Chapter 89: Let’s Dance…!!!
“I… I love you!!”
Lucian’s scream tore violently through the suffocating silence of the night, his voice cracking with something unstable—madness as his legs trembled beneath him, not from hesitation or fear, but from the sheer strain clawing through his muscles, the exhaustion with every breath he forced into his lungs.
But despite that—
Despite the trembling, despite the blood that clung to his skin and clothes, despite the pain crawling at every inch in his body, biting into his nerves—
There was a wide, maniacal smile stretched across his face.
Akasha was stunned by his words.
For a moment, she didn’t even process what he had said, confused by the words that were completely disconnected from the chaos unfolding around him.
Lucian didn’t know that, since he was already moving.
He instantly twisted his body sharply, and brutally kicked a wolf’s lower stomach—as it was about to attack him—slamming it with a heavy impact over the others, crashing onto them with a choked growl.
He looked at the multiple wolves, eyes sweeping across the pack, before his gaze rose a few centimeters, directly into the eyes of the E rank wolf.
Lucian’s lips parted slightly.
“My dear Akasha has given me a quest…” he muttered, his voice low, almost soft, yet trembling faintly.
He didn’t know whether the trembling came from exhaustion… or from something else entirely.
Suddenly—
His eyes glinted sharply as a wide smile lit up his face once again, stretching unnaturally, his expression twisting into something that didn’t quite resemble sanity anymore.
He raised his hand slowly, like an orchestrator starting a show… aside from the wide, almost distorted smile twisting on his lips.
“So wolfies…!”
His voice grew louder, carrying a strange excitement as he suddenly shifted, punching into the wolf’s lower jaw as it tried to tear into his back.
His fists collided with the wolf’s lower jaw with a sickening crack, snapping its head back along with its entire body, which jerked from the force.
Lucian didn’t give it much time.
The other wolves were moving too.
He instantly used [Suppression Intent] for a brief moment, stopping the others from interfering.
The air thickened.
Invisible pressure burst out, slamming outward and pressing down on the surrounding wolves with an unseen weight.
All of them froze.
Small whimpers escaped their mouths despite their efforts to move—which they couldn’t.
He dashed forward, closing the distance to the wolf that had been struck.
His arms shot out, grabbing its neck with one hand, sinking his fingers into the coarse fur.
Then—
The other hand moved, driving the bone dagger into its eyes.
He stabbed again.
And again.
And again, each stab driving deeper, more forceful, almost desperate.
Blood splattered over his face with each strike, but he didn’t stop, and slowly, the creature’s body began to go still.
Lucian didn’t stop immediately.
He stabbed once more.
Then again.
Until it went completely still—until there was no movement left.
He raised his head again, his eyes sweeping across the remaining wolves once more, who growled lowly despite the fear gripping their hearts.
It lingered in their eyes.
Lucian saw it.
And his smile widened.
“Let’s Dance…!!!”
He shouted as his voice tore from his throat, echoing through the road.
And then—
He stopped the skill.
The pressure vanished.
Gone in an instant.
And in the same moment—
Everything broke.
All the wolves surged forward, rushing at him aggressively, violently, aiming to tear him apart, to rip him into pieces.
The larger wolf didn’t immediately attack him.
It stood there—still, unmoving, its large frame outlined faintly in the dim light, its dark black fur shining under the night.
Then slowly, it raised its head again.
Its chest expanded and…
“AAAOOOOOOOOOO—!!!”
The howl erupted from its throat like a shockwave, the sound tearing violently through the night, reverberating across the empty road—enough to deafen Lucian’s ears.
His ears rang instantly.
His left hand, along with his right thigh, both of them burned and stung with each movement, flaring each time his muscles tightened, but still…
He didn’t stop.
He couldn’t stop.
If he stopped—
He would die.
And so—
Instead of slowing, his movements grew sharper, more aggressive, less restrained.
And it wasn’t just him.
The wolves changed too.
The moment that howl echoed across the battlefield, something in them shifted, their hesitation vanishing completely as they moved more ferociously, more coordinated, adamant in killing the human.
The one who dared to stand against them, and the one who was slowly, steadily killing their kin.
Lucian moved through each of them, stabbing a wolf’s neck, or another’s jaw, or even its eyes.
Each attack aimed to kill.
He didn’t give them time.
He kicked a few of them aside, slamming their bodies onto the ground, falling over each other, while he used that small gap in time to kill the ones he had injured severely.
Slowly—
The numbers began to drop.
From twenty-seven…
To fifteen… or maybe more… or maybe less.
Lucian didn’t know, as he couldn’t tell anymore.
His mind was slipping.
Blurring.
His head throbbed as he used the skill [Suppression Intent] once again, stopping a wolf’s movements just as it was about to bite into his shoulder.
He stepped forward, instantly stabbing the dagger directly into its eye… or at least he tried to.
The wolf, seeing it attack, reacted.
Even restrained, despite being under the pressure—
It moved, shaking its head violently to the side at the last moment, making him miss his aim as the blade struck its skull.
A dull, heavy crack echoed, the vibration shooting through his arm as the bone knife shattered in his hands, the brittle material breaking under the force of the impact.
He deactivated his skill instantly.
The pressure vanished.
A wave of dizziness hit him immediately. He felt slightly dizzy, his vision flickering while a sharp pulse of pain jolted behind his eyes.
The wolf, freed from its invisible shackles, jerked violently, its muscles snapping taut again as it growled loudly, the sound deep and furious, filling Lucian with frustration since he could hear it so clearly at such close range.
“Shut up!” he shouted, his voice hoarse, as he stepped forward without hesitation, his arm pulling as he drove his fist forward, punching directly in the skull of the monster as hard as he could.
A dull, heavy impact echoed through his bones.
The skin across his knuckles split instantly, beginning to tear apart under the force, and a sharp sting followed the contact.
His arm trembled.
His muscles screamed, threatening to give out under the constant strain.
But he didn’t stop.
He punched its head again, and again, and again.
Each strike was more violent than the last, more desperate and raw with each movement.
The direwolf’s eyes began to dull, its body swaying strangely as the repeated blows rattled its skull, its resistance weakening under the sheer brutality of Lucian’s relentless onslaught.
He drew his arm back again—
But before he could strike, another wolf rushed in, making Lucian annoyed.
He clicked his tongue in irritation as he strained his leg muscles, stepping aside before its claws could connect.
His gaze lowered slightly as he looked at the only bone dagger in his right hand.
He had only three blades left, including the one currently in his hand.
He didn’t have much time to think about it, as the dire wolves didn’t give him any time to dwell on it.
Lucian’s leg slipped over the corpse once again as he dashed over one of the dire wolves.
His body lowered instantly, almost falling as he regained his balance.
The wolf, seeing the opportunity, moved towards him.
His gaze fell on the human corpse below him—the one he slipped on for a split second before snapping up.
He tilted his body sideways, twisting his upper half violently, barely dodging its incoming claws as they split past where his torso had been a moment before.
Then—
[Ding!~]
A soft chime rang in his mind, as a small screen materialised before him.
[You have acquired the skill Basic Combat Sense.]
[Your skill Minor Pain Resistance has evolved to Pain Tolerance.]
Lucian didn’t even look at the screen.
Didn’t care.
His eyes twitched in irritation, frustration flickering through his hazy mind. He dismissed it instantly with a thought, forcing the screen to vanish, and snapped his focus back on the wolf.
Lucian’s eyes sharpened as he felt its movements more clearly.
The pain in his body began to dull slightly, though it still hindered his movements.
But now, at least he didn’t feel like he was dying… though he couldn’t be exactly sure about it in his current situation.
His fists clenched tightly as he punched into the wolf’s underbelly, the impact forcing a pained grunt out of the creature.
But he didn’t stop there.
He twisted his body and moved behind it, in its blank spot.
He kicked the other wolf that rushed at him from the front, and grabbed the one he had just kicked earlier.
Immediately, he grabbed its tail, wrapping his fingers tightly around it.
Even before it could react, his muscles strained as he put his all into rotating his body, dragging the wolf with him, its body lifting off the ground due to the momentum.
With a sharp, explosive 180-degree spin, Lucian let go.
The wolf flew, its body lifting unnaturally through the air, carried by the force of the throw as it launched directly into the path of other wolves that were already mid-charge.
They collided brutally, bodies slamming together, their snarls turning into pained yelps.
