Adam stood in front of one of the largest jewelry shops in the city and adjusted the collar of his expensive coat.
The disguise felt strange, but effective.
White hair covered the black completely. Wrinkles had been shaped across his face well enough to survive a close look. The contact lenses had dulled his eyes. Even his posture had changed. He leaned more on the cane, kept his shoulders narrower, and moved with the quiet patience of someone used to being served.
’I couldn’t keep using pawn shops for long. There aren’t enough of them, and if I sold much more, someone would start connecting the pattern.’ Adam thought.
That was why he had changed strategy.
The new one was riskier today.
That was also why he had changed his face.
’If I fail here, at least the face they remember won’t be mine.’ Adam thought.
He stepped through the front doors.
The inside of the store was bright, polished, and built to impress. Glass cases gleamed under soft lighting. Gold and diamond displays were arranged like museum pieces.
A receptionist approached him almost at once.
The man gave him one quick look, took in the elegant clothes, the cane, the refined shoes, and the slow confidence in his posture, then bowed his head slightly. "Sir, how may I help you today?"
Adam cut across him before he could finish.
"Shut up," he said coldly. "I don’t like talking to small people. Call your manager."
The receptionist froze.
For a brief second, irritation flashed across the man’s face.
Then training won.
He stepped back at once.
’Good. People like this understand hierarchy before they understand words.’ Adam thought.
The receptionist gave a stiff nod and hurried to the desk. He made the call, his eyes flicking back toward Adam more than once.
A man in a suit soon emerged from inside.
He was older than the receptionist, smoother, and much better at hiding his thoughts. He walked over, smiling, and bowed slightly. "Sir, I am the manager of this jewelry shop. Please tell me what you need."
Adam looked at him for a moment before answering.
Then, deliberately, he lowered his voice.
People with money did not need to shout. Confidence carried better when spoken slowly.
"Show me your most expensive jewelry," Adam said. "My wife’s birthday is coming. I intend to surprise her."
The manager laughed politely, exactly as Adam expected.
"Of course, sir," the manager said. "Please come with me."
He led Adam deeper into the shop.
This section was more secure than the front displays. The lighting changed. The cases were thicker. Adam also noticed the guards immediately.
Several of them were positioned around the room, pretending not to stare while absolutely staring.
’Keep looking. I am going to rob this place in front of your eyes, and none of you will notice a thing.’ Adam thought.
’Stay focused. One wrong move here and this whole disguise becomes worthless.’ Adam thought.
Once the manager took him farther inside, the guards’ attention loosened a little.
Good. No close witnesses.
The manager began presenting item after item with careful enthusiasm. Diamond necklaces. Diamond bracelets. Rings bright enough to gather the light around them. Gold pieces heavy enough to feel like status by weight alone.
While the manager spoke, his own greed was easy to read. Every expensive item he displayed was another possible commission in his head.
Adam saw it clearly.
’Go on. Keep smiling. The more expensive you sell, the richer you think you’re about to become.’ Adam thought.
He moved through the collection slowly, giving himself time.
He touched one necklace while pretending to inspect the cut of the stones.
Copy.
A second necklace followed.
Copy.
A gold bracelet.
Copy.
Another diamond set.
Copy.
He kept going, calm and careful, never lingering too long on the touch, never making it obvious.
The manager kept talking.
The guards kept watching from too far away.
The system kept responding.
By the time Adam touched the eighth piece, his inventory was full again.
Two gold pieces.
Six diamond pieces.
Exactly what he wanted.
Then he straightened.
The manager paused.
Adam’s face hardened.
"Are you insane?" Adam snapped. "Do you take me for some kind of fool? Do you think I would buy trash like this?"
The manager’s expression changed instantly.
The shock on his face was real.
Adam almost felt bad.
Almost.
He pulled a thick folded wad of cash from his pocket and flicked it toward the manager with open contempt. The bundle struck the man’s chest before falling into his hands.
"Within one week," Adam said coldly, "I want something far better. Much more expensive. Diamond necklaces worthy of my time."
For one wild second, the manager looked like he wanted to throw himself at the money and thank Adam in the same motion.
But he held himself together.
Barely.
He bowed his head. "Thank you, sir. It will be done." 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Adam gave no reply.
He simply turned and began walking out.
The manager followed him all the way, smiling in visible delight now that the danger had passed and the tip was already in his hand.
That was exactly what Adam wanted.
If the manager himself escorted him out, then the guards would not interfere.
And they did not.
Adam walked straight out of one of the most secure jewelry stores in the city with eight copied pieces sitting safely inside his inventory.
The manager continued following until they reached the front entrance.
There, confusion touched the man’s face.
He had expected a car. A driver. At least some visible sign of wealth waiting outside.
There was none.
Only the old man, the cane, the clothes, and the street.
But by then Adam was already moving away, leaving the manager to stand there with his tip, and his questions.
