Eugene, feigning ignorance of the passive-aggressive undertones, looked baffled. "You must be joking, Dr. Vera. I’m just an ordinary doctor in a fertility clinic now. What achievements could I possibly have? They’re nothing compared to the grand accomplishments of the Fertility Research Institute. Please don’t praise me to death; I really don’t deserve it."

"Oh, don’t be so modest. I’ve heard all about it. Duke Lu Xia’s husband—the one who was previously a ’defective product’ male—produced a child under your care. Is that correct?"

Eugene feigned a look of sudden understanding. "Ah, so that’s what this is about. It was pure coincidence.
