Virtual Idol in the Beast World: Five Clans Fight Over Me

Gu Ning took the workbook Alex had corrected, feeling a little embarrassed by his praise.

She felt like she had returned to her elementary school days, overjoyed by a teacher’s praise.

Even though she wasn’t an elementary school student anymore, what she was learning now was the Beastman equivalent of grade school material, and Alex’s tone was exactly like a teacher’s.

Gu Ning’s first instinct when she felt embarrassed was to scratch her head, but all she hit was her cold, hard helmet.

She paused, then sheepishly lowered her hand.

Alex noticed her little gesture. "You don’t have to wear your helmet all the time in the office," he said. "Take it off if it’s uncomfortable."

Gu Ning didn’t answer him, but she did give the matter of her hair some serious thought.

Her hair, which reached her waist, was quite long. That would have been fine in her original world, but it was a bit difficult to manage here.

Just as Gu Ning was considering whether to cut her hair shorter when she got back, Kloer came into the office carrying two large bowls of rice.

Alex checked the time and said to Gu Ning, "That’s all for today’s lesson. Eat your meal and rest for a bit. This afternoon, you’ll go up on the wall with Kloer."

Gu Ning nodded.

Once he was done giving her instructions, Alex strode quickly toward the door.

"Hey, Boss, you haven’t eaten yet." Seeing Alex about to leave, Kloer offered him one of the bowls.

"I’m skipping," Alex said. "I have some compressed biscuits. Give both to him."

"That little frame of his can’t possibly eat this much," Kloer muttered. He stopped Alex again. "Boss, did you see it?"

Seeing his excited expression, Alex asked, "What’s the good news?"

Kloer said, "It’s that little female! She released a new video! Have you seen it? Have you seen it?"

At that, Alex glanced in Gu Ning’s direction, patted Kloer’s shoulder, and said, "You should spend less time watching virtual females."

Seeing Alex’s complete lack of interest, Kloer’s urge to share was cut short, and his enthusiasm waned.

’This little female is really different from those other virtual females!’

’The Boss really has no taste,’ Kloer sighed to himself.

’Oh well. I’ll just enjoy it by myself, then.’

Kloer brought the food over to Gu Ning. Seeing her still buried in her writing, he smiled and said, "Still writing? Time to eat. You get two bowls today; Alex’s portion is for you too."

Gu Ning looked up at the heaping portions of rice, piled up like little mounds. ’One bowl is enough to make me explode,’ she thought. ’How could I possibly eat two?’

She wrote "Thank you" in her workbook and showed it to Kloer, then picked up one of the bowls and ducked under the desk.

When Kloer saw the "thank you" she had written, he chuckled and sent a photo to Alex: [Boss, this is the first time I’ve ever gotten a thank you from the little Mixed Breed. Did you teach him?]

Alex: [No]

Kloer: [He’s pretty interesting. But he crawled under the desk to eat again. It’s not like I’m going to steal it from him.]

Alex: [Okay. Don’t scare him again.]

During her meal, Gu Ning opened the paw-press app. She set her bowl on the floor and gnawed on a large chicken leg as she tapped into her creator dashboard to check the tip revenue from her new video.

When she saw the revenue started with a 5, she started counting the digits: ’Ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, millions...’

"!!!"

Five million!!!

Gu Ning gasped. In just half a day, she had earned so much in tips.

At this moment, Gu Ning looked at the tip revenue, feeling as if she had won a five-million-dollar lottery.

’Five million! Five million! Cook’s Purification Crystal Stone is covered!’

Overjoyed, Gu Ning jumped, and her head slammed into the surface above.

THUD! The dull sound echoed as Gu Ning clutched her head.

Kloer heard the noise, glanced in her direction, and then went back to looking down at the little female’s video.

After watching the video several more times, Kloer passionately left a comment:

[Beast God above! My wish came true! A Bear Clan video, for real! And we even see her face! She’s too cute (fainting emoji)]

He had barely posted his comment when a reply popped up:

[I’m making a wish too! Gu Demiao Ning, give us a Cat Clan female! If you don’t post a Cat Clan female video, what’s the ’Miao’ in your name for?!]

[You Bear Clan guys have all the damn luck (nose-picking emoji)]

[Oh, fallen in love already? Another pathetic Beastman who’s never seen a real female (disdain emoji)]

[Anyone who likes virtual females deserves to never meet a real one.]

When Kloer saw those salty replies, he immediately fired back:

[You got shit for brains? This bear will like what he likes. Why are you so nosy? You live in the sea?]

[This bear is from Zone 5. Who’s the one who’s never seen a real female? Someone from Zone 17 has the gall to come here and bark at me?]

Gu Ning heard Kloer’s swearing and muttering. She perked up her ears to listen, and the words he was saying sounded more and more familiar.

Words like "female," "my Bear Clan," and so on.

After listening for a while, Gu Ning poked her head out from under the desk to look. Kloer was sitting on the sofa, scrolling through his terminal. Although there was some distance, she could vaguely see that the video he was playing was the new Bear Clan female video she had just released.

"..." Kloer was actually watching her video.

Just then, Kloer keenly sensed someone’s gaze on him. He whipped his head around and saw the little Mixed Breed’s head peeking out from behind the desk.

They made eye contact for a moment before Gu Ning immediately ducked back down.

Kloer was actually a little charmed by the Mixed Breed. He chuckled and turned his attention back to his terminal.

The terminal was still playing the video of the little female on a loop. The interruption from the little Mixed Breed seemed to have inexplicably dispelled the anger that had been building in Kloer’s chest.

He lost the will to argue. After firing off a few more replies, he scrolled through the comments for a bit before focusing his attention back on the little female.

’Sigh... If only I could really meet a Bear Clan female this cute.’

He’d seen his fair share of real females in Zone 5, but that’s all it was—seeing them. Females were too rare. He’d never get to the front of the line, so it was best not to even think about it.

Kloer clutched his chest and sighed. At that moment, he happened to see the little female look toward the camera, revealing her full face.

"Hm?"

Looking at the little female’s big, round, crystal-clear eyes, Kloer was suddenly struck by a sense of familiarity.

He paused the video on the frame where the little female was looking at the camera. He stared at it for a while, then slowly turned his head to look in the direction of the office desk.

A puzzled expression crossed Kloer’s face. He glanced from his terminal to the empty desk, and back again.

He held up his hand, lining up the terminal with the desk, and called out, "Cook."

After calling twice with no answer, Kloer got up and walked toward the office desk.

Afraid of scaring the little Mixed Breed again, Kloer didn’t make a sound. He craned his neck to peek quietly under the desk and saw that the little Mixed Breed had actually curled up inside and fallen asleep.

Kloer saw him curled into a ball, bundled up tightly in his clothes. He was wearing a mask, goggles, and a hard hat, without a single patch of skin showing. A sudden curiosity sparked within him.

’I don’t think I’ve ever seen his face.’

Kloer silently walked behind the desk and squatted down. He stared at the little Mixed Breed for a moment, then reached out his hand.
