A Hitman's Guide To Becoming A Hero

Dana watched as the medic quickly rushed into the room, placing an oxygen mask over Bolt’s face and quickly taking him out of the room.

’He actually fainted?’ Selena thought, surprised as she saw the medic take Bolt out of the room, and it left her even more confused.

How exactly could a newbie hero who didn’t even have an idea what his ability was defeat a B-rank hero?!

Her gaze once again shifted to Dana, who was probably the only one with her right now who had answers to her questions.

Dana glanced at Selena, seeing the confused look printed on her face. ’...I’m sure I would’ve been just as surprised if he didn’t tell me what he wanted to do...’ Dana thought as a sigh escaped her lips.

"He asked me to release argon gas into the room once the fight started."

Selena squinted her eyes. "But argon isn’t poisonous?"

"That’s what I thought at first, and yes, it isn’t poisonous... However, with just enough of it in an enclosed room, it displaces oxygen in the air, and every breath will also clear your body of any available oxygen."

Selena’s gaze widened in realization.

"Since it’s not poisonous in any way, your body is fed with the false illusion that you’re breathing while you’re silently suffocating.... For a speedster like Bolt, to run as fast as he does, his body eats up twice as much oxygen as a normal human to exert such speed. Doing that while suffocating is a death sentence."

As Dana explained, Selena couldn’t help but be shocked. ’He assessed his opponent and knew the perfect counter for their ability?’

"But how come he wasn’t affected by the lack of oxygen as well?" Selena asked, still finding it hard to believe her ears.

"The fight ended in approximately 10 seconds. That’s too little time for someone to actually be affected by lack of oxygen, especially when they aren’t performing any strenuous activity."

"Simply put, it wasn’t poisonous until he took his first step. Without any air in his body, the newbie didn’t even have to raise a finger," Dana explained, letting out an amused chuckle. "That newbie is truly something."

Selena stood in absolute shock.

As Nicholas walked out of the room, the medics ran past him, and without wasting any time, they carried Bolt out with them.

He dragged in a deep breath, filling his lungs as he casually slid his hands into his pockets, waiting for Selena and Dana.

Just then, a notification popped up in front of him.

Nicholas couldn’t help but let out a disappointed sigh seeing the comments from the system, but more than anything, he was more curious....

’I got charm points? Where did they come from?’ He had yet to fully understand the mechanics of the system, and it seemed like something ripped straight out of a fantasy world. To him, he didn’t feel like he had done anything particularly outstanding.

He didn’t let his thoughts linger on the source of the Charm Points, though. The good thing was that he already had them. He’d initially thought he’d never get one since he wasn’t the type to work out in the open for people’s admiration.

After all, a hitman always worked with secrecy.

’If I remember correctly, it can be distributed to my stats? How does something like that work? Will I just feel stronger?’ he thought to himself. The concept of suddenly becoming stronger was uncommon to him since he had worked hard enough to groom his body into the perfect battle machine in his previous life.

Sadly, he didn’t have such a physique anymore, but he wasn’t sure how the system was meant to work, and he found it strange and was rather curious.

’I should test it,’ he thought as he called up his status window once more.

’This body is significantly weak. If I took a punch, I wouldn’t survive, so I’ll toss the charm points into strength.’ With his thoughts, all ten charm points were quickly added to the strength tab.

He waited to feel any changes, and he could feel a slight tingle in his body, but before he could focus more on it, the door by the side pulled open with Selena and Dana stepping out.

Selena looked straight at him, her face calm and professional. The previous look of annoyance and disgust, although not completely gone, was less noticeable.

"You surprised me, I’ll give you that," Selena said with a sigh as she stepped out.

"That was impressive. It seems your plan worked out perfectly," Dana complimented first, her eyes glinting with amusement as she saw him.

"So about the $60,000?" Nicholas asked calmly, unbothered by their awe.

’He’s still so unbearable... But I guess he’s proven himself, so he’s not all mouth.’ Genuinely, she wasn’t sure she would’ve been able to pull off what Nicholas did.

Dealing with a B-rank hero wasn’t easy, especially speedsters who had the benefit of time on their side, but more than that... she was also slightly... worried. "Yes, about the $60,000," Selena said with a slow, even tone, an awkward smile cutting across her face.

"Okay, I should be leaving... I’ll let you handle the rest, Supervisor Selena." Dana quickly said, rushing out of the scene.

Selena’s lips parted, but the voice never left her throat. ’Dana, you sly fox! Come back here and help me out... How could I have known the boob brat was a smart ass?!’ Selena cursed inwardly before taking a slow, deep breath.

"We have to meet the manager. He’s the one who will then approve of your request," Selena said with a wry smile.

"Alright, let’s meet the manager," Nicholas said calmly.

Selena felt cold sweat drop down her face. ’What do I tell Sir Eric? There’s no way he’s throwing $60k to a newbie?!’

"Alright, alright, let’s go! Haha." An awkward laugh slipped from her mouth as she led the way.

Her thoughts were in turmoil. She could only hope that the manager would be just as impressed as they were with Nicholas, or things wouldn’t end up the way they expected.

’How would he react?’ Selena thought, stealing a peep at Nicholas, who was following straight behind her with an unreadable expression.
