctor Yu says she’ll wait for you at the family housing complex in a bit."

"Okay." Wen Ci paused, then asked, "Is there anything you all need me to bring back?"
