Liraya lifted her head slowly, her once-luminous eyes now dulled by despair, locking onto Kronos with a gaze that pleaded for mercy. The sadness in her expression was profound, a silent cry from a being who had woven countless fates but never imagined her own unraveling like this.
Kronos, however, averted his eyes, his massive frame turning away as if her very presence repulsed him at this moment. The laughter from the council faded into an uneasy silence, the air in the grand hall thickening with anticipation. No one dared speak; the weight of what was to come after the only god who might have tried to protect her had turned his gaze away; it pressed down on them all. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Just as Kronos turned around, from the swirling mists above, a figure descended, hovering gracefully on a small, ethereal cloud that shimmered like condensed starlight. It was the Oracle, an ancient goddess named Elysara, whose form embodied the epitome of divine authority and respect. Her skin was like aged porcelain, etched with faint lines of wisdom that glowed faintly with inner power. Long, flowing robes of purest white draped her body, embroidered with symbols of prophecy that shifted and whispered secrets to those who listened closely. Her eyes were like pools of infinite knowledge, piercing through veils of time and deception.
She floated into the center of the hall, her cloud settling just above the platform where Liraya knelt, commanding the room without a word. The other gods straightened in their thrones, even the grotesque Gorath ceased his writhing, as Elysara’s presence demanded reverence. Only Kronos was undisturbed by her presence. He coldly sat on his throne.
Elysara’s voice rang out, clear and resonant, like the toll of a cosmic bell. It echoed through the hall, filling every corner with its unyielding tone. "Liraya, Weaver of Fates, you stand accused before the Court of Eternal Verdict. Let us recount your crimes, that justice may be served without shadow of doubt."
She paused, her gaze sweeping over the assembled gods, ensuring their attention. Liraya, however, shivered beneath her, the chains binding her wrists and ankles clinking softly, like a reminder of her captivity.
The Oracle continued without minding the sound of the chains, her words measured and precise. "First, negligence in stewardship. Entrusted with the world of Elyria, you allowed a corrupt soul to infiltrate and unleash a curse upon its inhabitants. This malice twisted the natural order, rendering most men infertile and dooming the realm to slow extinction. Villages emptied, societies fractured, all under your watch."
Murmurs of agreement rippled through the council. Vaeloria nodded sharply, her fiery hair flickering like flames. "Indeed, a guardian who sleeps while her charge burns."
Elysara raised a hand, silencing them. Her authority over these gods was absolute. "Second, deception and evasion of responsibility. Rather than confessing your failure and seeking the council’s aid, you concealed your error. You intercepted an innocent mortal soul and manipulated him into your service. You pawned off your divine duty on a mortal, hiding your shame."
Liraya’s breath hitched, her body trembling. The chains tinkled again as she shifted, but she remained silent, her head bowed once more.
"Third," Elysara intoned, her voice growing sterner with each sentence, "repeated offenses against the divine code. This is not your first transgression. You have botched fates before, allowed worlds to falter, and covered your tracks with cunning manipulations. Your laziness has endangered the balance of the cosmos time and time again. The council has shown leniency in the past, but no more."
The gods erupted in nods and grunts of approval. Zephyrion’s winds howled softly in agreement, while Thalor’s crystalline form hummed with resonant judgment. Kronos just folded his arms, his rune-etched skin glowing brighter with contained fury.
Elysara’s cloud descended slightly, bringing her closer to Liraya. The Oracle’s eyes bored into the accused, unblinking. "Now, I Elysara, the oracle of the council of the gods, the overseer of Pantheon, will now give punishment appropriate for your crimes."
She paused for a second, glancing at Kronos to see if he objects or not, then she continued again, "For these crimes, the punishments shall fit the severity. First, for negligence: you shall be stripped of your divine powers for the span of a mortal lifetime. No longer will you wield the threads of fate; you will live as one of the weavings you so carelessly spun."
Liraya’s face suddenly twisted in raw fear upon hearing that, her golden hair falling across her eyes like a veil of defeat. She shook her head violently, the chains clinking louder now, a frantic rhythm that echoed her panic. "No... please, not that," she whispered, her voice breaking for the first time.
Elysara continued, unmoved. "Second, for deception: you shall be cast into the very world you failed, ’Elyria’. There, you will face the consequences of your curse firsthand. With no divine privileges, no escape. You will live among the mortals, experiencing the infertility, the twisted societies, the desperation you inflicted upon them."
The hall filled with approving murmurs. "Hmm, Appropriate," Gorath gurgled, his tentacles slapping in satisfaction. Vaeloria also spoke silently, "Yeah, let her taste the rot she allowed to spread."
"And lastly, the third, for your repeated offenses: upon the end of your mortal exile, your return to the pantheon will be conditional. You must prove redemption through service on that world, or face eternal banishment to the void."
Liraya could hold back no longer. She lunged forward on her knees, chains rattling like thunder, her hands clasped in desperate supplication. "Please, have Mercy! Please, Oracle, council, have mercy! I can’t be sent to that world. It’s broken because of me, yes, but stripping my powers? Throwing me among mortals? I’ll be helpless, vulnerable! I beg you, a lighter punishment, anything but this! Imprison me here, bind me eternally, but don’t cast me down! Please! "
Her voice rose to a wail, echoing off the ethereal walls. Tears of pure light streamed down her face, evaporating into sparks that fizzled out harmlessly. The gods just watched impassively, some with smirks of satisfaction. Vaeloria leaned back in her throne, crossing her legs. "Begging suits you, Weaver. But it’s too late for pleas. This is justice. Now face it like a goddess you are."
Kronos stepped forward again, his massive hand gesturing toward the Oracle. "The verdict is sound. I wholeheartedly agree with this verdict."
The other gods also nodded in unison, their voices blending into a chorus. "Appropriate." "Fitting." "Long overdue." Even the non-humanoid ones, Zephyrion’s winds whispering assent, Thalor’s chimes ringing in agreement, joining the consensus.
Seeing how everyone in the council was against her, Liraya’s frustration boiled over into silent fury, but she bit her tongue, knowing further protest would only seal a worse fate than she got.
Elysara raised her arms, and the hall’s light intensified, focusing on Liraya like a spotlight of judgment. She spoke loudly, "The stripping begins."
With the command, one by one, all the gods started to channel their essence, threads of power weaving toward Liraya from every throne.
First came the loss of her immortality, with it a searing pain came, that ripped through her core, making her gasp as her eternal lifespan condensed into a fragile mortality. Her skin, once flawless and glowing, began to wrinkle faintly at the edges, age spots hinting at the vulnerability to come. "No... stop!" she cried, writhing against her chains. Without heeding her plea, the gods continued doing their thing.
Next, her weaving abilities started to dissolve. The silver threads that had defined her existence unraveled from her fingertips, evaporating into nothingness. She felt the void keenly, like losing limbs she never knew she could live without. Her strength waned, her aura dimming from a radiant halo to a mere flicker. The gods watched impassively as she weakened second by second, her screams filling the hall. "It hurts! Please, I can’t bear it! Ahhh... "
In a final surge, her divine senses shattered, her ability to see fates, to manipulate destinies, all were gone. Liraya collapsed forward, chains holding her up, on her knees, her body convulsing with pain.
She lunged desperately, trying to claw at the nearest gods, her nails scraping uselessly against the air. "Aghh, you bastards! I’ll make you pay! I’ll make you pay for this! Aghhh.." But the chains held firm, yanking her back with a metallic snap.
Elysara nodded to a god in the shadows, and a slender figure named Vortheon stepped forward. He was the Opener of Ways.
Just as he stepped forward, his hands started glowing with portal energy. With a wave of his hand, a swirling vortex tore open in the center of the platform, its edges crackling with Elyria’s familiar essence: scents of pine, earth, and distant rivers wafting through.
Kronos approached once more, his grip like iron as he hauled Liraya to her feet. She dangled limply, her now-mortal body was frail in his hold.
She continued to beg even to this last moment, "Kronos... please," she begged him one last time, her voice a hoarse whisper. "We were partners once, right? We were lovers, Kronos. Don’t do this to me. I beg you. Don’t do it."
He met her eyes briefly, his expression cold. But he still kept dragging her toward the portal. He just said softly, "It is for your own good, Liraya. Don’t hate me for this."
With that, he hurled her into the portal, her body tumbling through the void like a discarded rag.
Liraya’s final scream echoed as the vortex swallowed her, her stare fixed on Kronos until the last moment. The portal snapped shut with a thunderous clap, sealing her fate in silence.
