Miss Moss found the box in the drawer of Leila Jennings’s nightstand and deliberately opened it to check for any documents.
After seeing what was inside, she was practically fuming.
’Miss Jennings’s ex-husband was an absolute animal.’
Miss Moss knew Leila Jennings intended to give this information to Sean Sinclair’s mother. As she handed over the documents, her resentful glare looked like it could burn a hole right through Mrs. Sinclair.
"Who are you?" Mrs. Sinclair asked, her face a mask of disdain.
Miss Moss replied, "I’m the caretaker hired to look after Miss Jennings."
"Just a caretaker, and you’re looking down your nose at me? What’s so high and mighty about a caretaker?"
"A caretaker isn’t high and mighty, but at least I don’t raise animals."
’Is she calling my son an animal?’ Mrs. Sinclair seethed through gritted teeth, "Say that again! Believe it or not, I’ll rip your mouth to shreds!"
Leila Jennings opened her mouth, wanting to stop the two from arguing. The important matter was at hand.
But Miss Moss’s fighting spirit was too strong. She planted her hands on her hips, puffed out her chest, and stood before Mrs. Sinclair, forcing the other woman to take a step back.
"Before you rip my mouth to shreds, why don’t you take a look at the fine things your son has been up to!"
Mrs. Sinclair glared, shaking the documents in her hand. "I’d like to see what this is all ab—"
Her voice stopped abruptly.
She stared intently at the contents, her initial disbelief giving way to trembling hands as she scanned the pages faster and faster.
"This is... fake, right...?"
’So all the money my son earned these past few years was spent on Sarah Lynch?’
’All of it went to Sarah Lynch?’
’Ah! It all went to Sarah Lynch!’
The dozen or so pages were instantly crumpled in Mrs. Sinclair’s hands. She looked up at Leila Jennings in disbelief.
"What is all this?"
She still couldn’t believe it.
"Isn’t it perfectly clear?" Leila Jennings said, looking her in the eye. "Sean Sinclair and I were married for four years, and he only gave me three thousand a month. I had to use my own salary to subsidize our household expenses. When Cecilia Sinclair got into that car accident and was hospitalized, you told me to pay for it? How was I supposed to pay? With the three thousand a month I get?"
"During the years Sarah Lynch was abroad, she took three million from Sean Sinclair every single month. After she returned to the country, Sean immediately bought her a Bentley to drive and a luxury flat at The Aquarina for her to live in."
"The Aquarina, where property values are double what they are where you live. You all always said I was stingy, that I made your son suffer. In reality, your son would rather let himself suffer, let his wife suffer, and let his own parents and sister suffer, but he could never let his sweetheart suffer."
"On top of all that, the handbags worth hundreds of thousands, the clothes worth tens of thousands, and the jewelry worth millions that Sarah Lynch wears—all of it was lovingly sponsored by your son."
"Sean Sinclair told me his money was either saved up or invested. He was wary of me, and I understand that. After all, the person he loves is Sarah Lynch. But he even kept it a secret from you." That last sentence was a blow straight to the heart.
For a moment, Mrs. Sinclair couldn’t bear the shock of the truth. Her mouth hung open, and her breathing became ragged.
She had liked Sarah Lynch so much, wholeheartedly wanting Sarah to be her daughter-in-law.
And what did Sarah Lynch do? Before she even married into the Sinclair family, she had their son wrapped around her little finger. Ninety percent of the money he earned each year went straight into her pocket!
Sarah Lynch was the termite eating the Sinclair family from the inside out!
She was the leech sucking her son’s blood!
"Lynch, Lynch, Lynch..." She was so furious she couldn’t even speak, couldn’t catch her breath.
Seeing this, Miss Moss quickly called for an ambulance.
’If anything happens to her, Miss Jennings will be in for a world of trouble.’
"That bitch!" Mrs. Sinclair managed to gasp out before fainting from rage.
Leila Jennings was stunned for a second, but fearing she might get hurt if she fell, she reached out to support her.
The nearest hospital dispatched an ambulance.
Leila Jennings and Miss Moss went along with them.
Leila Jennings hadn’t expected the news to hit Mrs. Sinclair this hard.
Miss Moss also looked surprised. "She’s that possessive of her son’s money? Enough to faint from anger?"
Mrs. Sinclair had never worked a day in her life.
Born into a working-class family in a first-tier city, she was supported by her parents from age one to nineteen. After marrying a man four years her senior, she was supported by her husband. After her husband left a well-known education group, she was supported by her son.
Mrs. Sinclair always berated Leila Jennings for being just a junior employee with a monthly salary of four thousand, when in reality, she herself had never gone out and earned a single cent.
The only money she had ever "earned" was likely the meager interest from depositing the money her husband and son gave her into a bank.
Mrs. Sinclair believed her husband’s money was hers, so naturally, her son’s money was also hers.
Mrs. Sinclair had originally thought her son’s money was in the hands of the out-of-town daughter-in-law she despised. She never imagined it was in the hands of a true outsider.
When she woke up in the hospital bed, Leila Jennings was gone. She only saw her husband and son standing anxiously by her side.
"Mom, you’re awake!" Sean Sinclair was the first to notice his mother’s eyes open. He rushed over anxiously. "How did you faint?"
Mr. Sinclair also asked, "How are you feeling?"
Mrs. Sinclair recalled the documents she saw before she fainted and every single word Leila Jennings had said. The rage once again clogged her chest.
She pointed a trembling finger at her son. "You’d better tell me the truth! Where has all the money you’ve earned these past few years gone!"
Sean Sinclair’s breath hitched.
A flash of panic crossed his eyes.
’How did Mom find out?’
’Didn’t Chairman Forrester personally send people to handle my scandal? How could it have still reached my mother’s ears?’
Mr. Sinclair frowned. "Why are you asking about that as soon as you wake up? Wasn’t it always in Leila Jennings’s hands?"
"In Leila Jennings’s hands, my ass!" Mrs. Sinclair raised her hand as if to slap her son, but in the end, she couldn’t bring herself to do it.
She said, grief-stricken, "You tell us! You tell your father and me, right now, where did your annual salary, your bonuses, your investment returns, and everything else go! What have you been doing behind our backs!"
Seeing her state, Mr. Sinclair had a bad feeling. He turned to question his son. "Did you get involved in something you shouldn’t have?"
"No." Sean Sinclair’s lips tightened into a thin line.
"Then what does your mother mean by all this?"
Mrs. Sinclair couldn’t wait to blurt it out. "He gave all the money to Sarah Lynch! Three million a month, Henry, three million! It went on for over three years! That’s over thirty million a year!"
"Even if he didn’t spend the money on us, on his wife, or on his sister, he shouldn’t be spending it on a woman with no official status!"
"Sean Sinclair, oh, Sean Sinclair, have you ever bought me, your mother, millions in jewelry? Have you ever bought your father a car worth millions? Have you ever bought your sister that many designer bags and clothes? And what about you? How many valuable things do you even own for yourself!"
"How could your father and I have raised such a... such a..." ’Traitor who betrays his own family!’
Sean Sinclair was getting completely chewed out.
Mr. Sinclair looked at his silent son, then back at his pale-faced wife. "Where did you hear this?"
He knew his son had spent money on Sarah Lynch, but what his wife was saying sounded too exaggerated. Could it be just a rumor?
"Where did I hear this? Do I need to hear it from somewhere? Leila Jennings threw the proof right in my face." ’It was like a slap that left my cheeks stinging. And with an outsider there, I was utterly humiliated!’
"Leila Jennings? You went to see Leila Jennings?" Sean Sinclair looked up. He just wanted to know how his mother had managed to see her.
Mrs. Sinclair’s head was throbbing, but her mind was only on where all that money went. "Henry, ask your son yourself if it’s true or not! Sean Sinclair, you tell your father, is what I’m saying true or false?"
