After a good night’s sleep, the next morning Walter stepped out of the communal tent, stretching and letting out a long yawn.
Today the sky was clear, there was no snowfall, and the wind was not strong, making it suitable for hunting. By the fire pit, the beastmen who stood guard at dawn had put snow in to boil, placing it in a clay pot. The pot was wrapped in thick animal skins, so when everyone woke up, the water inside was still warm.
Walter took some warm water to brush his teeth and wash his face. He felt his head itching slightly, likely having caught lice from the newly taken-in people. Walter did not have Kaelen’s excessive cleanliness, so catching lice was not a big deal to him.
Anthony draped a fur cloak over Walter’s shoulders, saying: "You stay with everyone today; we will go hunting, and conveniently search the surrounding area to see if there is anyone else. If there is no one else, we will set off back to the tribe tomorrow, the supplies are almost insufficient."
Walter pulled at his cloak, thought for a moment, and then nodded.
Among the newly taken-in group yesterday, there was an Avian clan Sub-Beast like him, and the other person could even create fire. Walter was very curious about this Sub-Beast and wanted to test if the guy could be trained.
Anthony added: "Uhm... It has been a long time since my fur was brushed so it is a bit uncomfortable, can you help me brush it?"
Walter shot Anthony a glance, saying nothing, and simply turned and walked straight away. Anthony disappointedly slumped his shoulders, only to hear the Sub-Beast say: "What are you still standing there for? Do you still want to make it in time to go hunting?"
Anthony froze for a moment, then became ecstatic, trotting over to fawn over Walter. Walter rummaged through his bundle, finding the thick-toothed wooden comb that had been left unused for a month, and jerked his chin at Anthony.
Anthony quickly transformed into his beast form, running like a dog to the fire pit, flopped down, and looked at Walter with eyes full of expectation. Walter pouted, carrying a low stool to sit down beside him. Anthony impatiently rested his chin on Walter’s thigh, waiting for the Sub-Beast to brush his fur. Walter frowned and swatted the tiger head aside, saying irritably: "Do not push your luck, turn your back over here."
The white tiger, having been scolded, drooped his ears dejectedly, inching his butt to turn his back over; the entire tiger looked utterly lifeless. The few Crimson tribe beastmen could not hold back, covering their mouths to suppress their laughter, but their trembling shoulders betrayed them. Anthony ground his teeth, swearing that upon returning this time, he would double their training intensity.
Greyson leaned into a Sub-Beast’s ear and asked softly: "Are those two a couple?"
The Sub-Beast shook his head looking bewildered, saying: "I do not know either, I only joined the team ten days ago. Their relationship is very strange; to say they are a couple, they seem a bit distant, but to say they are not, they are too intimate. In short... very hard to understand."
"Have you ever tried asking around?"
"I did ask, but Lord Draven only said, it serves Anthony right. As for the specifics, I do not know either."
"Oh." Greyson nodded, not asking any further. After all, they were not officially Crimson tribe’s people yet, probing into other people’s tribe’s affairs would not be good.
"What do we need to do today?" Having eaten their fill yesterday and with salt replenished, he had slept very well, and currently did not feel any fatigue.
"Just like when we were in the tribe, there is no difference. If there is any difference, it is probably having to do oral and personal hygiene before and after sleeping. Their tribe seems very clean. Right, go to Simson’s place to get a toothbrush and tooth-brushing grass powder, he will teach you how to use them." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Hearing this, Greyson was a bit confused but still resolutely followed. Reaching Simson’s place, the guy was teaching a few kids how to use toothbrushes. Besides Greyson, there were a few other people from their group. Cooper, who was bedridden yesterday, was now supported by Hunter to walk. The Black Rabbit Ian could also walk normally, while the white snake was still hibernating.
After breakfast, Anthony led a group of beastmen to go hunting, and the rest split into groups. Wofu led Draven and a group to pick wild vegetables and medicinal herbs, conveniently chopping trees to make sleds, while Walter stayed behind with the guard group.
He called the Avian clan Sub-Beast over, asking: "Hello, I am Walter. Your name is Jordan, right?"
Jordan nodded, feeling a bit flattered yet fearful. He did not expect this lord to remember his name right when he had only introduced himself once yesterday. Seeing Jordan tense, Walter smiled, saying:
"Do not be tense, we both have Avian clan bloodlines, I want to ask about your special ability."
Jordan clenched his fists, saying: "I... I can create fire."
Walter nodded: "I know, you said that yesterday. I want to see it directly, is that okay?"
Jordan nodded. The two went to a quiet corner together; Jordan held out his right hand, urging his intent. The surrounding air warmed up slightly, and after a moment, a small flame flared up with a poof on Jordan’s palm.
Walter rubbed his chin: "Does it normally take you this long to create fire too?"
Jordan nervously swallowed his saliva: "Y-yes, it does. But it is already bigger than at the beginning. At first, I could only create a tiny spark."
He nervously emphasized his own development, afraid that Walter would be dissatisfied and chase him away. Walter did not mind much, nodding: "What if you speed up the rate of creating fire?"
"Let me try." Jordan took a deep breath, trying to accelerate urging the energy in his body. It indeed could be faster, but the heat of the fire was not as good as the beginning.
However, Walter appeared quite satisfied, saying: "This is quite good. Turn your back over here for me to see your wings."
Jordan clenched his hand, and the fire in his hand extinguished. He turned his back to let Walter examine his wings.
Jordan’s wings were Avian clan wings right from the start, not transformed midway like Walter’s. The wing bones were very fragile, the oscillation force was not strong, so it seemed they could not fly. Walter felt a bit regretful. If Jordan’s wings were like his, it would be great; the guy would be a perfect humanoid aerial weapon.
"Alright, your issue can be handled. First, you must pass our tribe’s trial, then I will accept you into my team. Let’s return."
Just then, a sharp eagle cry transmitted into everyone’s ears, and all the people at the camp instantly became vigilant. The beastmen transformed into their beast forms, the Sub-Beasts quickly scooped up the beast cubs into the tents, their eyes looking outside tensely.
Walter quickly took down the bow on his back, tucked Jordan under his arm, and ran back to the center. Jordan was tucked until he was dizzy, not expecting that as a fellow Sub-Beast, he could be so easily carried by Walter like a little chick. Walter pushed Jordan into the tent, then immediately drew a bamboo arrow, aiming it at the sky.
He narrowed his eyes to look, and the stone on the eagle’s neck reflecting light imprinted in his eyes. Walter immediately lowered his bow and arrow, saying:
"It is our own people."
He took out the bone whistle from his chest, blowing a long whistle. The Avian beastman who had flown past immediately braked abruptly, circling back. As soon as the eagle landed on the ground, it immediately transformed into a human form:
"Beast God bless us, we finally found everyone."
Only at this moment did everyone realize the arrival was a beastman. Thank the Beast God, they could not sense any beastman aura on this Avian clan beastman at all; they did not know how Walter and the Crimson tribe people managed to recognize him.
A Striped Tiger clan beastman stepped forward, punched the Avian clan beastman’s shoulder, and said: "You brat, if Walter hadn’t stayed here today, you would have probably just flown right past."
The Avian clan beastman scratched his head, saying embarrassedly: "How were we supposed to know, the entire white expanse is all snow, we could only fly while calling out, hoping everyone would notice."
He looked around for a moment, seeing many new faces, and said in surprise: "You guys found so many people? The Chief sent us to deliver news to you all, telling everyone to quickly return."
Walter asked tensely: "Did something happen to the tribe?"
The beastman shook his head, recounting the events that had occurred in the Southern continent recently.
"Right now, the Temple’s people are no different from frenzied magic beasts; the Chief is worried that everyone is unsafe, so it is better to return first and figure out a countermeasure later."
Walter breathed a sigh of relief: "As long as nothing happened, it is fine; we also planned to return tomorrow. We also know about the Temple’s pursuit; if the situation has become this tense, we will return right now."
The Avian beastman nodded, saying: "Then I will go back to notify everyone. They are resting about over an hour’s walk away from here, we will wait for you guys over there."
Saying that, he transformed back into his beast form, flying back. Walter said to everyone:
"Parker, your speed is fast, you run and call Anthony and Wofu back, no need to hunt anymore. They haven’t left for long, they are probably still nearby. Everyone break camp, we will set off once Anthony returns."
Everyone immediately split up to take action. Two hours later, the two Crimson armies regrouped, setting off together on the journey back.
At this time, they still did not know that their Chief and little Priest had leveled up, still thinking their tribe was the same small tribe as when they left.
