Strongest Maid In Another World

Chapter 34: A Different Loraine

Tap! Tap! Tap!

"Excuse me! Coming through!" Loraine said as she raced forward with full speeds, running through the streets of the capital like a madman. She moved and weaved through the crowd of people, rushing past adventurers, magicians, and ordinary people alike.

People gave her weird glances as she passed, others cursed at her for almost bumping into them, but Loraine couldn’t give a damn about any of that as she was solely focused on getting home as fast as her legs could possibly carry her.

’I guess I’ll have to use this again,’ Loraine said, her body erupting in a powerful golden glow as she burst forward with even greater speeds, leaping high into the air as she leaped over multiple people at once, their eyes following her as the maid gently landed on the other side, before scurrying away into the night.

She had bought all the required ingredients on Margret’s list, shoving them all into her [Ring Of Storage] as she began to frequently make her dash back home.

’I hope I’m not too late. I guess I have to make myself look somewhat presentable when I get back.’ She thought to herself, her hand hovering above her chest as she ran, [Cleanse] being cast as a bright glow surrounded her body and rendered it clean of all dust, grime, sweat, and dirt.

"I wish this skill could repair damaged clothes as well, god I look awful...." Loraine remarked, clicking her tongue as her eyes briefly wandered over her messy maid’s uniform. There were scratches and gashes all over, and while her main body had recovered as a result of leveling up, her clothes didn’t and it affected how people had perceived her as she passed.

After a long time running, the Royal Capital’s district had finally faded behind her, the mansion’s horizon coming into view as Loraine was starting to become exhausted. Running non-stop at top speeds left her as a panting, sweaty mess, her hand coming up to cast [Cleanse] on herself once more, the skill proving useful in her times of need.

’Even though my stamina’s okay, the MP drain to keep this skill active is starting to show itself.’ She thought, her body shrinking a bit as [Aura Of Haste] was deactivated, her body returning from its athletic build to her more slender frame.

’Alright I’m here, might as well take out these ingredients immediately.’ Loraine said internally, taking out the large bag of items using her [Ring Of Storage] as she began to walk up towards the gates of the mansion.

The gate guards, two men wearing a soldier’s uniform with badges on their chest, stood like statues as they had a stoic, and concentrated expression at all times. They served the Ashbourne family with a devotion like no other, having grown their strength and training to protecting the family and their secrets.

"?" One of the guards raised a brow as they saw Loraine approaching, taking in her disheveled appearance and what looked like to be signs of combat. He was a seasoned warrior, capable of discerning things of that nature as he looked her up and down, the only anomaly being that she was rather unharmed even though her clothes showed clear signs of damage.

’What happened to her?’ He thought inwardly, though he didn’t dare voice it out loud.

"Open the gates, Loraine Velmer has returned." The guard said, his voice carrying over the gate as the guards behind it started to open it, the heavy metal gates opening with a slow, but chilling creak.

"Are you okay, miss? You seem...wounded." A guard asked, a displeased look settling on Loraine’s face as she knew had to come up with something to explain this without revealing herself.

’Great...I guess I had no way of avoiding this one.’ She thought.

"Oh this?" Loraine gestured to her damaged clothes, "It was a result of an accident, a performing mage accidentally cast a spell that malfunctioned, and I just happened to be the one that got hit by it’s effects." She said, a light smile on her face.

"But you seem fine," The guard inquired, his tone a bit suspicious.

"That’s because they offered to recover my wounds with a healing potion." Loraine lied, a steady smile adorning her lips as she tried her best not to sound suspicious, using the voice everyone was most familiar with when it came to interacting with her.

’Cmon damn it! Just take the bait already!’ She complained internally, though outside she kept a composed appearance, feigning ignorance.

The guard remained silent for a moment, his eyes studying her for any signs of doubt or falsehood, but no matter how much he tried, he couldn’t feel anything off about her. He didn’t know why, but she almost seemed different somehow, he couldn’t tell what it was but he wasn’t sure he liked it.

"Oh alright, I apologize for taking up your time." The guard said, nodding gently as he allowed Loraine to pass, a relieved Loraine breathing a sigh of relief mentally as she finally stepped into the mansion’s grounds, making her way towards the front doors.

The guard glanced over at his partner, confused by how he was reacting earlier. "Is something wrong? You acted strange earlier." He asked his partner, to which the man beside him sighed, glancing up at the moonlit sky.

"It’s nothing, she just seemed a bit...different, is all." He said.

"Different? Different how?"

"It’s nothing, you’re making this way bigger than it needs to be." He said, trying to end the conversation as he prompted to dismiss it.

His eyes glanced behind him once last time, through the closing gap of the gate as he watched the maid everyone looked down on walk with such grace, and confidence, being surprised that nobody else had managed to notice it.

’Was she always like that?’ He questioned, sighing as he shook his head. He didn’t have time to run theories on a girl nobody gave a damn about, he needed to keep watch and prepare for the arrival of the mansion’s esteemed guests.

Meanwhile Loraine gently pushed open the mansion’s doors, entering the mansion’s main hall as all the eyes of the maid’s present wandered to her, a plethora of emotions ringing out on their faces as they took in Loraine’s disheveled appearance.

’Sigh...great.’
