- Chapter 1: The Night Everything Changed
The undercurrents surging through the city that night were immense.
Amon moved from one E-rank dungeon to another, wiping out dungeon creatures with brutal efficiency.
Finally, after more than five hours, he arrived at the last dungeon.
At this moment, it was already deep into the night.
A chilling wind swept past, causing Amon’s leather jacket to flutter faintly as he stood before the final E-rank dungeon.
His breathing had grown heavier, each inhale scraping through his lungs as his grip on the sword tightened instinctively.
Clearing dungeons for five hours straight had taken a massive toll on his stamina.
However, Amon knew he had to clear this dungeon.
Not just to obtain the Void Clone.
But because he was on the verge of stepping into D-rank.
He believed that by eliminating the beasts within this dungeon, he would finally break through.
With that thought, Amon’s eyes glinted with ferocity as he stepped inside.
A slight shift in perception overtook him.
The next moment, he was inside the dungeon.
The instant he entered, a cold wave of air struck him.
Swoosh!
Amon instinctively swept his gaze around, immediately sensing something was wrong.
Normally, dungeon creatures would lurk around the outskirts of a dungeon.
But here... there was nothing.
Only the distant groaning of loose metal echoed faintly through the ruined cityscape.
Furrowing his brows slightly, Amon turned around and slowly began walking deeper into the dungeon.
The dungeon was filled with collapsed buildings and shattered structures, making it difficult to clearly see the surroundings. Rusted vehicles lay overturned beneath broken concrete while cracked windows swayed softly in the wind.
As he moved deeper inside, he finally passed through a ruined building and noticed traces of black blood smeared across the ground.
The blood looked thick.
Almost tar-like.
’It seems there’s really something wrong with this dungeon.’
Amon’s guard immediately rose.
His danger sense tingled faintly within him, warning him of unseen threats.
Amon continued deeper into the dungeon.
Along the way, he noticed more black bloodstains scattered throughout the area.
Some of them stretched unnaturally across the walls like something had been dragged through the ruins.
His brows furrowed further when he realized he was nearing the edge of the dungeon.
Suddenly...
Amon’s scalp tingled violently.
His danger sense flared.
Without hesitation, a crescent moon arc erupted behind him like a blooming flower.
Clang!
Sparks burst outward.
Amon turned instantly.
And for the first time, his expression shifted slightly.
The creature standing behind him looked grotesque.
Its body resembled a human’s, yet patches of dark gray flesh bulged unnaturally across its limbs like hardened stone forced beneath skin. One of its arms dragged against the ground while the other hung far too long for a normal creature.
Black blood dripped slowly from the cracks covering its body.
Its head twitched sideways.
Then snapped back into place.
Amon’s eyes narrowed.
The creature didn’t roar.
Didn’t growl.
It simply stared at him with hollow, trembling pupils before lunging forward violently.
Ding!
Amon’s sword moved once more, carving a sweeping arc through the air as it slashed toward the creature.
’Unholy Death Sword Art!’
The blade slashed toward the creature’s neck, aiming to end the battle in a single strike.
However...
Clang!
A sharp metallic sound echoed.
The creature raised its fist and blocked the attack head-on.
Cracks spread across its arm instantly, yet it still managed to defend against the strike.
A flicker of surprise flashed through Amon’s eyes, but he reacted immediately.
Twisting the blade midair, he attacked once more with another Unholy Death Sword Art.
A black aura spread from the sword.
The Winter Frost Blade swept past the creature before abruptly curving through the air like a crescent moon returning to the night sky itself.
Clang!
The humanoid creature raised its other fist to block.
This time, the cracks spread even further across its body.
’What is this thing?’
Amon’s gaze sharpened.
He could clearly sense that the creature was merely a D-rank monster, most likely the dungeon boss.
So why was its body this absurdly durable?
The creature suddenly jerked its neck at an unnatural angle before charging again.
Bang!
The ruined ground collapsed beneath its feet.
Amon’s figure blurred backward while black sword arcs tore across the darkness one after another.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
The sounds echoed rapidly throughout the ruined dungeon like steel crashing against iron walls.
His sword left fleeting crescent trails through the darkness, each slash colliding against a different part of the monster’s body with ruthless precision.
The creature’s arms moved frantically now.
Not skillfully.
Instinctively.
Its jagged fingers clawed toward the incoming strikes while its body twitched violently beneath the pressure of Amon’s attacks.
But it still failed.
Even so, its body remained monstrously tough.
Cracks spread throughout the creature’s rock-hard exterior, thin streams of black blood slowly leaking from within them.
It looked as though the monster could shatter apart at any moment.
Yet even after enduring more than ten deadly strikes, the creature still refused to fall.
’This is getting troublesome...’
Amon’s breathing had already grown heavier.
His mana reserves were running dangerously low.
For a brief moment, the battlefield fell silent except for the faint crackling of broken concrete beneath the monster’s feet.
Then Amon moved again.
Clang!
Another sword strike slammed against the creature’s neck, producing that same irritating metallic sound.
Amon’s eyes turned cold.
In the next instant, he closed the distance between them.
Bang!
He smashed the hilt of his sword into the creature’s skull, forcing it heavily onto the ground.
Ding!
The Winter Frost Blade pierced through the creature’s stomach, one of the few weaker areas on its body, pinning it directly to the earth.
The humanoid monster screeched violently.
Its body twisted like a dying insect while black blood seeped through the cracks covering its skin.
Then Amon pulled out a bottle of fuel and poured it directly over the creature.
Low screeches escaped from the monster as it struggled desperately to escape.
But Amon merely sneered.
Stretching out his hand, his Flame Control Technique activated instantly.
Woosh!
Fire erupted across the creature’s body.
The flames spread rapidly through the cracks across its body, causing the black blood hidden within them to ignite as well.
Screeeechhhhhhh!!
The creature’s body convulsed violently.
Its limbs slammed repeatedly against the ground while distorted screeches echoed throughout the ruined dungeon.
The smell of burning flesh quickly spread through the air.
But it still couldn’t escape.
The Winter Frost Blade was a divine sword.
Escaping its restraint was impossible.
The flames continued burning intensely for several minutes before the creature’s screeches gradually weakened.
Before long, the humanoid monster became a charred corpse.
Amon retrieved the sword.
A crescent moon arc bloomed once more.
’Desolate Moon Sword Art.’
Bang!
The creature’s head exploded into fragments beneath the strike.
Amon glanced downward and noticed a dungeon crystal roll out from the corpse.
’Could this have been the boss monster?’
Amon furrowed his brows, wanting to explore the dungeon further when the system’s chime suddenly echoed inside his mind.
[Ding! Congratulations on completing the mission and clearing 20 dungeons.]
[Awakening Void Clone.]
[Ding! Master, you haven’t signed in for today. Do you wish to sign in?]
Amon was slightly startled by the system’s words, but he quickly realized he had spent over five hours clearing dungeons.
It was already one in the morning.
Without noticing it, an entirely new day had already begun.
After thinking briefly, he gave the order.
