The Blind SSS-Class Final Boss Is Obsessed With Me

Chapter 24: System! System! What the Hell?!

Alongside discovering a way to awaken a System and realizing its benefits, Kaelen also discovered that the only way to awaken a System was to force a god’s soul to fuse with mortal’s consciousness.

And to pull off that insane ritual, three exact conditions had to be met at the exact same time.

First, you need a catalyst of explosive life force to forcefully break your mortal limits. That was achieved by the unrefined troll-blood potion I had just swallowed.

Second, you needed a sudden spark of mana to jumpstart your internal core. And since I was completely manaless, I couldn’t generate my own magic. But the recovery potion I drank didn’t just yeal my body. I flooded my veins with a dense burst of artificial mana.

And third, you needed a divine vessel to anchor the soul. That was where the book and the dagger came in.

The pages were covered in spells for 4th-Star Regeneration Magic.

Because Seraphina couldn’t read, she leaned in close beside me and her shoulder pressed lightly against mine as I studied the book.

"Seraphina," I said as I turned my face toward her. "I need you to do something for me."

She tilted her head slightly. "What... is it...?"

"When the mana inside me spikes, I need you to press this dagger straight against my left chest," I said. "Right over my heart."

At my words, Seraphina froze for a moment.

"No..." she whispered while shaking her head frantically. "It will... hurt you... I can’t..."

"Trust me," Saying that, I held her hand and placed the rusty hilt into her fingers. "The recovery potion gave me just enough temporary mana to cast this spell. The regeneration magic will keep my heart intact while the dagger draws out the God’s soul inside it."

She hesitated for a long time and her grip on the hilt was also trembling slightly. But when she felt how calm and confident I was, she slowly nodded.

"I... trust you..."

I closed my eyes and focused on the mana swirling inside my chest from the potion. Then, after sensing it, I began reciting the spells from the book.

"Vitae... Restoratio... Anima..."

The faint green glow of 4th-Star Regeneration magic erupted across my skin. At the exact same time, the troll-blood extract potion inside my stomach also exploded with energy. Both of them began canceling each other. While both did the same work, they had entirely different structure and ways to achieve what they were supposed to.

So, my body became a battlefield between to constant magical healing.

"Now, Sera!" I gritted out through clenched teeth.

Instantly, at my words Seraphina moved and pressed the tip of the rusty dagger directly against the skin over my heart.

BZZZZZT!

A blinding surge of blue lightning burst over the rusty blade.

The thick layer of rust on the dagger violently cracked and flaked away into dust, revealing a sleek, obsidian blade engraved with glowing runes.

I took a deep breath. Then, without giving myself a second to hesitate, I grabbed Seraphina’s hand that were around he dragger’s hilt and drove the tip of the dagger straight toward my own heart.

SHINK.

"ARRRRGGGHHH!"

The scream tore out of my throat before I could stop it.

"Cian!" Seraphina shrieked. Her dark aura exploded and shattered the nearby wooden chair and bed into splinters. "Stop! You... are dying! I... I will... fix...!"

"NO!"

"Stay... back! It’s... working!"

It had to work. I must work.

I waited for the blue screen. I waited for the ’Cheat’ that would finally give me the power to stand beside the Final Boss without being a burden.

[Initialization... 10%... 40%... 90%...]

’Come on!’ I thought. ’Give it to me!’

[Initialization Complete.]

Suddenly, the pressure in my chest vanished instantly. The dagger in my heart turned into white dust before vanishing completely.

I slumped forward onto Seraphina’s shoulder.

"Huff... Huff..."

As I was breating heavily, I waited for the cheat ability, for the system screen to appear in front of me.

’System! Status screen!’ I called out in my mind.

...Nothing.

There was no blue screen. No stats. No skills. I was still just Cian von Heist, the nameless extra with a slightly better-than-before mana pool.

"What...?" I wheezed out. "Why... why didn’t it work?!"

I had followed every single step. The potion, the book, the dagger... I had even survived the one-in-a-thousand chance of death! So why was there no System?

"Cian...?" Seraphina’s voice was small and was filled with a strange, confused wonder.

I pulled myself away from her after my chest was completely healed. "I failed, Sera. I’m still just a—"

"Cian... I can... see... something," she whispered.

She was staring at the empty space in front of her face. She reached out with her hands and her fingers waved through the air, tracing shapes I couldn’t see. And her blindfolded face was tilted in a way that suggested she was looking at something out of this world.

"Blue... boxes... Floating... blue boxes," she murmured.

Hearing her, my brain went blank for a moment.

’Blue boxes...? Floating...?’

"What?!

You see... blue boxes? Like... a screen?"

"Boxes... with... squiggles," she said.

"WHAT THE—!" I jumped to my feet, nearly knocking her over. "No! That’s not how it’s supposed to be! It doesn’t make any sense! I was the one who drank the potion! I was the one who got stabbed by the dagger?!"

I paced the small room, clutching my hair. This was insane. The Final Boss—the one who will soon become the most powerful, reality-breaking monster in the world—now had a System? It was like giving a nuclear bomb a sentient AI.

"Wait," I stopped walking and looked at her. "What does it say, Sera? Read it to me! Is it a Hero System? A Villain System? Or what?"

"I... I can’t... read..." she murmured as she reached out for my hand and locked her fingers with mine. "I don’t... know how... to... read."

[Detected: Host cannot read Primary Language.]

[Initializing: Audio-Assistance Mode...]

[System Online. Welcome, Host Seraphina.]

Suddenly, I saw Serpahina’s dark aura flaring for a second before it dissipated instantly.

"Cian... it... it’s talking," she whispered. "It says... Host... can’t... read...?"

My mouth hung open in disbelief. I stared at Seraphina as if she had suddenly grown a second head. The math isn’t mathing. The lore isn’t loreing.

I was the one who swallowed the terrifying, gut-wrenching troll-blood potion. I was the one who forced artificial mana through my non-existent channels. I was the one who ’literally drove a divine, rust-covered blade into my own damn heart!’

Yet the universe, or whatever twisted cosmic entity ran this world, looked at the two of us and said: ’Nah, let’s give the cheat code to the living apocalypse instead.’

"It is... talking...?" I repeated.

"Yes..." Seraphina’s fingers tightening around mine as if she was listening to a faint radio broadcast in her mind. "It has... a cold... voice. Like... steel."

I grabbed her shoulders and leaned in so close that our foreheads almost touched.

"Sera, listen to me very carefully. What is it saying right now?! Tell me word for word!"

Seraphina went still for a second. Her blindfolded face turned toward the empty air floating between us and her lips moved as she repeated the voice echoing inside her head.

"Scanning host... Error..." she murmured. "Host power level... exceeds maximum mortal parameters... Adjusting system parameters... to accommodate..."

’Exceeds maximum parameters?!’ I screamed internally. ’Of course it exceeds the parameters! She’s the Final Boss!’

"If I... protect Cian... I get ’Evolution Points.’ And if I... stay close... I get ’Rewards’." Seraphina kept on talking without stopping for a moment as she told me everything the system was telling her.

"Rewards?" I raised an eyebrow. "Like what? Legendary items? New skills?"

[New Quest Generated: ’The First Harvest’]

[Objective: Neutralize the Demon Apostle.]

[Rewards:???]

[Hidden Reward: Unlocking ’Lap Pillow’ privilege for 30 minutes from the Soul-Link.]

[Soul-Link: Cian von Heist]

Seraphina leaned in even closer that her forehead was resting against mine. "It... it just said something else," she murmured. "Cian... what is a... ’Lap Pillow’?"
