“Pfft! Pffhahaha...”
“... Pfhhhhahahahahah.”
As soon as the carriage door closed after the inspection, Rachel Watson and Lupin burst into a roaring fit of laughter. They had been biting their tongue to hold back their laughter all the while, and all that accumulated laughter tore through into a howling fit of unrestrained guffawing.
“Don’t laugh...”
Adler, meanwhile, just scolded them with a deep blush on his face.
“Feeling snarky, aren’t we?”
“... I’m not joking here.”
“You look so pretty even when you’re angry. You’re not scaring anyone with that face of yours.”
However, as Lupin and Watson stared at him unblinking, not paying any heed to his words, Adler could only leak out a sigh of despair. Bowing his head, he began grumbling in an annoyed tone.
“The disguise is good and all... but why on earth make me wear a skirt...? I could get away with wearing trousers just fine...”
“Ah, you lack professional spirit. What kind of girl would even wear trousers in this weather?”
“But...”
“Stop mumbling. I was naked while being trapped in your briefcase for days. You have no right to say anything.”
But as Watson slightly raised her eyebrows and shot back, challenging him to defy her words, Adler stopped speaking, seemingly running out of arguments with the doctor’s perfect jab.
“Even when you pout, you look really cute...”
“Ah, fuck. I told you not to...”
“Look at this behaviour... What kind of respectable lady would talk so crudely?”
Lupin abruptly hugged his body from the side, looking intently at the annoyed Adler as he grumbled for some time before saying,
“I even developed a voice modulation magic just for you, it’ll all go down to waste if you give it away because of your speech and tone.”
“.........”
“Come on, try again. What if someone gropes you like this?” 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
Clenching his teeth and trembling, Adler eventually squeezed his eyes shut and opened his mouth.
“Kyaa, Kyaaah...”
“Pfft...”
“... Don’t do it.”
“Puahahahahahaha!”
At his shy scream, Lupin laughed so hard that tears started pooling in her eyes.
“Enough.”
Before long, a stern voice emerged from Lupin’s side.
“Don’t trick Master.”
“Tsk...”
Threatened by the hound that sprang from Adler’s shadow, Lupin quietly clicked her tongue and sat down obediently.
“Wh-Whaat...”
“.......?”
“Yo-Youu...”
Just then, Watson’s voice tinged in fear echoed from the front.
- Shh...
But before she could finish, the hound’s tail lowered and it hid behind Adler, trembling.
“”..........””
And with that, silence descended in the carriage for some time.
“Poppy, what’s wrong...?”
“... Maybe not?”
In that silence, both Adler and Watson murmured with puzzled looks of their own.
“You’re disgustingly strong, aren’t you? Then, why are you hiding behind Adler?”
Displeased, Lupin threw the question at the hound in a snarky voice.
“What nonsense are you spouting? Master is strong.”
“... Adler?”
“He could subdue someone like me with just a snap of his fingers. Otherwise, I would have no reason to follow.”
As she responded naturally, Watson could not help but frown before speaking,
“No matter how I think about it, he’s significantly weaker than you... To be honest, he would even lose to me in sheer physical prowess alone.”
“Nonsense. I’ll show you.”
“.......?”
Sighing, the hound suddenly pounced on Adler who was just looking on with a confused gaze toward them.
“Poppy, what are you doing?”
- Squeeze...
As she grabbed both his arms and pushed him down, Adler, now fully pinned under the hound, could not help but show a bewildered look as he asked,
“... Master?”
Meanwhile, the hound, exerting all her power to pin down her master’s body and seeing no resistance, wore a similarly confused expression. Just for a very different reason.
“Is this... a joke? Is that it?”
“This is no joke, Master.”
At the sound of Adler’s frightened voice, the hound of Baskervilles bared her teeth and whispered dangerously in his ear.
“Please, I need you to swiftly subdue me and show those unruly females what it means to cross you. This is the most effective way to discipline these bitches.”
And the next moment,
“If you don’t resist, I’ll bite you.”
“..... What?”
Opening her mouth wide, the girl, eyes glowing eerie blue, buried her head in Adler’s neck.
“E-Eek...”
Terrified by the hound’s predatory act, Adler desperately tried to push her away with all his might.
“.........”
Unsurprisingly, the hound did not budge even a bit no matter what Adler did.
... Master is weak?
As the hound zoned out briefly, disbelief marring her face, a blasphemous thought crossed her mind. It did not take long for the thought to take root deep in her psyche.
“I’m feeling a bit scared, Poppy... Could you get off now...”
Pleading, Adler requested the hound atop him in a pitiful voice.
“..........”
Hearing his meek words, the girl stared at him for a long moment. Abruptly, she buried her face in his neck and put more strength in her hold.
“... Gah...”
“Hi-Hiilk...”
Shortly after, razor-sharp teeth started sinking into Adler’s neck.
MasterisweakMaster’sweakMasterweak.......
“Save me....”
Just like that, as usual, Adler’s plan backfired, betrayed by the last measure that he had absolute confidence in.
“Should... Shouldn’t we be stopping this?”
“... How are we supposed to stop someone stronger than us?”
Watson could not help but look at him with pity and muttered to Lupin. In response, she responded in an indifferent tone, completely unbothered.
“Just leave it. She’s just showing her dominance over Adler.” 1
“Hmm...”
Due to that, till the carriage reached its destination, Adler’s distorted voice continuously echoed inside.
- Swoosh, swish...
“Haaah...”
“... No matter how I see it, that looks a bit too excessive for a display of dominance.”
.
.
.
.
.
An unknown amount of time later,
“........”
“... I’m sorry.”
After regaining his senses, Adler found himself with a deep bite mark on his neck while his hair and clothes were utterly dishevelled from the tussle he had with the hound from hell. He staggered out of the carriage, still dizzy, while receiving a pitiful apology from the hound who had finally returned to her senses.
“I didn’t expect you to humour me to that extent.”
“... Poppy, stop growling and get inside my shadow.” 2
“Then... I will be on standby again.”
No sooner she said, the hound melted back into Adler’s shadow. Only this time, she was gazing at Adler’s back with a different light in her eyes.
“Excuse me. Even after all that, you still think that dreadful creature is a puppy?”
“... Poppy might be as big as a wolf, but yes she is still a puppy to me.”
“Sigh...”
Watching the scene play out, Watson could not help but chide him for his stupidity. However, she could only shake her head in resignation after hearing Adler’s disheartened response.
“So, what’s the purpose of you coming here in disguise?”
“... We need to create a rift within the group that’s inside this hideout.”
Finally, she gave up on persuading Adler further about the hound’s reality. Sighing again, she queried him, prompting Adler to respond to her in a whisper while massaging his sore neck.
“What kind of group is it?”
“Well... from what I’ve heard, it’s quite a nasty one. Extortion, threats... they commit horrific acts of terror on companies that don’t pay up...”
“That sounds just like a gang.”
“Yeah, they’re pretty much on that level.”
Narrowing her eyes, Watson queried him again, voice grave.
“Wait... are you seriously planning to use your charm to get your way with them? You’ve truly hit rock bottom, haven’t you?”
“No, it’s not that...”
“All the members are women.”
Flustered, Adler was about to respond but Lupin answered in his stead, cutting him off mid-sentence.
“So that’s why you’re disguised as a woman...?”
“... To join their gang as a spy, I need to look like a woman.”
“That’s true, but... how long are you planning to keep impersonating a girl? Forever?”
“Only until the case is resolved.”
Adler could not help but sigh at their words. Tired of the act already.
“Isn’t this too dangerous...?”
“I have the world’s greatest thief as my escort, and even Poppy can pitch in from my shadows if needed. With them here, nothing can touch me.”
“Didn’t you just get attacked by that thing you call a dog just moments ago?”
“... It was just mounting, not a big deal. It’s a dog’s instinct.” 3
Delivering those words, Adler stood before the entrance of the hideout. Grasping the doorknob, a stern, no-nonsense expression took over his face.
“Anyway, please prepare yourself. I am about to show you how much of a delinquent I can be.”
“It’s a gang hideout, you know.”
“... According to the information, these people like rough and nasty stuff. So...”
Then, Adler took a deep breath.
- Bang...!!!
“Wait, that doesn’t mean you need to go that far...”
“Hello!!”
As he suddenly kicked open the door and entered the bar, the eyes of all the gruff members of the gang zeroed in on him at the same time, forgetting about their drinks.
“I’m Irene...!”
Energetically, Adler continued his self-introduction, looking at all of them with a fierce expression.
“... Kheh.”
However, before he could even finish speaking, he slumped down on the spot with a thud.
“”..........””
Following that was an awkward silence with no one knowing how to react.
“Kulluk, kullu...”
“Uh, um... So...”
In that silence, Watson, noticing the blood flowing from Adler’s mouth, began to sweat profusely and desperately started to make excuses.
“She’s been frail since birth... and recently, she got diagnosed with a terminal disease.”
“Oh, that’s not it. I’m totally a rogue delinq... Ugh.”
“... She just wanted to live the last few months of her life recklessly, like a badass bitch, that’s all.”
Hearing that, the members looked at each other with a blank gaze, disbelief evident in each and every one of their gazes.
“Maybe you could accept her into your fold...?”
“Uuuu...”
Soon, their fierce expressions began to crack and soften,
“... Rookie, come and sit down here.”
“You look so pretty...”
“Fancy doing some strength training with this big sis, aye?”
“This, this isn’t what I meant...”
.
.
.
.
.
Several days later,
“””...........?”””
After a furious voyage through the seas to arrive in America, the expressions of Professor Moriarty and Holmes’ party, who were searching for traces of Adler, began to stiffen simultaneously.
“Mr Adler... What on earth is up with this appearance?”
“What has he been doing exactly?”
“... He’s finally lost his damn mind.”
The reason for their reaction was an article prominently featured in the American weekly newspaper they had opened, hoping to find any sightings of Adler.
Vicious Break-in in the Newspaper Headquarters, Editor-in-Chief in Critical Condition- Yesterday morning, our editor, Mr. Stanger, received a brutal beating with a club, resulting in serious injuries...
- The perpetrators stated that the editor had sullied the lady called Irene Adler by looking at her with lecherous eyes. The assailants' whereabouts are currently unknown...Alongside was a photo of Adler, completely resigned, surrounded by women wielding clubs, looking utterly adorable in a princess dress.
Footnotes
. The word that was directly used here was 마운팅 which means mounting. Now, this typically refers to a dog suppressing someone to show its dominance. I believe that was what the author was referring to here and another line below it. So, instead of the confusing term for it, I used something more understandable. If there are any mistakes, you can correct me.. It may seem weird but you have to know that Adler doesn’t see the Hound of Baskervilles in its girl form, only in its large dog form. For some reason, he is not able to see her. So, when she talks, Adler thinks that she is growling. The author never really revealed why that was the case.. Mounting or a show of dominance among dogs. I have already explained this before in the previous footnotes.
