Carly Lewis
POV
All I felt right now, was relief. I was relieved that I didn’t mess things up for Chase. I was relieved I watched Stella eat heartily at KFC happily put her to bed and I was exhausted.
Today drained the life out of me. From picturing my boss and baby daddy naked to nearly losing my daughter.
Today has been eventful.
I laid on my bed staying at my dark ceiling, I haven’t even showered yet. But I was too tired to move.
That dream resurfaced.
But the fact that there was more to the dream made me sit up.
=====
I watch my friend as she watches all the guys walking into the bar.
I let out a laugh. It was our celebratory drink night for me not dying. I’ve been in the hospital for four months and went right back to work.
I finally had a night off and she convinced me to have the night out.
"Honestly I need to get laid, I’ve been in the office all day, nothing is more annoying watching everyone living their lives, being in their ear and not being able get any action yourself." She complains before chugging down her beer.
Trina and I have been friends for years, you kind of have to be close to the person who is in your ear almost twenty hours a day. She was like that annoying voice in your head constantly.
I shake my head... "I can’t even imagine what that’s like. I was out for four months and by day two I wanted to shoot Bruno..." I tell her.
"Of course, princess perfect won’t know what it’s like being stuck in the bucket almost twenty hours a day... What do you think about the guy that just walked in?" she asks.
I turn around. My eyes widen for a second. I’ve been all over the world. I’ve met dozens of men. But none has ever caught my attention quite like this man did. I’ve never seen a man this attractive before.
His green eyes are so deep and alluring, his hair dirty blonde hair almost in his eyes that’s how long it is. His tall, I can tell he’s around 6’5... His got wide shoulders, by the way the leather jacket sits on his shoulders. Let’s talk about his pale face, how freaking smooth it looked from across the room. I imagined that there wasn’t a scar on that body...
I chug the last little of my beer, before making my way over to him. I mess up my short blonde hair up a bit before walking up to him and sitting at his table.
I cut my hair last week because the long hair was getting in my way.
He looked up at me in shock. "Can I help you?" he asks.
I smile shaking my head... "No but I can help you..." I slide into his booth sitting across from him.
He narrows his eyes at me... "Are you some type of fan or just a weirdo?" he asks.
I frown. "A fan of what? Your good looks?" I ask. "I’ll be a fan any day if that means I get to see that face..." I fan myself for a dramatic effect.
He bursts out laughing... "God please tell me that doesn’t work on men..."
I smile. "How about I make up for my lame attempt at flirting with you by buying you a drink... Mister?" I ask.
"Chase..." he says softly.
"Lisa..." I introduced myself. Though I could never give him my real name. Technically I don’t even exist. I was a ghost.
"So, Lisa do you really not know who I am?" he asks.
I shrug my shoulders. "Should I? Or better yet, how about I get to know you?" I ask.
He just smiles shaking his head. I get up and walk over to the bar ordering two beers.
When I get back to his table. He’s on the phone. I ignore the call; I was many things, and I was trying to get the poor man drunk I wasn’t going to listen in on his call. I’d expect the same from anyone else.
When he spots me, he quickly ends his call...
"You know you’re the hottest guy I’ve ever met..." I tell him setting down the beer in front of him.
"I bet you say that to all the guys..." He jokes taking a sip of his beer.
He didn’t drink beer like any guy I know. He wasn’t chugging it. No the man was sipping on it.
"Nah, I normally don’t have to engage in much conversation..." I tell him.
He smiles. "Oh you’re that charming?" he asks.
I cup my face with my hands. "You don’t think so yourself?" I ask.
He laughs. "Well you’re something alright..."
"Good or bad something?" I ask.
"Well we’ll find out at the end of the night..." he tells me.
We spend the rest of the night laughing at stupid jokes, talking about everything but ourselves. We spoke about our likes and dislikes, while the drinks just kept coming... Chase was quite interesting. I didn’t regret walking up to him. He held my interest the entire time we were seated.
Not once have I checked my surroundings. I was locked in on our conversation. That has never happened to me before.
By around the time morning rolled around the bar was closing I had to drag him back to my room. I want to say I carried the man, but he was heavy. Too heavy for me to carry him.
By the time I get him to my room I’m panting and out of breath. I haven’t carried another human being in forever, yet alone someone double my weight. I’ve been out for at least thirteen months, I was working but they weren’t putting me on important missions until two docs gave the all clear.
I’m glad I didn’t just leave the room after dropping Chase off in my room.
I was Lisa tonight and Lisa enjoyed spending time with Chase and the thought scared me more than I’d like to admit.
I was a ghost that would be gone by night. Lisa wouldn’t exist tomorrow. She would be a blip in this man’s life.
I didn’t want to like him. But I’d connected with him more than just physical attraction.
When I open my eyes, I realize I’m alone in my room. I didn’t know where Chase was, but I really couldn’t fault him for leaving. Disappointment runs through me. I shrug my shoulders and go about my day as usual. It was just like any other day.
I got dressed and packed my things ready to leave New York tonight.
On my way to the bucket I kept thinking about him. I was bummed out about not seeing when I woke up. I really liked this guy.
I met Trina at the office. "You have a good time last night? I saw you left with that guy?" I ask her.
She smiles shyly. "He took me back to his house. Or should I say to his parents’ house. His grandmother walked in on us while we were almost at the end and it was so embarrassing because I came looking in his grandmother’s eyes." She says.
I cringe. "God damn I felt that inside my soul. I didn’t need the picture of the poor nonna..." I tell her.
She laughs. "I ran out of there like I was being chased by wolves."
I scoff. "I would fight wolves..." I tell her.
She rolls her eyes. "What about you, with that guy?" she asks.
"Chase. Nothing, when I woke up this morning he was gone. Though I have no idea why I was naked though." I shrug my shoulders, and we went on to speak about today’s assignment.
"You need to be in Los Angeles. Bruno will be meeting you there to speak to the FBI on your behave. We can’t have what you did last year happen again..."
"The guy was a fucking creep he tried to touch my ass and I gave him a piece of my damn mind..." I pull a face.
"Widow you sent the man to the hospital he is still in a coma..." She reminds me.
"That should teach him a lesson about touching women without their permission..." I protest.
===========
I stared at the dressing table in my room in shock. I remembered the night Stella was conceived.
So I didn’t remember the night we spent together the next day. Well we were drinking a lot. Maybe that’s why...
Do I tell Chase or keep this to myself?
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to wait to tell him.
It seems like we had a genuine connection when we met. I told him my name was Lisa?
Trina the woman in my memory called me Widow? Was that my name?
Who was I? I worked with or for the FBI? I was confused. I didn’t know who I was...
I didn’t know how I felt about the memory. All my memories connected to Chase were coming back. But what about in between?
What about the memories that have nothing to do with Chase?
I knew following Chase was the right idea.
