- Chapter 1: Transmigated to a world headed towards ruin
After inspecting the truck, Leo grabbed a few plastic containers from the cabin and headed back into the dark building.
Earlier, while scouting the floors, he had spotted a few items that might come in handy. He quickly gathered them up, packed them into the containers, and hauled them back to the truck.
By the time he finished loading the final container , night had fully fallen. The world outside was wrapped in an eerie, unusual silence.
His stomach growled, reminding him of how hard he’d been working. He ripped open a packet of compressed biscuits, chewed through them, and washed them down with the last few drops of water in his bottle. Exhausted, he collapsed onto the truck’s bed, staring at the ceiling and trying to figure out his next move.
That was when it hit him , he had completely forgotten to check the two cards he’d picked up after killing the zombies.
The sheer excitement of unlocking the Apocalypse Truck and hoarding supplies had made him completely forget about this matter .
He reached down, pulled the two cards from his belt, and held them up to the dim light.
One was white , the other was a vibrant orange. A small text line on the orange one confirmed it: Rare.
By now, Leo had collected four different types of cards, and he was starting to figure out the color-coded tier system:
White: Common
Green: Uncommon
Orange: Rare
Purple: Epic
He flipped the white card over first.
Common Card: Rice × 3 kg
Leo’s eyes lit up. He had just salvaged a rice cooker from the building earlier. But the excitement faded as quickly as it came when he remembered a glaring problem ,he had no clean water. He didn’t dare touch the tap water in the building, terrified it might be infected with the zombie virus. In this world, a single reckless mistake meant death.
Shaking his head, he pushed the rice card aside and turned his full attention to the orange one.
Rare Card: 6 Blocks of C-4 Explosive
Leo stared at the card, his heart skipping a beat. A wild, ambitious plan instantly formed in his mind , a way to level up fast and farm a massive number of cards without putting himself in direct danger.
"System," Leo asked internally, "if I use these explosives to kill zombies from a distance, does it still count as my kill? Will I get the cards, or do I have to kill them with my own hands?"
The system’s cold, mechanical voice echoed in his mind.
[Replying to Host... If you kill zombies using a tool or material that you planted yourself, it will count as your kill.]
[However, you must remain within a 2 km radius of the detonation site so the system can absorb the essence to strengthen your body. This radius can be upgraded in the future.]
[To know more, the system advises the host to stop having unrealistic fantasies and focus on leveling up quickly.]
Leo ignored the system’s attitude and pressed on. "One more thing. Can you remotely collect the dropped cards and energy crystals for me?"
[Replying to Host... The system can remotely harvest the crystals, but it will claim 30% of the total yield as a processing fee.]
[As for the cards, the system cannot collect them remotely. However, your belt features an automatic retrieval function that will instantly pull in any cards within a 5-meter radius of your position."]
A 30% cut hurt, and Leo winced at the steep price. Still, he shrugged it off. Something was definitely better than nothing, and the crazy plan cooking in his head absolutely required the system’s help.
With his strategy locked in, Leo slid off the bed and hurried over to the containers he had just brought in from the building. He popped the lids off and began rummaging through the random junk, tossing aside old tools and clothes.
Finally, his hand brushed against the object at the bottom of the last crate. He pulled it out, a grin spreading across his face. He had found exactly what he needed to set the trap.
