Infiltrating through the secret passage practically handed the glory to them on a platter.

"Vice Director Ruan..." Yu Yong opened his mouth, wanting to argue his case.

But as if reading his mind, a low voice came from the communication module, calmly asking, "Captain Yu, do you feel something is wrong?"

The voice carried an undeniable authority, and the atmosphere inside the command vehicle grew strangely quiet.

Yang Wangtao watched the men opposite him in silence. He could see the derisive glint in Captain Wang’s eyes, and Ruan Hui, standing right beside him, wore a smug, self-assured smile.

The first officer who fell saw through their ploy. He knew this was a deliberate tactic by Qiu Shan’s gang and shouted through clenched teeth, fighting back the pain.

But how could the other officers leave a man behind?

Soon, an officer with a riot shield advanced, braving a hail of machine-gun fire to try and pull them to safety.

But just then...

BANG!!

A single bullet shot out, tearing through the downed officer’s head.

Blood splattered, and the man’s eyes instantly glazed over.

Frothy brain matter and crimson blood stained the riot shield.

"Go ahead, open fire if you’ve got the guts! Let’s see then if you still care about the hostages in here!"

The voice echoed, and the Patrol Department officers clenched their fists, their faces contorted with rage.

Murderous intent filled some of their faces, and they wanted to charge into the factory heedless of the danger, only to be held back by their comrades.

"Those bastards!"

Veins popped on Chen Xiao’s forehead, his face flushed with rage.

More brazen taunts echoed from inside the factory, punctuated by the faint cries of a little girl.

The families near the convoy had long since been escorted away, but despite that, the officers’ fists were clenched, their eyes blazing with fury, and their faces were thunderous.

Finally, a sound came from the direction of the command vehicle.

The sealed door was pulled open, and Lu Chao saw Yang Wangtao approaching at a brisk pace, his expression grave.

Soon, they were informed of the plan.

Their expressions varied, but a chill went through each of them as they instinctively glanced toward the second squad.

They saw Ruan Hui flash a smug grin before gearing up and leading his men away.

Qian Hu and his men, a couple of steps behind, cast sidelong glances at them, one after another revealing mocking, triumphant sneers.

"Damn it."

Chen Xiao’s fists tightened, his face a mask of bitter resentment.

Anyone with eyes could see they were being used as stepping stones to deliver the glory right to Ruan Hui’s lap.

Yang Wangtao silently shook his head, raising a hand to pat him gently on the shoulder.

Amidst a flurry of rustling movement,

several figures melted into the night shadows, silently following Ruan Hui and Captain Wang toward the nearest entrance to the secret underground passage.

Meanwhile, Lu Chao and his men were regrouped and ordered to create a frontal diversion and attempt a breakthrough.

The starkly different assignments made many of the officers’ expressions turn grim, but they couldn’t argue. Even if they reported it later, the orders were technically sound.

Taking all of this in, Lu Chao narrowed his eyes.

He tilted his head and looked back toward the factory.

The arrogant shouts once again echoed through the night sky.

"You Patrol Department mutts."

"If you’ve got the balls, come and kill me!!"
