- Chapter 1: Ian
At eight o’clock sharp, Alevia Xingyu walked into the classroom right on time.
She still wore a simple, deep green long robe, her pale gold hair tied up, revealing pointed ears.
Ian noticed a hint of imperceptible fatigue between her brows, but her eyes were even more profound.
"It seems many of you have heard the news about the Falling Star Plain."
Alevia began, her voice cool and clear as she cut straight to the point.
"The war has indeed begun. And war requires vast quantities of magic potions, healing potions, antidote elixirs, stamina potions... and potions that can rapidly restore Spiritual Power."
"We won’t be covering advanced theories today." She turned and wrote several complex runes on the blackboard.
"What I am going to teach you is how to quickly, stably, and mass-produce various strategic-grade potions with limited resources. For you, this is not only a way to save your lives but also an important source of Magic Stones."
Ian focused his mind, took out a pen and paper, and began to take notes.
Alevia’s lecture this time was extremely detailed, yet simple and easy to understand.
Using the Secondary Healing Potion as an example, she broke it down step by step, simplifying procedures, combining processes, and explaining how to find substitute magic potions...
She even gave a live demonstration of how to use Spiritual Power to guide the refining of three potions simultaneously.
The classroom was silent as everyone watched the various ingredients dance into the crucible to be extracted and condensed...
Their eyes were wide with shock. They had never seen such a miraculous technique!
’So this is another way to refine magic potions!’
[Basic Magic Potion Recognition Skill Level +1]
A tremor ran through Ian’s mind. He quickly lowered his head, silently processing the information that flooded his brain.
Alevia paused for a moment, glanced in Ian’s direction, and continued her demonstration.
At that moment, Ian could no longer hear any external sounds. This Skill’s Limit-Breaking had been too unexpected.
Alevia had lectured on a great deal of unfamiliar magic potion knowledge, catching him off guard with this advancement.
He gradually discovered that his vision seemed to have undergone a change.
In the void of his mind, no rune had formed, but his Spiritual Power had been refined once more.
After a while, the tremor gradually subsided, and he finished processing the knowledge.
With a flicker of his thoughts, he sensed the newly emerged effect.
[Basic Magic Potion Recognition: 1st Limit-Break (0/800) (Limit-Breaking Effect: 1. Insight)]
Insight was a form of energy-path vision.
It allowed him to see through the color and form of a magic potion, to directly "see" the distribution of its Magic Power density and the pathways of its energy flow.
With this Skill having broken its limit, Ian would no longer need to rely on a magic potion’s external characteristics to identify it; he could now directly observe its internal structure.
Reigning in his thoughts, Ian looked up and continued to listen to the lecture, his expression unchanged.
The two-hour class ended quickly.
As Alevia was packing her things to leave, Ian mustered his courage and quickly walked up to her.
"Teacher Alevia, please wait a moment."
Alevia stopped and looked at Ian with her pale gold eyes.
"Ian, is there something you need?"
"Yes, Teacher." Ian said respectfully, "I’d like to purchase four vials of Water of Serenity. I was wondering if you might have a way to procure them."
Alevia raised an eyebrow slightly. "Water of Serenity? It seems your progress with the Rock Bear Potion is going well."
She figured that in two months, Ian must have greatly improved the potion’s efficacy and was now preparing to take it himself.
"Yes, I was fortunate enough to have some success," Ian admitted.
"I can sell them to you," Alevia said directly.
"However, the price is steep. Five hundred Magic Stones per vial, non-negotiable."
Although Ian already knew the price, it still pained him to take out 2,000 Magic Stones at once.
This was more than half of what he had saved over the past two months.
’Sigh! If I had to rely on Kenna and those other paupers, who knows how long it would take to gather the Magic Stones.’
"I’ll take four." Ian took twenty goose-egg-sized High Level Magic Stones from his cloth pouch and handed them over.
Alevia gave Ian a somewhat surprised look, apparently not expecting him to be able to produce so many Magic Stones at once.
She took the Magic Stones. A green light flashed in her hand, and an exquisite wooden box appeared.
Inside were seven neatly arranged vials of Water of Serenity, their color as deep as ink, seemingly absorbing all nearby light. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
"Water of Serenity. Just take it half an hour before using the Bloodline Potion."
Alevia took out the other three vials and handed the wooden box to Ian.
At the same time, she offered a light reminder, "You have a decent talent for magic potions. Don’t mistake the means for the end. Be mindful of your path."
"Thank you for the reminder, Teacher!" Ian accepted the box with a solemn expression, a renewed sense of gratitude for Malena welling up in his heart.
"Teacher, how has Malena been recently?"
"She is doing well." Alevia turned and left, leaving behind a simple reply.
Ian had originally planned to ask about the Water of Balance, but he didn’t get a chance to speak.
He carefully put the wooden box away, his mind racing with calculations.
’Perhaps I can use this channel...’
Having finished his business, he didn’t linger in the High Tower. After purchasing materials for some other potions, he headed to the station.
The carriage on the return trip was much more crowded than the one on the way there. Perhaps because people were carrying more valuables, they felt a carriage was a safer option.
Throughout the journey, the atmosphere in the carriage was just as oppressive; few people spoke.
The faces of most people showed fatigue and vigilance.
Ian sat by the window, leaning back slightly with his eyes closed to rest.
He had just silently cast an Eye of Vigilance, which was now floating above the carriage roof, following along.
The eye’s surveillance range had reached a 300-meter radius. If anything unexpected happened, he would have some time to prepare.
The carriage had traveled about half the distance, and the number of pedestrians outside began to dwindle.
As they entered a relatively remote forest road, Ian’s eyes snapped open.
Disaster struck!
BOOM! BOOM...
A dozen or so scorching fireballs and pitch-black corrosive rays shot toward the carriage without any warning.
Ian’s Eye of Vigilance had just been shattered by a streak of light.
"Ambush!" the coachman shouted, being the first to leap from the carriage and disappear into the woods.
"It’s people from the Deep Red Royal Court!" Panicked screams erupted inside the carriage.
The carriage exploded, sending wooden splinters flying everywhere.
Agonized screams, cries of alarm, and wails erupted in an instant.
Several apprentices sitting by the windows were unfortunately struck by the witchcraft and died on the spot.
Ian had sensed the attack just before it hit, and his Crystal Energy Shield deployed almost instinctively.
A Corrosive Ray pierced through the oak planks and struck his shield, making a "TSSSSS" sound.
The shield’s spiritual light flickered violently but ultimately managed to block the attack.
Before the eye shattered, he saw at least a dozen figures in deep red long robes rush out from the forest.
The four at the very front had exceptionally powerful auras—they were High Level Apprentices!
Their objective was clear. One of them split off to chase the coachman.
The remaining High Level Apprentices blocked the path ahead and behind, while the others surrounded the carriage.
Judging by the formation, they clearly intended to wipe everyone out.
"Run!" Ian released another eye and leaped from the ruined carriage.
Guided by the eye, he fled, sprinting in the opposite direction from most of the others.
His formidable physique once again proved its advantage. He was as fast as a gray shadow, disappearing into the woods in a few flashes.
"Oh? He’s quick to react." The person opposite with the strongest aura noticed Ian, a cruel glint flashing in his eyes.
"A Middle Level Apprentice, but not slow at all. He might be worth a little something."
He abandoned the opponent in front of him and transformed into a streak of dark red light, chasing after Ian.
In his eyes, prey that was struggling desperately before its death was far more interesting.
