Will of a Prince

"As you mentioned before, if these powers choose someone who is destined to hold influence, it means that there is a purpose or reason behind why they get the power. That leads us back to the question of: where did these powers come from? I have a crazy theory that may just explain it."

Jacob tensed, preparing for what he was about to hear.

"What if these powers that are being given to everyone come from someone who has a power themself?"

Jacob’s face went numb. It was crazy. An absolutely insane thought. But... was it really though? There already seemed to be powers that Jacob would have thought to be impossible if he didn’t know they existed. His father or uncle were perfect examples.

"Wait, if someone’s power is to give other people powers, wouldn’t that make them a blessing user?"

"That’s exactly what I thought. However, then we have to question how they’re able to know who is destined to hold influence over the world in some way. That’s when I came upon my next few theories. I believe there is another user of a god-like power similar to theirs. Someone who is able to see and manipulate destiny to their will."

Jacob felt like he was about to pass out. These premonitions were all madness, but they made too much sense to him to be false.

"Then that would make the other person a rend user."

A few more dots connected in Jacob’s brain, and he jumped out of his seat, forgetting that his legs were against him today. He almost fell but managed to catch himself on his professor’s desk at the last moment.

"Wait... THEN DOES THAT MEAN-"

The professor threw a hand over his mouth.

"Keep your voice down. This information is highly valuable. If the public were to find out about this, whether it ends up being true or not, who knows what will happen."

Jacob calmed himself before sitting down again.

"I know what you were about to say, and the answer is yes. If there is a blessing user and a rend user, then it is only logical to assume there is a curse user among them as well. To be honest with you, since curse users can only confide their power to themselves to our knowledge, I am unsure what their power may be. But if it has a power similar to the likes of the other two, it could be the scariest power of the three."

Jacob’s brain hurt trying to process all this information. This changed everything he knew about powers and their users. This means Maria was blessed by some greater being because of her destiny. This also means that whoever this is, does not differentiate between good and evil influence. If there was a balance between the two, he wouldn’t have any idea of knowing it.

"I really hate to bring even more terrifying news, but I have one last conclusion I came to."

Jacob started rubbing his face.

’What else could there possibly be? All of this is crazy!’

"If we were to assume that three people or beings do hold these powers, it is also reasonable to think of the possibility of three people holding the opposite of their powers somewhere."

Jacob paled.

"The power to take away other people’s powers..."

’Why does that sound... familiar?’

"I know. It’s an extremely terrifying ability for someone to possess, especially to power users. However, I’m unsure what the opposite of controlling destiny itself may be. Perhaps, it could just be someone who is completely unaffected by destiny."

"Does my father know about this? How much does everyone else know?"

"Your father does know about this. It is part of why he created the noble clans in the first place. It wasn’t ever because he needed their help, it was because he needed to keep a close eye on them. If power users are destined to influence something, the king made sure that whatever influence it may be had to be beneficial. And if it wasn’t... I’m sure you know what would happen to them."

An anger started growling in Jacob’s soul.

"And how exactly does he determine things to be beneficial? How many people has he killed all for the sake of ’peace’?"

The professor refused to meet Jacob’s eyes.

"Truthfully, my lord... your father has killed many trying to maintain the peace of this kingdom. Including someone from the Rose family. They weren’t too happy about the king’s decision. I think the family’s leader, Miss Lidia, still secretly harbors some resentment against him for it."

Jacob tried his best to not try and break something around him. His uncle’s words started flashing in his mind.

’How much do you really know about your father?’

The more Jacob thought about it, the more he realized he knew absolutely nothing about his own dad, the king of the kingdom. He thought he trusted him, but the more he learned about the true state the kingdom was in, the more he realized how much his father was hiding from everyone, including the noble families.

"I just don’t get it. Why does he keep hiding so much from the people? The people deserve an explanation. I deserve an explanation. What is so dangerous outside our kingdom that the king absolutely insists on running this place like it’s a PRISON?!"

Jacob slammed his hands on the professor’s desk. Jacob realized he was taking his anger a bit far and quickly calmed himself.

"I’m sorry. It just hurts a bit more since he is my dad."

The professor looked a little startled, not expecting the sudden calm demeanor from the prince.

"It’s okay, young lord. I understand your frustration."

"Let’s go back to what we were talking about before. So, there’s six people who have powers that rival gods in this world. Do you have a name for them?"

"I do. I call the first three The Sacred Trio and the opposite three The Profane Trio. The reason for this is simple: If the first three have seemingly been in control for decades and the world still hasn’t ended, it is safe to assume that they are protecting us in some way. Otherwise, they could have kept us powerless and slaughtered us all. However, if we were to think of those three as our saviors, we must assume that those opposite them are our oppressors. Thus, I labelled them respectively as sacred and profane."
