Lys kept walking toward home, one hand resting on the hilt of CorpseSlayer where it hung at his waist. The sword’s weight felt good, solid, like it belonged there, making him feel a little confident, too.

But as one question was answered, ten more popped up in his mind along with it. Questions like, who made a sword like this in the first place? Was there anyone else out there like him...another reincarnated guy with a blessing? But if so, where were they? Why hadn’t they stopped the curse already? The house finally came into view at the end of the lane, the front yard looking way better than when he’d first bought this house. Vegetables, herbs, and bright little flowers filled neat rows, the dirt still fresh with water and care from today’s work.

As he entered the yard area, he could see Mira was bent over in the middle of it, her back to him, pulling weeds. Her thin work dress had ridden up high on her thighs from all the crouching.
