Even though Mia Kane knew this was a trap set by Vivian Lynch, a life was on the line, and she couldn’t worry about anything else.

She quickly dialed 911. By the time the paramedics arrived and carried Vivian away, a large pool of blood stained the floor.

Mia Kane stared at the fresh blood, her heart pounding.

’How... how could she use her own child to frame someone?’

Vivian Lynch was pregnant with Chase Lockwood’s first son. She needed this child; there was no way she’d use the baby to harm herself.

That was why Mia was always on guard around Vivian Lynch, but Vivian had never used the baby as a pawn before.

’But this time... did she fall by accident, or was it something else?’

"President Kane, don’t worry... I saw everything. I saw it clearly. You didn’t push her. She pulled her hand away from you and fell on purpose."

Rosalyn Shield was stammering, clearly frightened by what had happened.

"What about the surveillance footage?"

Mia Kane had already seen the footage. It was inconclusive. She and Vivian Lynch had been struggling, making it impossible to tell if there was a push.

Rosalyn Shield was on her payroll, so Mia wasn’t sure if her testimony would even be considered valid.

"Let’s go to the hospital and cooperate with the police investigation."

Mia Kane let out a troubled breath and rushed to the hospital where Vivian Lynch had been taken.

Vivian Lynch was currently in the operating room. Her abdomen had hit the ground, causing massive bleeding. The situation was critical.

Chase Lockwood was waiting anxiously outside the operating room.

Mia Kane stepped forward, wanting to offer a few words of comfort, but when Chase Lockwood saw her, his eyes blazed with fury. He lunged at her.

His hand came down in a heavy slap, and she had no time to dodge.

She instinctively closed her eyes, bracing for the impact, but the expected pain never came.

Her eyelashes fluttered as she opened her eyes.

"Adrian Preston, let go! She made Vivian have a miscarriage! That was my child! I’m not letting Mia Kane get away with this today."

"Adrian Preston?"

Mia Kane was surprised to see him here.

"There’s no conclusion to this matter yet. You lay a hand on her and see what happens."

"Fine. Then I’d like to see how you’re going to get her off the hook when the police arrive!"

Chase Lockwood was seething with rage.

The police arrived shortly after. They had already been to the studio to retrieve the surveillance footage.

"Miss Kane, can you describe what happened?"

Mia Kane recounted everything exactly as it happened, including how Vivian Lynch had verbally provoked her.

As she spoke, Chase Lockwood’s brow furrowed, his expression turning grim.

He probably had no idea this was what Vivian Lynch was like behind his back.

But Mia Kane wasn’t finished speaking when a soft, trembling voice came from behind her.

"That’s not how it was... That’s not how it was..."

The police officer looked over, recognizing the woman from the surveillance footage. She had been standing nearby.

"Are you a witness?"

"Rosalyn Shield?"

Mia Kane looked at her in confusion, a sense of unease creeping into her heart.

"She’s lying. Mrs. Lockwood came over very politely. She said she wanted to treat President Kane to dinner, hoping to make peace and forget all their past grievances. She even said she felt she owed her and wanted to compensate her. She said she didn’t mind her interacting with her own husband; she just wanted to appease her anger."

"But President Kane wouldn’t listen to anything. She was relentless, and then she pushed Mrs. Lockwood. And before this, President Kane had bad-mouthed Mrs. Lockwood to me, her own employee, more than once. She called her a homewrecker, said she ruined her relationship, and cursed her, wishing her son would be born without an asshole or something. Anyway... the things she said in private were so nasty I couldn’t even stand to listen."

"I may work for President Kane and get my salary from her, but a person has to have a conscience. I can’t just tell blatant lies. Just a moment ago, President Kane even promised me a large sum of money if I’d commit perjury for her. But... but how could I betray my own conscience?"

"Rosalyn Shield?"

Mia Kane couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Rosalyn Shield had been with her for over three years, and Mia had never mistreated her.

Yet here she was, turning on her. This wasn’t what she had said before they left.

"Are you one of Vivian Lynch’s people?"

The realization finally dawned on her.

"I’ve never had any contact with Mrs. Lockwood, President Kane. I just can’t go against my conscience. I can’t watch you do evil things anymore."

Rosalyn Shield continued to shed tears.

"Why are you trying to destroy me..."

Overcome with emotion, Mia Kane took a few steps forward, wanting to confront her.

But Chase Lockwood stepped in, grabbing her wrist in a tight grip.

He stared at her with a complicated expression. "Mia Kane, you are truly vicious, going after a pregnant woman. My child is dead. Are you happy now! I’m telling you, I won’t let this go. Even if someone is protecting you, I will make you go to Hell."

As he said this, he glanced at Adrian Preston.

"You two, please come back to the station with us. We need your cooperation with our investigation."

"Okay."

Rosalyn Shield agreed at once.

Mia Kane also nodded bitterly. Her feelings were a mess. She wasn’t particularly shaken by the fact that Vivian Lynch had used her own child to harm her.

The two of them were already mortal enemies, and she had witnessed all sorts of dirty tricks from Vivian. Even though using her child was shocking, it wasn’t completely out of character.

What hurt the most was being stabbed in the back by someone she trusted!

Just as Mia Kane was about to follow the female officer to the police station, Adrian Preston caught her by the wrist.

Mia Kane didn’t spare him a glance, ruthlessly pulling her hand away.

She could have easily opened her mouth and asked for his help.

Even a single look would have been enough.

But she did neither. ’Is it because she has no hope I’ll help her?’

He followed her downstairs, watched her get into the police car, and then tailed it.

He called Theo Thorne and told him to investigate the matter thoroughly.

He had the means to get her transferred to Young Zane’s jurisdiction, but he held back. He decided to let the normal process play out, hoping they wouldn’t make things difficult for her inside or deliberately lead her into making a mistake in her answers.

He was certain Mia Kane hadn’t done it!

He followed her all the way to the police station but didn’t get out of the car. He would get a copy of Mia Kane’s statement anyway.

It was basically the same as what she’d said at the hospital, but Rosalyn Shield insisted that Mia Kane had pushed Vivian Lynch.

Vivian Lynch needed to be investigated, and so did this Rosalyn Shield!

「At the hospital—」

Vivian Lynch was out of danger and had been wheeled out of the operating room.

"Vivian!"

Chase Lockwood rushed forward emotionally, holding her hand tightly as he followed her to the hospital room.

"Doctor, how is she?" Chase Lockwood already knew in his heart that the baby was gone.

It was such a shame. The baby was already five months along, and it was a boy.

He, too, had once joyfully anticipated this child’s arrival.

"The patient needs to rest well. This ordeal took a huge toll on her body, and she’ll need some time to recover. Also... there’s something else..."

"What is it?"

Chase Lockwood asked without turning his head, busy wiping the sweat from Vivian Lynch’s brow.

"Mrs. Lockwood’s injuries were too severe this time. The violent impact to her abdomen caused massive hemorrhaging. To save her life, we had no choice but to perform a hysterectomy."

"Mrs. Lockwood... will never be able to get pregnant again."

As soon as the words were spoken, a dead silence fell over the hospital room.
