My eyes nearly popped clean out of my sockets upon hearing his words.
"No, I’m not!"
"No, she’s not!"
The words flew out of both mine and Soren’s mouths nearly at the same time, with us staring at Rowan with expressions of horror and alarm. Rowan, however, remained impassive.
Once Soren realized that he had reacted rather dramatically, he cleared his throat and schooled his expression.
"It is inappropriate," Soren said through gritted teeth. "There’s no need for the two of you to share a room."
I squinted. If I didn’t know any better, it sounded like Soren was jealous.
However, as quickly as that thought came, I banished it. There was no way, especially with Violet probably still hanging right outside their door at the very given moment. Their actual wife, mate, and Luna was right there behind a wooden door. I would be too full of myself if I actually thought that they might be fighting over me.
He was probably more worried that I might attempt to suffocate Rowan with a pillow when he was asleep.
Now that I thought about it, that idea was awfully tempting.
"She might attempt to escape in the middle of the night," Rowan said, and I subconsciously nodded.
That explanation sounded much more likely to be true than whatever I had just dreamt up. The lack of sleep was merely catching up to me.
"Then lock me back in my room! You know I can’t escape from there!" I yelled, but both brothers ignored me once more. To them, my words were nothing but a gentle morning breeze brushing past their ears.
I was nearly swaying on my feet at this point. The two brothers I was seeing were slowly becoming quadruplets from blurry vision.
"It is still inappropriate for you to share with her," Soren insisted firmly. "Especially because you can’t control yourself around her."
"I can control myself perfectly fine," Rowan insisted. His gaze darkened and his eyebrows furrowed. After all, he wasn’t used to people questioning his decisions so vehemently. "Someone needs to watch her."
Soren only gave him a deadpanned expression, an eyebrow raised in questioning.
"I will sleep alone, whether in a room, on this floor, or back in my cell. I do not want any of you near me, especially when your beloved chosen mate is still knocking on your door," I said, coming in between them. I didn’t forget to shoot both of them with a vicious glare. "Now can I go back to my cell?"
As if to punctuate my point, Violet’s knocking grew more intense. Rowan’s expression grew darker as he stared at the closed door, as though he could somehow will Violet to stop through the power of his thoughts.
Surprisingly, there was a pause before some shuffling sounds came from outside the door. I could faintly hear Violet’s voice, and it sounded like she was struggling. Either way, the knocking ceased. Footsteps could be heard leading away from their room.
My eyes widened. Clarity returned to me briefly, just long enough for me to realize that Rowan had probably actually willed her away through the power of his mind. However, it came in the form of the pack’s mindlink― he had probably ordered some guards to come fetch her away.
And judging by the increasingly constipated expression on Rowan’s face, I guessed she made sure to put up quite the fight before eventually getting dragged off.
Oh well, that was his problem, since Violet was his chosen mate. He couldn’t blame the Moon Goddess for this when he chose her with his own two eyes.
Either way, I was too tired to deal with their nonsense. I turned to Soren and Rowan before I crossed my arms.
"So? Am I going to sleep here?" I asked testily, my tiredness making me bitchier than usual. "Or are you planning on torturing me with sleep deprivation?"
"No, of course not―" Soren began.
He was cut off by Cassian’s voice, which came from the closed door a short distance away. "Don’t tempt me, you little―"
My eyes widened with surprise. He could hear us this entire time?!
"You will sleep in my room," Rowan suddenly said, in a tone brooking no argument. He even made sure to stare at Cassian’s closed door, as though he could see it through the thick panel of wood.
Before everyone could protest, Rowan held out his hand and added, "I will be sharing with Soren. You can have the room to yourself."
"Share?" Soren squeaked in surprise. "In that case, why can’t she sleep in my room?"
I raised my eyebrow at his question, especially when I heard jealousy in his voice. I truly was sleep deprived to hallucinate such a ludicrous idea.
Rowan said, "My room has no window. She wouldn’t be able to escape through there."
"Fair point," Soren said with a sad, defeated nod.
"...Fine," I nodded reluctantly.
I didn’t want to sleep in Rowan’s room, especially with his scent permeating every inch of the surroundings, but it was at least a lot better than having the actual man in the room. I wouldn’t be able to sleep in peace with him there.
Nevertheless, I tried thinking on the bright side. Maybe I could actually get some rest, since Rowan’s room should have been outfitted with a more comfortable bed.
"It’s this way," Rowan said, leading me to his room. I followed behind him obediently.
He stopped in front of a door. Down the corridor, Cassian’s room was on the left, while what I assumed was Soren’s door was on the right. In the middle between the two of their rooms was Rowan’s. He pushed it open, and true to my suspicions, my senses were immediately overwhelmed by his scent.
"Good night," Rowan said, staring at me expectantly.
I stepped into the room, frowning at him. Before he could say anything else, I slammed the door shut in his face.
Was Rowan truly expecting me to wish him sweet dreams, after all he had done? If that was so, he was clearly in a sweet dream of his own.
I glanced around the room, frowning. Rowan hadn’t been lying― this temporary bedroom of his looked more like a jail cell than my room did. There was no window, which also meant that there was no proper air circulation in here. It felt as though I was stuffed in a sauna powered by Rowan’s scent.
I reached up, scratching the skin around Rowan’s mark. It was starting to tingle with every second I was baked in here.
Trying my best to ignore it, I crawled into bed and squeezed my eyes shut. I needed to sleep, even if it’s for a short while.
And once the others were asleep as well, it would be my time to run.
