Second Genesis

Amunet ran head first into Grey’s chest and stumbled back, nearly falling on her ass. She hurried to gather some strength, but when she found it was Grey, she stopped. What even was the point?

"Did you come here to kill me? Or did you want to see what else I have? If you want to take everything, I will just have to fight you here and now even if it means I die."

Grey crossed his arms and didn’t say much of anything. He just looked at her indifferently. He couldn’t see any of her expression right now, not when she was shrouded in shadows, but he could feel her uneasiness peeking through.

She knew the power gap between them was too large. It didn’t matter what Grey wanted to do to her, she couldn’t stop it, and she knew that.

"I was thinking about something interesting." Grey said, his voice a bit cold.

"... And that is?"

"How old are you?"

Amunet’s heart skipped a beat, but she didn’t quite understand the point of the question.

"... Why are you asking me that question?"

Grey reached a hand forward, and Amunet tried to stop it, but she just couldn’t get away fast enough. It wrapped around her throat, not particularly hard, but not particularly gentle either. She was practically immobilized, her body under Grey’s mercy.

"I asked you a question. When people who are much stronger than you ask you questions, you should probably answer."

Something about those words seemed to snap something in Amunet and she bit at Grey’s wrist, kicking at his crotch at the same time. Grey didn’t even bother with the first, just catching her ankle to block the second.

"These balls of mine are very precious, so I would prefer you not destroy them, please and thanks. There are quite a few women I can think of who are quite fond of them."

"Women in your fucking dreams don’t count." Amunet said with a growl.

"Now that was original," Grey said sarcastically. "Please do tell me another, I’m sure I’ll laugh this time. Promise."

"Funny you think it’s a joke when it’s just sad."

"Better, better. Not bad. Now—," Grey held his arm out, lifting Amunet from her feet and pressing her back against a tree. She struggled to even breathe, let alone talk. "—answer my question."

Amunet clawed at his hand, a pulsing echo coming from her Neural Frame.

"No, no. I don’t think so. If you activate your Frame, I’ll be forced to actually kill you. At that point, it won’t matter how old you are, now would it?"

Amunet ground her teeth so hard Grey could quite literally hear it, and he was pretty sure it had little to do with how "super" his hearing was now. It looked like she wasn’t going to answer purely out of spite.

Grey let go of her throat and shook his head. "Don’t be difficult. Just answer the question."

Amunet gasped for breath as she nearly fell to her ass. She grabbed her throat, rubbing at it slowly, and then she looked up with what Grey was pretty sure was a glare. Seconds ticked by and Grey just stood there, wondering if she was ever just going to answer the fucking question.

He realized he had probably been a bit too aggressive, but honestly speaking, he didn’t care to be any softer with this woman. Maybe he still had too much pent up resentment.

"... Eighteen years old." Amunet finally said, catching Grey off guard. By this point, he thought she wasn’t going to say anything.

Grey frowned. Was he wrong?

He hadn’t come across any minors other than himself in his world. Though 18 was just an arbitrary standard decided upon by a few countries back on Earth, you were generally considered an adult there after you breached that threshold.

"Wait. When did you turn 18?" Grey asked.

"... Why?"

"Do we really have to go through all this again?" Grey couldn’t help but roll his eyes. Woman scorned and all that. But he was the one who was scorned here.

As expected, Amunet remained silent for a long while, but she eventually gave him the reply he was looking for.

"Yesterday. I turned 18 yesterday."

"YES!" Grey grinned ear to ear and Amunet’s expression became weird. Or, at least the shadows shrouding her face surely moved to make it seem like that.

"Don’t give me that fucking look woman, I’m a minor. In fact, you’re liable for sexual harassment right now."

"You’re the one with the choking kink." Amunet said speechlessly.

"You took that as a kink? I was just trying to kill you. Talk about a self report."

"The self report is you drooling over any woman you see every other second."

"I think that’s jealousy I’m hearing."

"Oh I’m so sure," Amunet rolled her eyes. "I’ve seen enough of you. I’m not interested."

She gave a pointed look at all the holes in his pants.

Grey gave his hips a little wiggle and Amunet instantly looked away.

"You ever seen one of those someone pretending to be crazy meets someone pretending to be sane memes? That’s you right now. Folded like a lawn chair."

"Fuck you."

"I would say gladly, but you might stab me in the back mid-stroke."

"Sounds like your ’stroke’ wouldn’t be all that good, then."

"Too bad you’ll never find out."

"Are you going to tell me why you’re asking for my age? Or are you just going to keep pretending like you’re not flirting with me right now?"

"Pretending? You’ll definitely know when I’m flirting. I have no interest in you. You’d know if I did."

"Yeah, whatever helps you sleep at night. Answer my question."

"You are the first minor I’ve run into. Everybody else is an adult."

"So what?"

"I dunno yet."

"Are you serious? What could have possibly made you want to make that connection now? It sounds like you just didn’t want me to walk away and now you’re wasting my time."

"Not quite." Grey said. "I have a feeling that your Producers are also very interested in this love story."

"Mm, that’s interesting and all, but how about you tell me why you’re dressed like some Egyptian noble from 1100?"
