Honestly, I felt kind of embarrassed.

Back when I was in Azerna, there were a few questionable outfits I wore. Like... the bunny girl one.

At the time, I just mentally shut down all shame and pretended it didn’t exist. And really, unless I tried to look at myself, I didn’t have to. If I just didn’t glance down, I couldn’t see my upper chest anyway.

...Well, maybe a little even without looking down. But nothing too detailed.

Still, even if I managed to get through that day, if someone had taken a photo and kept it, I’d have wanted to die from embarrassment.

I probably would’ve rewound time multiple times just to steal it and burn it.

The “Sylvia” currently on screen wasn’t quite that bad, but—

“You look great in that, Sylvia. You should just wear it for your wedding.”

Alice said with a smirk.

“For a wedding dress, isn’t it still a bit lacking? The top should show more. Like, the shoulders.”

Charlotte added, casually one-upping her.

“But really, I could see you wearing that as-is.”

Claire, unlike the other two, looked serious, hand to chin.

Come on, now. That’s not even me up there! It’s a polygon model! A chunk of polygons! It doesn’t even come close to modern game graphics.

If it were something like the latest Final Fant●sy, maybe I’d understand.

“Mia... you're the only one who's still sane.”

“Eh? What? Me?”

I suddenly reached out and patted Mia’s head as I said it, flustering her completely.

“Trying to redirect the conversation now is too late, you know. It’s already showing on screen.”

“If you were in another noble family, they’d immediately use that as blackmail material.”

“I’d catch onto it in a heartbeat.”

Yet again, the three girls reached out in sync and started patting Mia’s head too.

“What—what are you all doing?! Why all of a sudden?!”

Mia cried out, clearly overwhelmed like always whenever she got headpats.

Her parents really were the problem. If she’d grown up with some affection, she wouldn’t react like this.

...Not that I had any right to talk after dropping a yo-mama joke on her in the past.

Whether the other three had caught on to my intentions or not, at least I successfully deflected with Mia’s head as a distraction.

Anyway—

How’s that Sylvia gonna fight in that outfit? Honestly, using guns while dressed like that just looks off. This isn’t some mobile game where high school girls run around with rifles.

[Then... come.]

[Wait—Big Sister—!]

Before Claire could stop her, the screen flashed white.

And then—

[Incarnation of Order]

The character that had been introduced as Sylvia was now labeled with a different name.

Like every final boss in this series, the Incarnation of Order—Sylvia—was a solo fight. The battlefield was smaller than normal, tailor-made for AoE attacks to hit everyone at once.

It seemed unfair at first glance, but balance-wise, it really wasn’t.

This series had a tradition—final bosses looked tough, but their HP was usually softer than expected. The devs knew the terrain was narrow and the boss hit hard.

So if you could just withstand it, you could win.

“That’s how this series always does it.”

With that thought, I jumped into the fight.

Among the skills in this game were what players called “Ultimates.”

They weren’t a separate category, technically—but every character had a skill that filled most of the map, inflicted or cured statuses, dealt massive damage, or full-healed the team including revives. Choosing the right one at the right time was key.

Naturally, they cost a lot.

Unless you used limited items, the only way to build up Skill Points was by taking or dealing damage.

Right. Only those rare items could restore SP.

Meaning, if you’d been hoarding them like crazy the whole playthrough... you could just spam them now.

I had Claire buff Charlotte’s speed regularly, while Leo and Alice drew aggro and tanked.

Every time Charlotte’s turn came around, I made her use an SP recovery item. Since she was set up with an “AoE Items” Maramaros, it healed everyone’s HP and SP across the board.

“...This feels kinda cheap.”

“Like we’re exploiting the rules.”

Alice and Claire chimed in.

Maybe they felt extra guilty since the enemy was “Sylvia.”

Me, though? I had zero hesitation with the controller in hand.

[She’s trying to erase her own cringe past, lolololol]

[Stop wearing your damn wedding dress in front of us, it’s embarrassing lol]

[What, exposing your legs in white is too shameful now, Princess?]

The chat was relentlessly teasing me, but I ignored it cleanly.

Yeah, I was embarrassed. So what?

“Losing momentum during a final boss just drags everything out.”

[Hard to argue that...]

At least the viewers who’d played this game agreed.

That’s how turn-based RPGs work.

Once your rhythm breaks and your characters start getting knocked down, it all spirals. It’s not the KO that’s the issue—it’s the lost mana and SP, and then you waste turns recovering that again.

And basic attacks chip away like nothing.

So yeah, you had to blitz it.

Once the team went full nuclear with their ultimates, Sylvia’s HP dropped fast.

When I was in Azerna, I had to deal with reality, so I used all sorts of cheap tricks... but games were great because they made you feel like you earned it, without needing to explain or justify anything.

“The heroes gave it their all and won!” — What a perfect piece of storytelling.

[Gh...!]

When her HP hit zero, Sylvia staggered back in a cutscene.

Craack.

The relic floating like a halo behind her head began to crack.

[Please... stop, Big Sister!]

[We don’t know why you’re doing this, Sylvia, but it’s not too late!]

Claire and Alice shouted.

The battlefield made by “Order” was starting to crumble.

[No... not yet. It’s not... over.]

Sylvia rose again, eyes locked on Leo and the others.

Cue Phase Two.

Well, “Phase Two” was a bit of a stretch. She wasn’t that strong. Even the devs knew that forcing a brutal second round here would’ve been too much.

With our items used up and no more MP or SP for healing, we still managed to win.

After draining her last HP bar—

Craack.

The relic behind Sylvia’s head shattered completely.

[...Phew.]

Sylvia finally smiled faintly, like she was relieved.

[Wait—Sylvia!]

[Thank you, all of you. Now... it’s over...]

[What are you talking about?! Sylvia, what do you mean it’s over?!]

Leo cried out and reached for her, but Sylvia only smiled gently and collapsed backward.

[No, no, no... Big Sister!]

[Claire, don’t worry. I was never meant to exist in your world. There’s nothing to mourn.]

...She was falling over, but very slowly.

[Sylvia?]

Alice called out, confused.

[I was created as the Avatar of the Goddess... a synthetic being made to serve Order alongside you...]

Sylvia smiled.

As if time itself had broken, the world slowed down, and she was gradually being pulled toward the abyss.

[Being with you all changed my mind, I guess. Even without me around, you had everything it took to overcome this—]

[Wait—no way.]

Charlotte looked stunned, like she’d realized something.

[Me being destroyed as the Goddess’s Avatar... that was what broke the will of Order itself.] 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Sylvia closed her eyes, peaceful.

[May you all live in peace. And may the things you accomplished remain yours to keep—]

But before Claire could finish—

Something sharp shot up from the darkness below and stabbed through Sylvia’s back.

Scarlet blood splattered.

Sylvia was skewered by a black spear—

—and as the girls screamed—

“...Oh.”

“Guess it wasn’t over after all.”

I said, saving the game as I worked the controller.

“You’re awfully calm.”

Alice asked, watching me.

I shrugged.

“This series pulls stuff like this all the time.”

Honestly, the first game was way worse about it.

And then it took them nearly two years to release the sequel.

[But now we’re really in the final chapter.]

[Just a few more hours to go!]

Yeah... this game was known for making you grind after beating what felt like the final boss.
