Jiang Yanyan and Ji Shuihan arrived within a week of each other and their families couldn’t stop themselves from jokingly calling them twins. Jiang Yanyan had arrived first, and Lanni had been thrown into early labor by the excitement of meeting her second niece. Luckily, her son had been delivered safely and there hadn’t been any complications.

The families had thrown one big celebration for both babies instead of two separate ones and Li Yuming couldn’t wait to meet her grandchildren. She had been in the UK for an art exhibition and only saw her grandchildren on pictures and video calls. They had assured her that it was okay to finish the exhibitions and meet the babies later but even then, she made sure to rush back as soon as the most important days were over.

She rushed all the way to the Jiang family’s mansion where all the others were already gathered and melted as soon as she met Lanni pushing a stroller. She hugged her daughter and leaned over to look at her grandson, her heart melting from how cute he was. "Can I hold him?"

"Of course." Lanni chuckled. Was that even a question?

The boy looked happy to be in his grandmother’s arms even though he hated being held and would cry if anyone aside from his parents and aunt held him for longer than two minutes.

Li Yuming tapped his nose as Lanni joked, "He really is your grandson. He looks nothing like us and we were starting to worry that our baby was switched."

Li Yuming took a closer look at him and realized that there was nothing about him that proved she was Lanni’s or Xiehan’s son. But then, she was stunned.

"My grandma used to speak of her great grandmother, a foreign long-haired beauty with the deepest emerald eyes. Her mother was a splitting image of her and so was her daughter, my mother. I thought you and Luna would follow the trend and look like her but it seems like it skipped an extra generation this time. Shuihan looks just like my grandma did when she was younger."

"Really?" Lanni was pleasantly surprised. Then she called Luna over and asked her to come with Yanyan.

Yanyan had emerald eyes too, which made it obvious that the cousins must have inherited it from their mothers’ side, but they were both confused as they didn’t know anyone with green eyes in their family.

Li Yuming was pleasantly surprised as she took a closer look at Jiang Yanyan. "She looks even more identical to grandma in real life."

When she hugged the girl, she made happy sounds while Shuihan screamed when his grandmother put him down. Luna and Lanni burst into laughter at the rivalry that had started so soon.

There would be lots of gunpowder in the air soon. It was already clear that Linhou loved his cousin more than he loved his sisters, and would spend most of his free time next to Shuihan’s crib.

On the other hand, Xiaomu wanted nothing more than to stick to Lanni like glue in fear that her cousin would take her aunt away from her. It would take lots of persuasion to convince her that her aunt would not stop loving her just because she had a son now.

Cedric picked up the crying boy whose tears soon turned into a toothless smile.

"Hey, do you remember me?" He teased. "I’m..."

Shuihan burst into screams too soon, making Cheng Yu laugh at her boyfriend.

"He prefers girls." She winked and took the boy from him, shaking her head when he rejected her too. "If you keep rejecting girls, you will not be able to get a little girlfriend later." She joked, earning a smack from Lanni.

"My son is too young to think about that."

Cedric held Yanyan in his arms, smiling more than he had in the last few months. When Cheng Yu came up behind him, he turned to glance at her over his shoulder. "She is so cute, isn’t she? What do you say we make one of our own?"

"No." She rejected the idea as soon as his words were out. She then laughed her overreaction off but he clearly wasn’t buying it.

Why would she act like she hated kids? She clearly loved them, considering how she interacted with her friends’ children. She bit her bottom lip when he stared at her and looked down.

"I’m sorry. I was unfair to you." Her eyes clouded with tears and he was confused.

"Baby, what are you talking about?"

She blinked away her tears and placed her hand on his. "I lied to you about not wanting kids. The truth is, I can’t have any." She confessed. She couldn’t dare to look up at him as she continued, "And when I told you I had an IUD, I lied. I don’t need one because I can’t get pregnant anyway. I’m..."

"Don’t." He leaned down and kissed her nose. "It doesn’t matter. If you decide that you want kids later, we can always adopt."

She hugged him, careful not to squash Yanyan in his arms. She felt better now that she had let it out.

"Let’s go back. Luna must be looking for her daughter." He led the way, slowing down after a few steps to let her hold his arm.

They stopped in their tracks when they saw Ji Meiling walking over.

Cheng Yu stood before Cedric to protect Yanyan. "You! What are you doing here?"

Ji Meiling looked haggard. She didn’t stop when she heard Cheng Yu’s warning tone. "I would like to speak to Lanni and Xiehan."

"You cannot. Leave right now before we call security." Cedric shooed her off.

"I know I did many awful things," She inched a step closer. "I would like to apologize to Lanni and my nephew for what I did. That’s all. I’m not trying to cause trouble so please let me in." She pleaded.

Cheng Yu wasn’t having any of it. "Cedric, please take Yanyan back to the mansion. We cannot risk having this woman do something to him." She instructed, and then turned to glare at Ji Meiling. "And you, you have already caused enough damage to my friend and her husband. You should be smart and leave. Don’t think anyone will believe you if you claim not to mean any harm when you could as well be hiding a bomb in your clothes. How did you even get in here?"

She summoned a guard over. "This woman is a criminal and an enemy of the Jiang and Ji families. Why did you let her in?"

The guard was confused. "She claimed to be Mr. Ji’s aunt and... I’m sorry, ma’am. I will send her out right away." He grabbed Ji Meiling’s arm to escort her out.

"No! My nephew will never forgive you if you humiliate me! I only want to apologize!" She yelled, protesting against being dragged out.

"Is that so?" A deep voice interrupted, and Cheng Yu sighed in relief. She had hoped Cedric would summon Xiehan and Xingyu.

Ji Meiling was relieved when she saw her nephew and when Xiehan instructed the guard to let her go, she took a step closer.

"Xiehan, can we talk?"

"You can say whatever you want right here." Xiehan ordered. He had rushed over as soon as he heard the commotion and Lanni had followed him out, having left Shuihan to Luna.

"Lanni, you are here." Ji Meiling took a step forward only to be stopped by Cheng Yu.

"No one allowed you to get near her. Speak."

"I came to apologize for everything I did to you and Xiehan. I’m sorry. Can you please forgive me?"

Lanni crossed her arms. "You tried to make my husband unable to have children over something you clearly knew was an accident, then you tried to kill my son on several occasions, and you expect me to simply forgive you?"

Ji Meiling went on her knees, but Lanni merely looked down at her without flinching.

"I don’t care if Ji Huifen and Wen Lin are generous enough to forgive the woman who tried to hurt their son and grandson, but I am no saint. So leave and never try to come back because I will never forgive you."

She turned to leave and so did Xiehan, but not before adding, "Make sure I never see you again. Because if I do, I will kill you."
