Ace and Benny made their way home, each carrying a wooden bucket filled nearly to the brim with water from the communal well.

The water sloshed gently with every step, forcing them to walk much slower than usual.

For a while, neither father nor son spoke.

The village road was quiet, a few elderly villagers sat beneath trees chatting while several children chased one another through the dusty paths.

After several minutes, Ace finally broke the silence.

"Benny."

"Are you sure you can help Wang Guoqiang’s son?"

Benny looked over, his father’s expression was calm, but there was a trace of concern in his eyes.

"It’s better to be truthful than give someone false hope."

Wang Guoqiang had been their neighbor for decades.

The two families had known each other for as long as Benny could remember.

The moment Benny stepped through the gate, the woman looked up.

"Benny?"

Benny smiled.

"Aunty Wang."

The little girl also looked up and the moment she recognized him, she immediately sat up straighter.

Benny walked over carrying a small shopping bag.

Inside were a few things Selena had purchased during yesterday’s shopping spree.

Among them was a chocolate bar and two kilograms of sugar.

"When did you come back?"

Aunty Wang stood up with a surprised smile.

"Last night."

Benny nodded.

"We arrived pretty late."

Then he crouched beside the little girl.

"What are you studying?"

"Studying so hard already?"

He reached into the bag and pulled out the chocolate bar.

"Here."

Benny nodded.

"We met while fetching water."

A faint sigh escaped her lips.

"He’s been worried about that boy lately."

Benny naturally knew who she meant, Wang Jun.

"He’ll be fine."

Benny said confidently.

"I’ve actually been thinking about it."

Aunty Wang looked up.

"Thinking about what?"

"A job."

The moment Benny said those words, her movements stopped.

Even the little girl’s pencil paused briefly.

Benny didn’t notice.

His attention was already focused on explaining the brilliant idea he had invented less than two hours ago.

"Nothing complicated. I’ll probably get him to join the group that purchase agricultural products."

Aunty Wang blinked.

"Purchase agricultural products?"

"Vegetables, fruit, grain and things like that."

The more Benny explained, the more reasonable it sounded.

She only heard that he was seriously considering helping her son.

"Really?"

"Of course."

Benny nodded.

"I already promised Uncle Wang."

Seeing his sincere expression, her eyes softened.

She knew Benny well enough to know he wasn’t someone who casually made promises.
