- Chapter 1: The Author Is Dead. Long Live the Author.
The complaints died before they could fully form.
That was academy law.
Luna looked toward Logan quietly, and Logan gave her a small nod in return.
"Which location do you decide to fight each other? And what time?" Selene asked with a faint smile.
Normally, students didn’t need to select a specific location. They could simply choose another area to fight instead.
The battle itself lasted an entire day, and once the twenty four hours from the issued challenge expired, another student would then be allowed to challenge them.
Luna gave Logan a brief glance before speaking.
"The forest outskirts."
Selene stared at the two for a moment, then nodded once.
"Approved."
The holographic display above instantly paired their names together, the two names silently turning grey.
Kaizen stared at the sight, his fist clenching slightly.
He had been considering challenging Logan himself.
Now that plan had to be postponed.
Neither Logan nor Luna wasted time afterward.
They left immediately, heading toward the forest with light, quiet steps.
The atmosphere between them remained silent as they moved deeper into the woods, farther away from the academy grounds.
School was over for today.
The distant sounds of students and instructors gradually faded behind them until eventually only the wind moving through the trees remained.
Finally, Luna stopped walking.
Logan slowed to a halt as well before smiling slightly.
"It seems you got my message clearly."
Luna pulled out the folded piece of paper and furrowed her brows faintly.
"Why did you ask me to challenge you?"
While they were inside the Origin Gate simulation, Luna had suddenly felt a piece of paper appear in her hand.
After reading its contents, she had been stunned.
Logan had asked her to challenge him before anyone else could.
Just those simple words.
Yet because of the strange curiosity she already felt toward him, she had hesitated for a long time before finally agreeing.
Luna studied him silently.
Was he perhaps planning to quit so the attention surrounding him would disappear?
If that was the case...
She quickly pushed the thought away.
She didn’t think Logan was the kind of person who hid from battles. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
"I need your help with something," Logan finally said, pulling her thoughts back.
Luna froze slightly, one eyebrow lifting.
"You need my help?"
Logan nodded.
She paused before asking, "What is it about?"
Logan’s gaze drifted toward the distant academy walls barely visible beyond the trees.
"Infiltration."
Luna’s eyes narrowed.
For the first time since meeting him, genuine curiosity surfaced across her face.
"You’re trying to steal something."
Logan didn’t deny it.
"I need your ability."
Silence stretched between them for a brief moment.
Eventually, Luna crossed her arms lightly before speaking again.
"You’re surprisingly honest."
"There’s no point lying now."
That answer drew a soft laugh from her.
Small.
But real.
"What makes you think I’ll agree to join you in your... act? We could be killed if we’re caught."
Logan looked directly into her eyes and smiled faintly.
Most people would have been cornered by those words.
But Logan was different.
"In return, I’ll help you find the dragon heart fruit."
"What?"
This time it was Luna’s turn to be visibly shocked.
"How did you know about that?"
Logan remained silent.
Seeing he had no intention of answering, Luna gradually fell quiet as well.
Her gaze lingered on him longer than necessary.
Finally, she spoke.
"So what exactly is the plan?"
Clearly, she had agreed.
For the dragon heart fruit, she was willing to take the risk.
She couldn’t allow her mother, the only person she had left, to die.
"Let’s head back deeper into the forest toward your dorm room while we talk. We’ll move out tonight."
"It’s just going to be the two of us?" Luna asked, showing no reaction to the idea of Logan staying in her dorm for the night.
"Yes."
He nodded while she led the way through the forest.
As they continued walking beneath the trees, Logan finally began explaining the plan.
Not everything.
Just enough.
The academy treasury couldn’t be breached through force.
It required avoiding detection entirely.
Perception.
Observation.
Spatial awareness.
The academy’s surveillance systems were built to detect fluctuations, movement, even presence itself.
But Luna’s invisibility ability created gaps within perception.
That was what Logan needed.
Not brute force.
A blind spot.
The two soon arrived at her dorm room, and their discussion deepened further.
Fortunately, Logan didn’t need to worry about being spied on directly. The academy had been designed specifically to prevent that.
Staff weren’t allowed to observe students during their private moments, meaning there were no cameras inside the dormitories.
That alone removed one of the academy’s greatest advantages.
Still, Logan remained cautious.
The academy itself was filled with terrifying individuals.
Just because there were no cameras didn’t mean there weren’t other methods of observation.
The moment they stepped inside Luna’s dorm room, Logan’s eyes quietly swept across the surroundings.
Clean.
Minimalistic.
Barely any decorations were present aside from a few neatly stacked books near the bed and a silver lamp resting beside the window.
It suited Luna strangely well.
Quiet.
Unassuming.
Easy to overlook.
Luna walked toward the small kitchen area before glancing back at him.
"You can sit."
Logan gave a slight nod before taking a seat near the window.
Silence gradually settled over the room afterward.
For a while, only the faint sound of boiling water filled the space.
Then Luna suddenly spoke without turning toward him.
"You still haven’t explained how you know about the dragon heart fruit."
Logan leaned back slightly against the chair.
"That answer won’t help you."
Luna frowned faintly.
"You always talk like this?"
"Like what?"
"As though you already know everything."
A small smile touched Logan’s face at that.
"If I knew everything, I wouldn’t need your help."
That response made Luna pause for a moment.
A few seconds later, she walked over and placed a cup in front of him before quietly sitting across from him.
The tension between them no longer felt as sharp as earlier.
Perhaps because both of them already understood there was no point hiding things anymore.
Luna rested her chin lightly against one hand.
"So tell me honestly."
"How dangerous is this?"
Logan stayed silent for several seconds.
Then finally,
"Very."
There was no hesitation in his answer.
No false reassurance.
Luna’s expression grew more serious afterward.
"And yet you still want to do it."
"Yes."
"Why?"
This time Logan’s gaze drifted toward the academy faintly visible beyond the distant window.
"The thing inside there..."
His voice lowered slightly.
"...is worth the risk."
Luna quietly watched him as he spoke.
The strange part was that she could tell he genuinely believed it.
Not greed.
Not recklessness.
Certainty.
As though whatever rested inside that treasury mattered more to him than the danger surrounding it.
Eventually, she exhaled softly.
"Then explain everything carefully."
And so Logan did.
The discussion lasted far longer than either of them expected.
He explained the patrol timings he remembered.
The likely blind spots.
The possible treasury routes.
The academy’s internal structure.
What surprised Luna most wasn’t the plan itself.
It was the fact Logan understood the academy far too well for someone who had only recently arrived.
Several times she nearly interrupted to question him again.
But every time she looked into his eyes, she stopped herself.
Because she already knew she wouldn’t receive an answer.
Hours gradually slipped by.
At some point, the moon had fully risen outside.
Beyond the dormitory windows, the academy grounds had grown noticeably quieter as students slowly returned to their rooms after finishing their first day.
Meanwhile, the timer inside Logan’s vision continued ticking downward without pause.
[03:41:12]
Less than four hours remained now.
Luna noticed his gaze pause several times before finally asking,
"You’re worried about time?"
"A little."
"That important?"
"Yes."
His answer came instantly this time, catching Luna slightly off guard.
She stared at him quietly for a moment before eventually rising from the bed.
"Then we should stop wasting it."
Logan nodded.
The two quickly finalized the remaining details before leaving the dormitory together not long afterward.
