"You’re too kind, Captain Luo."

Yang Qi waved his hand, his tone calm. "The equipment doesn’t need to be too complicated. Basic observation and recording tools will do—things like high-powered flashlights, infrared night-vision goggles, and a remote recording device to capture and analyze sounds from the scene."

"Also, prepare a few small, non-lethal animal traps, just in case we need to temporarily contain something."

With that said, he spoke no more, pulled open the car door, and got in.

The police car started and slowly drove away.

Yang Bo was left standing alone, his face alternating between pale and livid. He was disappointed that his report had failed, but even more so, he found it unbelievable and unacceptable that Yang Qi had suddenly become an "Animal Expert."

He subconsciously turned to look at the gate to Yang Qi’s yard and met Yang Qi’s calm gaze.

Instantly, as if his tail had been stepped on, Yang Bo forced out a snort. He raised a hand to wipe the tip of his nose with the back of his fingers, trying to strike his usual provocative pose. Then he lifted his chin, turned, and strode away with his signature thuggish swagger.

Watching his pretentious retreat, Yang Qi’s eyes flickered. A thread of Magical Power coalesced at his fingertip as he locked onto his target with his mind.

An invisible thread of Magical Power flashed through the air and wrapped precisely around Yang Bo’s ankle as he took a step.

Yang Bo felt as if his feet were suddenly tripped by something pliable, and his entire body stumbled forward uncontrollably!

Fortunately, his reflexes were quick enough. He threw his hands out to break his fall, narrowly avoiding a face-plant. Still, he ended up tumbling messily on the ground a couple of times, covering himself in dust and dirt.

"Brother Bo, what happened to you?"

Yang Qi called out from where he stood, his voice laced with the perfect amount of "concern." "Are you okay? You can’t just stare at the sky when you’re walking. You’ve got to watch your step."

"That’s right!"

An old man who had been watching the commotion from under a nearby tree, and who had seen the whole thing, now hobbled over with his cane. He shook his head and chimed in, "Yang Bo, look at you, so reckless when you walk! You should learn from Yang Qi here. Be more steady!"

Still shaken, Yang Bo scrambled to his feet. He first glanced frantically at his own feet, then at the flat ground around him.

Aside from a few small pebbles, there were no obvious obstacles.

Hearing the words of Yang Qi and the old man, his face burned with humiliation. He was convinced he had just tripped over his own feet and made a huge fool of himself in front of his rival and a neighbor!

A wicked surge of anger—a mixture of shame, embarrassment, and his long-held resentment toward Yang Qi—rushed to his head.

"It’s none of your business! Stop being so nosy, you old fossil!"

He roared at the old man, then whipped around to face Yang Qi, his finger trembling as he cursed, "Yang Qi! Cut the phony crap! It’s none of your damn business if I fall or not! Don’t think you’re so great just because you’re buddy-buddy with the cops. What’s there to show off about that piece-of-shit car? Who knows how you even got it! And that thing in your yard..."

He cursed with gusto, spittle flying everywhere.

The old man was stunned by his shouting, then became so angry his beard trembled. He shook his head repeatedly. "No manners, what a lack of manners! How could Dazhi have raised a son like this!"

Yang Qi’s expression remained impassive. He simply raised his hand and gestured lightly toward his yard.

"WOOF!"

"WOOF WOOF WOOF!"

Bai Wan, Hu Zi, and Leopard, who had heard the commotion and could no longer restrain themselves, immediately charged out of the yard.

They were well-trained and didn’t attack directly, but stood side-by-side in front of Yang Qi, letting out low, intimidating barks at Yang Bo.

Hu Zi and Leopard, in particular, exuded the unmistakable aura of retired police dogs—their gazes sharp, their muscles tensed.

Yang Bo’s cursing stopped abruptly, as if his throat had been squeezed shut.
