Xylen, "_"
’This response...’ He thought before returning to his senses.
"I... don’t get it," he finally admitted, his voice quieter and laced with confusion. "Does a Demon not need food or water to survive?"
"Yes, my Lord," Lilith responded almost immediately, her voice ringing with conviction.
Xylen’s heart pounded, the weight of her words crashing into him. "How is that possible?"
It was finally Lilith’s turn to stare at him in a trance.
She was perplexed by Xylen’s reaction for a second before finally, understanding dawned in her eyes. Then, she smiled—no, she beamed, pride radiating from her like an aura.
"Because we are demons — the strongest, most dominant race in existence," she declared, her voice overflowing with arrogance.
Xylen’s lips twitched at the arrogant response.
’Demon and... ’best’ in the same sentence?’ He thought speechlessly.
In his previous life, demons weren’t just hated—they were utterly despised as the very embodiment of evil. It was to the extent that no one had ever bothered to understand them, making them the most loathed race in the Fallen Realm.
Yet, according to Lilith...
Xylen’s mind raced. "So, Demons don’t need food or water to survive?" he asked dazedly.
"Yes, my Lord," Lilith responded without hesitation, nodding her head seriously.
"While eating and drinking also strengthen our bodies and replenish energy, which is certainly advisable to do, we wouldn’t actually die without them—unlike the other races, who despise us to the bone out of sheer jealousy," she added with a snort.
’This...’
Xylen’s jaw dropped, unable to respond for a moment, then...
"Wow," he whispered, stunned.
Although it might seem simple and unremarkable, in reality, it was of immense significance.
Many quests and missions usually take days, weeks, or even months to complete—days spent in desolate, unforgiving terrains where finding food and water was impossible. But if one didn’t require either to survive, didn’t that mean they could push forward relentlessly, never needing to stop, never fearing hunger or thirst?
It would be an overwhelming advantage, one that could turn the tide of any mission.
Thinking this, Xylen’s eyes shined brightly.
’Why wasn’t this information available in my past life?’ he couldn’t help but suddenly wonder, but then the response appeared naturally.
’The demons were so despised that no one ever cared to understand anything about them, so, how would anyone know?’ he thought, and with this realization, a slow smirk crept onto Xylen’s lips.
’As long as I manage to lessen the natural hatred toward demons by boosting my Luck and Charisma stats, this might just somehow become the most overpowered race ever,’ he realized, excitement surging through him like lightning.
His eyes burned with determination and without hesitation, he glanced back at Lilith.
"So, back to the discussion..." he said, switching the topics.
Lilith, still glowing with pride over her race’s supremacy instantly returned to her senses, then taking a steadying breath, she gave a firm nod, already understanding Xylen’s words.
"Besides me, there are two people in the mansion we can truly rely on," she began, her tone laced with gravity.
Xylen’s eyes narrowed. "Just... two?"
Lilith caught the flicker of disappointment in his gaze and quickly continued, her voice softening.
"However, apart from these two, there’s a hidden organization in the village that would definitely join our assault tomorrow," she revealed, her words hanging in the air like a fragile hope.
Hufff!
Xylen released a slow, heavy sigh, a mix of exhaustion and relief flooding through him. "Tell me everything then," he urged, leaning forward, the room growing heavier with anticipation.
.....
As it stood, the two loyal guards, Lilith explained, were the last surviving remnants of his avatar’s parents’ guards—warriors who had endured the Celestial race’s ruthless slaughter.
They had then outmaneuvered Kaelrik’s background checks and infiltrated the mansion under the guise of lowly guards, all to watch over Xylen from the shadows, waiting for the right moment to strike if necessary.
According to Lilith, their loyalty ran so deep that they had risked their lives to inform her of Kaelrik’s scheme, begging her to flee with Xylen — the reason she’d been sobbing when he awoke that morning.
As for the organization Lilith had mentioned.
It wasn’t just a scattered group of rebels, but a tightly bound brotherhood forged in agony and hatred.
Every member was a villager who had lost something — a loved one, a home, or even a part of themselves — to Kaelrik’s cruelty, so, their entire existence had always revolved around the singular goal of tearing the tyrant down, piece by bloody piece.
Xylen absorbed every word, his mind racing.
The immense weight of their hidden sacrifices and unwavering resolve ignited something deep within him—a spark of excitement for completing the quest.
"This organization—do you know how I could meet their leader?" he asked, and upon hearing him, Lilith’s face suddenly flushed red, looking unexpectedly embarrassed.
’Huh?’
Xylen tilted his head, caught off guard. "Is he... your man?" he asked, genuinely puzzled.
Lilith instantly snorted, her eyes gleaming with disdain. "My Lord, who in this village could ever be worthy of Lilith?" she sneered.
Xylen’s lips twitched.
"Then..." he pressed.
Lilith’s face instantly burned an even deeper shade of crimson, and after what felt like an eternity, she finally muttered, her voice barely above a whisper:
"You’re... you’re currently sitting before front, My Lord."
The words hit like a thunderclap.
Xylen blinked, stunned then...
"This is perfect!" he blurted, his excitement suddenly breaking through like sunlight piercing a storm.
"Huh?"
Lilith blinked, utterly flabbergasted. "You... you’re not going to mock me?"
Xylen, "_"
"Why would I? Isn’t this even better?" he asked, genuinely confused.
"I..."
Lilith’s lips parted, her tongue momentarily silenced.
She sat there, stunned for a second, then... her heart swelled with relief.
This was why she had avoided answering his question from the start — she had feared his scorn. But now...
"I’ve already sent a secret message to the members," she said, her voice steady despite the lingering warmth in her chest. "They should be gathering now. If you’re ready, I can take you to them."
Xylen’s eyes instantly gleamed with a predatory hunger. "What are we waiting for?" he growled.
Without wasting a second, Lilith fetched the black robe, carefully cloaking Xylen in its shadowy embrace. Then, without another word, the two slipped into the night.
Another step closer to a successful mission.
