"Lu Shaohan—" Her voice lowered sharply, carrying more warning than surprise, but he did not stop.
One arm remained securely beneath her knees while the other supported her carefully enough to avoid pulling against her injured side, the movement controlled, practiced, and effortless.
The hall stared in complete silence because this was Lu Shaohan—cold, detached, untouchable—and yet here he was carrying his wife out of the middle of a succession confrontation in front of the entire family without the slightest concern for appearances.
Lu Meiqi looked genuinely stunned.
"Cousin—"
"Enough." The single word cut her off instantly, not loud or emotional but absolute, and she fell silent immediately.
Su Wan’s eyes narrowed slightly as she looked up at him, lowering her voice enough that only he could hear clearly. "I can walk."
"I know." The answer came without hesitation, which somehow made it worse, because he carried her anyway with the knowing.
The tension in the hall shifted violently now, no longer centered around succession or inheritance.
This was something else entirely.
Second Madam’s expression darkened noticeably as she watched them move toward the door, while Old Master Lu remained silent though his eyes followed them carefully, thoughtful in a way that revealed far more than words would have.
Near the side of the hall, the remaining servants lowered their heads immediately, pretending not to see what everyone had just witnessed, because this moment would spread through the Lu Residence faster than any scandal.
Su Wan rested one hand lightly against Lu Shaohan’s shoulder as he carried her toward the hallway, her expression still composed despite the storm quietly forming beneath the surface of the household around them. "You’re creating some misunderstandings here," she said quietly.
Lu Shaohan continued walking without looking down at her. "No," he replied evenly, his grip around her tightening slightly—not possessive, not soft, simply certain. "I’m ending them." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
The words settled heavily between them. Behind them, the hall remained silent long after they disappeared from sight.
The moment Lu Shaohan carried Su Wan out of the main hall, the atmosphere inside the residence shifted completely, though the silence they left behind did not feel calm so much as restrained, as though everyone present had suddenly become aware that the balance inside the Lu family had changed in ways none of them fully understood yet.
Lu Shaohan walked through the long corridor without slowing, Su Wan resting securely in his arms while servants lowered their heads the moment they passed.
No one dared speak or look too long, but she already knew what would happen next: by evening, the entire residence would know that after Su Wan publicly confronted the Zhang family, demanded shares from the Lu Conglomerate, and stabilized the succession crisis herself, Lu Shaohan had personally carried her away in front of everyone.
That alone would become its own message inside the Lu family.
The wind outside pressed harder against the corridor windows as they continued down the private hallway leading toward the master bedroom, shadows shifting faintly across the polished floor beneath the muted afternoon light while the atmosphere remained heavy with everything left unresolved downstairs.
Only once they entered the quieter stretch of corridor near the master suite did Lu Shaohan finally speak.
"You pushed too hard," he said, his voice calm but lower now without the presence of the others around them.
Su Wan leaned slightly against his shoulder to ease the pull in her injured arm before answering. "They pushed harder first."
"That stopped being a negotiation halfway through."
"No," she replied softly. "It became survival."
The answer lingered between them, and Lu Shaohan said nothing immediately afterward because he knew she was right: the moment the Zhang family entered the residence publicly, hesitation would have been treated as weakness, and weakness inside succession disputes rarely survived.
The bedroom door opened moments later. Lu Shaohan carried her inside before closing the door behind them with his leg, and the room immediately felt quieter than the rest of the estate, insulated from the tension still spreading through the residence. Only after reaching the bed did he finally lower her carefully onto the edge of it.
Su Wan adjusted slightly once seated, though the movement pulled sharply against her injured arm, a faint crease crossing her expression before disappearing again almost immediately.
Lu Shaohan remained standing in front of her, watching her carefully—not casually or distantly, but as though reassessing her completely after everything that happened downstairs.
"You threatened the Zhang family publicly," he said finally.
Su Wan looked up at him calmly. "They needed to understand their position."
"And if they retaliate?"
"Then they retaliate."
The answer came too easily, and that bothered him. Lu Shaohan’s gaze darkened slightly. "You’re too comfortable with risks."
A faint smile touched Su Wan’s lips. "No," she said quietly. "I’m comfortable with preparation."
Silence settled briefly between them while the wind outside rattled faintly against the windows.
Then his eyes lowered toward her injured arm. The bandage beneath her sleeve had tightened again from the strain downstairs, and faint traces of blood had already begun seeping through the edge of the fabric.
He noticed immediately. "You reopened it." It was not a question.
Su Wan glanced down briefly before looking back at him. "It’s fine."
"It’s bleeding again."
Her expression barely shifted. "That’s inconvenient."
Since entering the room, visible irritation crossed Lu Shaohan’s face, not because she was injured but because she kept dismissing it. Without another word, he stepped closer. Su Wan’s eyes narrowed slightly as he reached toward her sleeve.
"What are you doing?"
"You’re bleeding through the bandage."
"I noticed."
"And ignored it."
"That too."
His jaw tightened faintly, and then, far more carefully than she expected, he began loosening the outer layer of fabric around her arm.
Su Wan watched him quietly as he loosened the fabric around her arm.
His movements were controlled and precise, but slower than usual, as though he were deliberately restraining the impatience beneath his composure.
