"More hands make for faster work." Kloer patted Gu Ning’s shoulder. "They all work for me, so don’t worry."

Seeing the work uniforms on the Beastmen and a few vaguely familiar faces, the wariness in Gu Ning’s eyes faded.

Kloer poked his head into her bedroom and asked, "Which things are yours?"

Gu Ning wrote: *They’re all mine.*

The bedroom had been empty to begin with; she and Barto had furnished it bit by bit.

Kloer gave the bedroom a cursory glance, then directed his men to start moving everything out.

Gu Ning saw that everything she needed to pack was ready, so she left the rest for the Beastmen to carry.

Feeling it was best not to stand in their way, she went to the living room.

Watching the room she had lived in for almost two months being emptied out like this, Gu Ning felt a little wistful.

After two seconds of wistfulness, she ran to the doorway and stared intently at the closed door of 509 across the hall.

The landlord had said the Beastman living across from her had paid Cook’s rent, and she was a little curious to see who this person was.

If it was some kind of enemy or a creep, she wanted to remember his face so she could be on guard.

If it was really one of Cook’s relatives, then she wouldn’t have to worry too much.

Gu Ning glanced back at Kloer and the other Beastmen in her room. With them around, she felt a little braver.

She took a deep breath, stepped forward, and raised her hand to knock on the door of 509.

After knocking, Gu Ning waited for a moment. Hearing no sound, she was about to knock again.

"Need something?" a voice murmured right by Gu Ning’s ear.

Gu Ning jumped in fright and scrambled back.

A tall, slender Beastman was now leaning against the frame of door 509, watching her with a casual posture, his arms crossed.

It was as if he had appeared out of thin air; she hadn’t sensed him at all.

Gu Ning’s gaze swept over the Beastman, quickly sizing him up.

In the dimly lit hallway, she couldn’t see his face clearly. Besides, the lower half of his face was covered by a mask...

’No, that doesn’t look like a mask.’

Gu Ning saw that his neck was also covered, connected to his clothes, which made the lines of his shoulders and neck look smooth and elegant. And those form-fitting clothes...

’Wait a minute.’

Gu Ning stared blankly at his attire.

A high-collared combat suit that covered the lower half of his face, a slender and athletic build...

’Have I seen this Beastman somewhere before?’

"Had enough of a look?" the Beastman asked, his tone cold.

Feeling the oppressive aura he projected, Gu Ning immediately lowered her eyes, swallowed nervously, and backed away toward her own doorway.

"Hey, little one, don’t block the way. Careful you don’t get bumped."

A Beastman carrying a bookshelf came out of the room and gave Gu Ning a light push with his hand.

He hadn’t used much force, but Gu Ning’s small frame was no match for the strength of a Beastman’s large hand. She was pushed forward and stumbled.

She slammed headfirst into a certain Beastman’s solid abdomen.

Gu Ning: ’I’m so dead.’

Gu Ning came to her senses and immediately tried to pull away.

The Beastman in front of her raised a hand, gripped her shoulder, and tightened his hold.

Held fast and unable to retreat, Gu Ning had no choice but to look up at him.

She found herself staring into a pair of chillingly cold eyes.

Now that she was closer, Gu Ning could finally see that the Beastman had green eyes.

Then, she remembered instantly: she had met this Beastman in the elevator before!

The moment she recalled this, Gu Ning’s heart began to pound like a drum.

’So this Beastman really is a creep who was stalking her, or Cook and the others?!’

Gu Ning began to struggle frantically in his grasp. The moment she moved, the Beastman let go, a look of disgust in his eyes.

Gu Ning had struggled so hard that when he released her, she staggered back several steps and nearly fell, but Kloer appeared behind her and caught her back with his hand.

"Did he bully you?" Kloer asked, steadying her. His gaze swept over the Beastman in front of them as he frowned.

Gu Ning shook her head. She was panicking inside and just wanted to leave this place as quickly as possible.

Her intuition was screaming at her that this Beastman was extremely dangerous!

Seeing her shake her head in denial, Kloer gave the Beastman in mercenary attire a suspicious look before turning back to Gu Ning. "The stuff is almost all moved. Let’s go."

With that, he shot the mercenary a warning glare and left, an arm around Gu Ning’s shoulders.

Only after they were far away did Wanai slowly inhale.

Smelling the lingering wolf scent in the air, he covered his nose, opened his door, went inside, and SLAMMED it shut. He then hurried to the bathroom to wash his hands.

He hadn’t been entirely sure about the relationship between that construction foreman named Alex and this Mimic Mixed Species. But now, smelling the wolf scent on the little Mixed Breed, his stomach churned.

Alex had actually gotten his scent on the little Mixed Breed, and the smell faintly reeked of aggression and possession. It was truly nauseating.

He had looked into Alex’s identity. As a Beastman with the qualifications of an alpha wolf, it was impossible that he couldn’t tell she was a Mimic Mixed Species.

Wanai washed his hands several times with soap, but he could still smell the wolf scent that had rubbed off on him. He stripped off his clothes and tossed them aside.

Leiton tossed the badge back to him. "So I can’t lock you up. You think I can’t lock them up?"

Alex raised a hand and caught the badge, his expression composed. "According to Beast Alliance law, for Mixed Breeds who are easily provoked, their recent actions constitute self-defense. As for the cause and effect, Officer Leiton, you were personally involved. I trust I don’t need to say more."

Leiton laughed in exasperation.

’Personally involved? Hell no.’

’Damn it, my hand is still numb!’

Alex calmly replied, "I’m applying for supervised custody."

Leiton said coldly, "Fine. So you want to play that game, is that it? Little Black!"

"Yeah!" A black sheep police officer stood up from his desk in the office. "Chief."

Leiton: "Is the thing I asked for ready?"

"Ready, ready." The black sheep officer took the documents that had just come out of the printer, straightened them, and placed them in front of Leiton.

"Give it to him," Leiton said with a nod.

Little Black picked up the documents and handed them to Alex.

Alex took them and saw they were the identity files for Gu Ning and the other two, as well as his own.

"You tell me, what kind of guardian are you?" Leiton stared at him. "You’re not even on the same damn household register. You’re not even in the same small clan or large clan. Are you messing with me?"
