The Drunk Wild Boar tavern was never short on entertainment. Brawls like this were a common occurrence, so much so that no one even batted an eye anymore.
At the bald thug’s table, his companions all heard Gray’s insult. A few of them were already on their feet, looking eager for a fight.
"Is there any other bald bastard here but you?"
Gray didn’t back down. He pulled out a Gold Coin and slapped it onto the table.
"Marian, I’m paying for your whole night. You stay here with me, and don’t go anywhere."
"Fuck! Who the hell do you think you are, flashing a couple of measly coins?!"
The bald man was furious. He reached out, trying to pull Marian from Gray’s side.
Gray slapped the man’s hand away.
"I’m warning you, don’t push your luck!"
"Motherfucker, you really think you’re hot shit? You dare to touch me?!"
Enraged, the bald man grabbed a clay wine jug and smashed it toward Gray’s head.
With great agility, Gray dodged aside as the jug missed. He immediately countered with an uppercut, right on the bald man’s chin!
It was an incredibly heavy blow. Struck on a vulnerable spot, the bald man briefly lost consciousness.
His body fell backward, stiff as a board, crashing through a wooden table and sending wine splashing everywhere.
Nearby patrons screamed and scrambled away in a panic.
Of course, Gray wasn’t going to let this opportunity pass. With a wild cry, he straddled the bald thug and began unleashing a furious barrage of left and right hooks.
"Shit! This kid dares to hit our guy!"
"Fuck him up!"
"Beat him into submission!"
The bald thug’s companions immediately got to their feet. Four or five of them pushed their way over, looking menacing.
"’Whoa, whoa, what’s happening... Are we having a full-on tavern brawl?’" Zelir was stunned as the situation escalated.
"’Looks like we can’t avoid it. Let’s go.’"
Marcus undid two buttons on his shirt and joined the fray.
He charged forward like a raging bull, barreling into the two men at the front, hoisting them onto his shoulders, and then violently slamming them to the ground.
THUD!
"Ugh...!"
The brutal slam made the bald man’s companions cry out in pain, their faces turning deathly pale.
"Can I use Magic?" Zelir asked.
"Not worth it. It’s just a tavern brawl. A single Wind Blade could kill a lot of people."
Although Valles didn’t seem like the hot-tempered type, he didn’t shy away from a fight like this.
Before making his move, Valles gave Zelir one last piece of advice.
"Just use your fists."
Then Valles grabbed a tankard and threw it.
It smashed squarely on the head of a man trying to sneak up on Gray from behind. Then, Valles rolled up his sleeves, charged in, and threw a straight punch that left his opponent with a bloody nose.
"Alright, alright..."
Zelir sighed.
The next second, he too grabbed a stool and joined the chaotic melee.
The atmosphere in the tavern reached a fever pitch as the onlookers cheered loudly.
Shouts of encouragement filled the air, like "Give him an uppercut!", "Elbow him!", and "Kick him in the balls!"
The barmaids shrieked and dodged out of the way, and the owner shouted himself hoarse trying to break up the fight, but it was all useless—nothing could stop this wild brawl fueled by alcohol and hormones.
The nights in Black Stone Town seemed to have gotten a little livelier.
...
CREAK—
With a soft sound, the wooden door of the Night Flower Inn was pushed open, letting in a rush of cool night air.
Behind the counter, Aurora, who had been staring blankly at a candle flame, was startled by the sound and immediately looked up.
"Oh, it’s Mr. Zelir... You’re just getting back now?"
But as Zelir walked in and the candlelight illuminated his face, Aurora got a clear look at him, and her expression froze.
Zelir looked a complete mess. His gray coat was stained with wine and dust, the corner of his mouth was bruised, and there was a scabbed-over cut by his eyebrow.
"Oh... are you hurt?" Aurora let out a small gasp.
"Ah... this?"
Zelir subconsciously touched his cheek. When he prodded the bruise, he couldn’t help but hiss in pain.
But he still waved his hand dismissively, trying to sound tough.
"It’s fine, just a scratch."
’In the tavern brawl earlier, even though they had won a resounding victory and beaten the other guys to a pulp, they hadn’t escaped completely unscathed.’
’It couldn’t be helped. Zelir was a Mage, after all, not a brawler. When faced with wild haymakers aimed at his face, he was bound to take a few hits.’
"How can you say it’s fine?"
Aurora’s brows furrowed slightly. Without another word, she pushed Zelir down into a chair near the fireplace. "Wait here, I’ll get some medicine."
"Uh... thank you."
Zelir rested for a moment, pressing his temples.
Before long, Aurora returned with a copper basin full of clean water and a towel draped over her arm.
After soaking the towel, Aurora wrung it out gently, leaving it just damp.
"This might sting a little, so please bear with it."
As Aurora drew closer, a faint scent of lavender wafted from her. She gently dabbed the bloody cut on Zelir’s face with the towel, her expression focused.
Unlike Valles’s rough and simple way of treating Gray, Aurora’s movements were filled with a distinctly feminine gentleness and care that was very soothing.
Because she was leaning over, a few strands of her wavy brown hair fell from behind her ear. With her movements, they lightly brushed against Zelir’s cheek, tickling him slightly.
"Actually, I’ve been meaning to ask you... Mr. Zelir, are you an Adventurer?" Aurora suddenly asked.
"Mm, yes, I am." Zelir nodded.
"Then you must have faced a lot of danger, right?"
"It hasn’t been too bad. I’ve dealt with everything as it comes," Zelir said with a smile.
"You’re amazing, Mr. Zelir," Aurora praised him sincerely.
’Aurora was actually a little older than Zelir, yet this boy, younger than she was, had left his home behind to come to a strange town and become an Adventurer all on his own.’
’That kind of courage was truly admirable.’
She took a small packet of white powder from her clothes, shook some out, and gently applied it to Zelir’s wound.
The cool sensation eased the stinging pain on his cheek considerably. Zelir said softly, "Thank you..."
"There’s no need to be so polite."
Aurora looked up, her smile sweet. "I just figure, since you’re so young and out here on your own, the journey must be hard. I just wanted to help a little."
"You tell me not to be so polite, but you’re still calling me Mr. Zelir," Zelir laughed.
Aurora blinked in surprise, then she understood. Her eyes crinkled into a smile, revealing her cute canine teeth.
"Then I’ll just call you by your name, Zelir."
"Of course."
"Hehe, from now on, I’ll be cheering for you when you go out on your missions!"
Aurora gathered the copper basin and towel and gave a playful tilt of her head.
"Goodnight, Zelir."
