“All the cats and dogs here look so clean and well-groomed—do you bathe them regularly?”

Du Xiaoxiao looked at the staff member leading the way, her voice tinged with curiosity.

She had never seen anything like this at other rescue stations. Most of them could barely afford to keep the animals fed, let alone spend extra money on grooming or baths.

The staff member chuckled at her question.

“We have people come in every week to give the dogs a proper bath. The cats get bathed less frequently, of course.”

“Doesn’t that put a strain on your budget?” Du Xiaoxiao asked, even more puzzled. With so many dogs, hiring people to bathe them must cost a fortune.

“It used to be a problem,” the staff member said proudly, “but not anymore. Our rescue station has a major backer now. With a big boss supporting us, money’s no longer something we worry about.”

Du Xiaoxiao nodded. That “big boss” must be the President Chen she’d heard about from the twin sisters at the coffee shop. Every time someone mentioned him, they spoke with unmistakable respect.

Clearly, President Chen held a high place in their hearts.

It was rare to see employees speak so highly of their boss—usually, people just complained. This only made Du Xiaoxiao more curious.

“So, does your rescue station accept donations or supplies?”

She turned to the staff member. Since she was already here, she figured she should do something to help—at the very least, donate some supplies to show her support.

“We don’t accept anything,” the staff member replied. “Our leadership has made it clear—we’re no longer classified as a rescue station. We’re now part of a company. All the animals here are under the care of Corner Pet Park. All expenses are covered by the park, so there’s no need for donations.”

Du Xiaoxiao was stunned.

After a moment, she began to understand. This must be President Chen’s doing—he was using his own money to help these stray animals.

After asking around, she finally found the people in charge—Pang Tao and Xu Zhengming.

“No need,” Pang Tao said with a smile. “Live streaming is great. It gives us a chance to promote Pet Park.”

He led Du Xiaoxiao to a makeshift shelter nearby.

“Du Xiaoxiao, right? So, what brings you here?” Pang Tao asked once they were inside.

Du Xiaoxiao answered honestly.

“I found out by chance that the cats at Nanhe Cat Café were all adopted from the rescue station. I came to see if that was true. If it is, I’d love to help spread the word. Kind-hearted efforts like this deserve more attention.”

“But the more I learned, the more curious I became, and that’s how I ended up here at Pet Park.”

“I want to know—was this park built to help stray cats and dogs?”

She looked up at Pang Tao, eager to hear his answer.

Pang Tao smiled and gazed out at the construction site, his eyes full of hope.

“The ultimate goal of building Pet Park is, of course, to help more stray animals.”

“But just giving and giving isn’t sustainable. Eventually, the money runs out.”

“That’s why we’re designing Pet Park to function like a zoo. Once it’s finished, we’ll open it to visitors and charge a small entrance fee. That revenue will go right back into caring for the animals. Over time, we hope this creates a self-sustaining cycle, so we won’t have to worry about running out of funds.”

“Of course, that cycle only works if we attract enough visitors.”

“To do that, we’re adding lots of interesting features to the park.”

“For example, we’ll have pet interaction zones where visitors can bring their own pets to play. We’ve set up several interactive activities and facilities.”

“We’re also planning a pet fashion show, where animals will strut down a runway in all kinds of outfits.”

“And we’re building a Cat Castle.”

Pang Tao laid out the entire vision for Pet Park.

He hoped that through the live stream, viewers would be intrigued and come visit once the park was open.

Du Xiaoxiao nodded in agreement as she listened.

If the park could generate income, it would definitely be better equipped to help stray animals. That much was clear.

“This Pet Park idea sounds a bit unrealistic. Who would pay to see cats and dogs? If you want to see them, just get a pet or visit a pet store.”
