The second shadow appeared inside the main building, near the dining room. On the table were items Zich had sorted out earlier. Although most of the truly important things had already been put away, there were still some soul stones and ordinary materials left outside.
The man was wearing black clothes similar to the first one in the courtyard, but his figure was slimmer and his movements faster.
In his hand, he was holding a bag of soul stones.
Zich stood at the entrance of the hallway, watching this scene, his eyes colder than before.
The other side also saw him.
The air went quiet for a moment, tension bubbling.
"You..." Zich said slowly, "do you all really like touching other people’s things?"
The assassin did not answer. Instead, he immediately retreated, trying to leave by using the shadows in the corner of the dining room. But just as his body was about to merge into the shadow by the wall, all the lights in the dining room suddenly came on.
Buzz!
Magic lamps on the ceiling and walls lit up at the same time.
The shadows that had originally been spread through the corners were instantly torn apart.
The assassin’s movement suddenly froze.
"What is this?"
Zich expressionlessly raised one hand and lightly tapped the wall control panel beside him.
"This is my house."
As his voice fell, heavy footsteps came from the other side of the hallway.
Iron walked in.
The towering undead knight blocked the only exit. A black greatsword was held across his front, and a crimson glow shone through the gaps in his helmet.
"Your plan failed," Zich said. "And it failed very badly."
In the courtyard, the first man had his shoulder broken by Iron earlier and was still being watched by Slimy. Slimy kept staring at him while spitting out a ring of poison on the ground, as if drawing a cage he could not cross.
When that failure outside heard the movement inside, he immediately understood what had happened.
"You idiot!" he shouted toward the house. "You went to steal things?"
The intruder inside looked even worse.
"Shut up!"
"The mission was to kill him, not steal things!" the man outside roared. "Did you lose your brain the moment you saw soul stones?"
Zich’s eyes moved slightly when he heard that.
So that was it... The one outside was responsible for holding him back, while the one inside was supposed to seize the chance to assassinate him or search the place.
They should have been cooperating.
But because the spoils were too tempting, the one inside developed greed first.
Zich suddenly found it a little funny.
Not because the situation itself was funny.
But because these so-called failures had actually fallen to the same weakness as him.
’Greed.’
Only his greed was usually more planned.
While this man’s greed was obviously much more low-level.
"So you two were originally acting together?" Zich asked.
The failure outside gritted his teeth but did not answer.
The assassin inside also remained silent.
Zich nodded.
"I see."
His gaze fell on the soul stone bag in the assassin’s hand.
"Put it down."
The assassin looked down at the heavy bag in his hand, and a trace of struggle flashed in his eyes.
When he came in and saw the neatly arranged soul stones, his thoughts changed.
How could a newcomer have so many soul stones?
He didn’t want to know how the latter had gotten them, but he had decided to take them first and deal with the mission later.
But now, the owner was back, shattering all his plans.
"You killed one of our people," the assassin said coldly. "This counts as compensation."
Zich looked at him and suddenly fell silent for a moment.
The next second, he smiled lightly.
The smile was very faint, but it made the assassin feel uneasy.
"You broke into my house, ruined my courtyard, tried to kill me, and stole my soul stones," Zich said. "And then you say this is compensation?"
He stepped forward, his footstep echoing across the ground.
"You failures really are terrible at settling accounts."
The assassin’s eyes turned vicious, and his body suddenly sank backward into the broken shadows on the ground.
Zich did not chase him. He simply tapped the wall control panel again; more lights came on, and the dining room became brighter.
The shadows were cut into even smaller pieces.
Just as the assassin had gone in halfway, it was as if something had blocked him, and he was violently bounced back out of the shadow.
Iron had already moved.
BOOM!!!
The back of Iron’s black greatsword smashed into the assassin’s leg.
The sound of bone cracking rang clearly.
The assassin screamed miserably and crashed to the ground, the soul stone bag in his hand flying out as well.
Zich did not look at the man first.
He looked at the soul stone bag.
After the bag landed, the soul stones rolled out. Some scattered across the floor, and one of them nearly rolled under the edge of the table.
Zich frowned.
He walked over, picked up that soul stone, and put it back into the bag.
Then he started counting.
One.
Two.
Three.
The intruder lay on the ground, his face twisted from pain.
He had thought Zich would question him first.
Instead, Zich was counting the soul stones first.
That was even more unbearable than being beaten directly.
The failure outside was also stunned.
Zich quickly finished counting, and his expression became even colder.
"One is missing."
The assassin’s body stiffened.
Zich slowly turned to look at him.
"Which one?"
The assassin clenched his teeth and said nothing.
Zich walked over to him, crouched down, and said in a calm but terrifyingly cold voice, "I don’t like repeating myself."
The assassin sneered.
"You think I would tell you?"
Zich did not get angry. He reached out and grabbed the assassin’s wrist.
"Iron."
Iron raised a foot and stepped on the assassin’s other leg.
The assassin’s pupils contracted.
CRACK!!!
Bones shattered again, and screams echoed through the entire dining room.
"Which one?"
The assassin trembled all over, sweat pouring down his forehead.
The failure outside finally could not help cursing.
"You idiot! What exactly did you take?"
"Shut up!" the assassin inside roared.
Zich turned to look outside.
"Keep cursing. The more he says, the more I know."
The failure outside stiffened. Only then did he realize he had said too much himself.
"Where did you hide it?" Zich continued.
The assassin panted heavily but did not answer.
Zich looked at him for a while, then suddenly noticed that his throat moved a little unnaturally.
Zich’s eyes widened in shock.
"You swallowed it?"
The assassin’s face finally changed.
Zich was silent for two seconds. Then he said in a low voice, "You are even dumber than I thought."
The next moment, a faint red glow suddenly lit up in the assassin’s abdomen.
....
